Yep, I'll be grinding for this one aswell :). Makes Azuresong seem pretty lousy ^^.
With this you gain (vs. Azuresong):
7 stamina
32 spell damage
And you lose:
4 intellect
Seems like a fair trade to me :) This weapon even matches Sharpened Silithid Femur ( https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=21622 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=21622 ). Definantly worth the grind!
With this you gain (vs. Azuresong):

Actually mawx, not really. My mage isn't in a raiding guild (i have a Shaman for that and it's enough x.X) and has the tokens in the bank. All he needs is some PVP honor farming. Surely that is easier than getting into a MC guild that can kill Golemagg, and then it's a 24% drop rate... you might be killing him for a few weeks to get it. And then you'll very likely have to bid against 10+ guildies for it.
I reckon that even with the new honor system 1 week of PVP will get you this one. That seems far easier for me

Many people are considering getting the GM Stave (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=18873 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=18873 ) instead of this, but the stave adds ~300 hp, and ~150 intelligence with 17 spirit as well. However, the mageblade is one-handed and also offers 1 more damage as well as +1% crit. This means that our casters can also acquire a Grand Marshal's Tome of Power (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=23452 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=23452 ) Which adds 17 stamina, and 16 intellect as well as 20 more damage/healing.
In conclusion the stats:
Stave ||||||||| Mageblade/Tome
41 stamina ||||||| 31 stamina
23 intellect ||||||| 24 intellect
17 spirit |||||| 0 spirit
71 damage/healing |||||| 92 damage/healing
0% crit |||||| 1% crit
I would suggest taking the Stave only as an affliction warlock, but even being wairy there if you have nightfall due to the +1% crit that the mageblade yields.

Nice weapon, after the newest patch, in which you can save honor, it is very worth getting unless you have some much better alternative options[Wraith Blade, Claw of Chromaggus, etc] then you should definetly farm for this, even if its only once in a while.

this is a pretty great pick up at level 60 for any caster, since you can use higher level enchants on it.
I'm a pretty bad PvP'er and still average at least 35-40 honor per lower level BG, so you're looking at 5-6 games of WSG/AB for a weapon that can take you from 60-70.
the closest pre-Wrath comparison is https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=31142"">(Item #31142) , which is a random world drop and not as good.
assuming a +63 spellpower enchant and that you're going to be going straight from Outlands to Northrend at level 68 (and not farming any level 70 instances/heroics/raids), the next upgrades to this weapon are:
