Insane Druids

Kill the druids: Taneel Darkwood, Uthil Mooncall, Mavoris Cloudsbreak; then return to Kayneth Stillwind in Forest Song.
  •
Taneel Darkwood slain
  •
Uthil Mooncall slain
  •
Mavoris Cloudsbreak slain

Description

When I struggled with the Forsaken's poisons, I had a vision. I had a vision of the druids in the Dor'danil Barrow Den, poisoned... murdered by the undead! They are now errant ghosts, severed from their bodies and driven mad.

So that the druids' spirits might some day find peace, you must enter the Dor'danil Barrow Den and destroy its once great leaders: Taneel Darkwood, Uthil Mooncall and Mavoris Cloudsbreak.

Do this, then return to me.

Reward

You will receive:
Emil's Brand

Progress

The anguish of the Dor'danil druids still haunt my dreams, <name>. You must destroy their leaders!

Completion

I felt the anguish of the Dor'danil Barrows lessen, and knew you had completed your task.

It was grim work you did, <name>, for the spirits you destroyed were merely victims of the Forsaken's evil. But with their destruction, let us hope the other maddened spirits find peace.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 320 experience (19 20 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Darnassus

You can find these three in the underground area in south east Ashenvale. The entrace is at about 76, 75. Mobs respawn fairly quickly, so try not to move too slow. There are also stealthed mobs and patrolling mobs, so keep an eye out for them.

Once you're in, Taneel is in the room across the first bridge you come across. The mobs before him can be single pulled. He's a priest with a fairly painful Shadow Word: Pain and his Heal heals him pretty much to full health, so just watch for those.

For Mavoris, go down the ramp to the left and take your first left. Follow the tunnel to the bridge that leads into the middle of a cavern with a bridge directly opposite. Cross both those brides and follow the tunnel. Mavoris is at the end. He has two mobs in front of him that pull together. Take them out and then Mavoris is easy.

For Uthil, go back to the room with the two bridges opposite each other and go down the ramp. Take the first tunnel to your right. Follow it, go down the ramp to your left and take the first tunnel to your left. Uthil is the bear in the room at the end of that tunnel and is fairly straight foward to defeat.

This quest ain't so hard, just have to be patient.
You can easily pull mobs 1 at a time, just move slowly and prepare for the unseen, keep you health and mana at max all time so you can strike when needed.

The bosses aren't aggresive, which means you can take out the mobs next to the boss without having to fight the boss at the same time. Then when all is cleared around them you can attack the boss.

Most bosses aren't really hard, the healing one can be tough though, especially when you lack the ability to heal yourself, so take potions to cover for that one.

Excellent description and coords, i did this quest as a lvl 29 shadowpriest, and i was just gonna point out to the fellow priests here, if you do this before you have silence ManaBurn is your friend.

(This is only on the first druid, the others are cake)

Manaburn drains for ~100-200 each on that level and he had something like 1800 mana, shield up spam manaburn, dot up and start wanding.

When he regains enough mana to cast a spell manaburn again, bring a pot to be safe because he is extremely hard if you dont have any interupt abilities.

If you're a Paladin/Hunter and you're still having trouble finding the named mobs, activate Sense/Track Undead. Forsaken are humanoid, Druids are undead.

took me 20 minutes to find all 3, really confusing inside there.
first one, is really hard, renew and heals, outlasted him as a druid but I would think that any other classes would have trouble soloing this at 30-31.

would reccomend teaming up for this quest.

watch out for Taneel Darkwood, your might want to be in a party just to kill him. I was a level 33 warrior, and I had trouble killing him. Once he gets down to about 20% health, he heals himself full. I had to get into a party to kill him. But the others I easily soloed

Fairly easy solo as 31 feral druid; main thing is to take your time going through the maze so you don't run into the bad guys who fade in and out. The mobs can all be pulled individually and I think I ran into only one single mob patrol. Everything else stayed in one spot.

Soloed with a 30 mage, thanks to the tips on this page. One thing that wasn't mentioned: the target druids usually won't attack u until you attack them first -- Taneel and Uthil just stood there until I fired my first spell. Taneel killed me the first time with all his healing, but the next time I just started off with a Fireball then used Scorch (for the short casting time) until I saw him go for his Heal, then I used Counterspell to block it. The other two were pretty easy as well, especially Uthil; since he didn't attack right away I used the Pyroblast first for the mega-damage. The directions here were very helpful; I am using QuestHelper as well. Note that Uthil did NOT show up on the minimap as a target, but the other two did. All of them were marked on the big map, though. I also Hearthstoned out when I was done to avoid having to try to find the exit.

For a shaman, these fights are really easy. Not aggressive (as so many have said) so you're free to mana up, drop totems, prepare.
Uthil is a Druid, he starts in Bear form but will shift out. He'll put a HoT on himself, just Purge it off.
Taneel is a Priest, he's got Shadow Word: Pain, Heal, and Renew. Earth Shock his Heals away, and Purge his Renews away.
Not sure what exactly Mavoris is supposed to be. He does a Lightning cloud and Lightning Bolt. Easiest of the 3 to kill, though.

The only reason I had trouble with this quest is because I kept getting lost. The respawn rate seems to have gone way down (or up, depending on how you look at it) since the first comments...it seemed to take about three minutes like it always does.

Solo'd as a 31 shammy (I dinged while I was in there though) with the use of a lot of mana restoratives and pulling off Gift of the Naaru a lot :)

Just attempting this now at lvl 27 fury warrior. Getting through the trash is really easy, as long as I can keep them 1 at a time. Tried my luck with Taneel, and GOD DAMN is he hard. Smoked me, so I skipped him and found Mavoris who was so easy I was gobsmacked. I charged him, but he didn't get stunned and started casting Lightning Cloud, so once he hit me with it I just moved back, threw in a Battle Shout and Demorilizing Shout, then Retaliation all the way. He didn't even take off half my HP, so If you're a lower level start with this dude. Im heading for Uthil now, so will update in a few minutes =)

*EDIT*

Uthil was just as easy, mind you I dinged while wading through the trash. My tactic was the same as Mavoris cept I didn't use demorilizing shout.

Just tried my luck with Taneel again today. He wasnt hitting too much, but his full heal was a threat so I used intimidating shout when he started casting, he's dead =D

I did this as a lvl 29 feral druid and I found it fairly easy. The cords are 76,75 and its down in a cave with a similar design to the one with all the furblogs in Teldrassil. Their are a lot of stealthed enemies here but if you remain in cat form and prowled you can usually move slow enough for the Forsaken to either unstealth or for them to get to a point where you can see their faint outline. If you take it slow and remember to bandage/eat regularly you can easily get through the cave without any graveyard trips.

As for the bosses they are all nonaggressive so it's not hard to take out any enemies around them, also with druid cat form (And rogues) you can use a back ability to take out a good amount of health. Keep an eye on health and have a stack of potions on you and voila. :)

First post is excellent, the directions are great! I have no sense of direction so until they invent a Gnomish TomTom I will always get lost in caves and tunnels haha. Solo'd this as a level 29 rogue with no problems, despite the druids being level 32 I actually found them easier to kill than the level 29 mobs.

Despite the mention that the quest couldn't be obtained: I sure did this quest recently. However, Uthil Mooncall was lying dead and didn't respawn. I sent in a ticket about this issue and when I logged in a few hours later, he was alive and could complete this quest.

I just obtained and completed this quest in 2013 using the coords mentioned previously. Just wanted to let other players know that the quest is still available and you are able to complete it.
