Mage Summoner

Slay Sarilus Foulborne and bring his head to Sentinel Velene Starstrike in Silverwind Refuge.
Sarilus Foulborne's Head

Description

There's only one undead mage in the Barrens capable of defiling this many water elementals. He's also the only one foolish enough to try. Sarilus Foulborne is probably sitting at the top of Dreadmist Peak, laughing at me.

<name>, you must go into enemy territory and destroy this miscreant. I have had enough of his idiocy and we must show him what happens to those who annoy the Sentinels.

Destroy him and bring me his head. Be wary though, the Horde may be watching for you.

Reward

You will receive:
Light of Elune

Progress

Is it done? Is Sarilus Foulborne dead?

Completion

Now I can see that repugnant smile wiped from his face forever. You have done very well, <name>. Take this, the Light of Elune, drink of it when all seems lost and death is near. It may save you, Goddess willing.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 255 experience (15 30 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Darnassus

Found him on top of Deadmist Peak. Came up the southern face just to the right of the Horde Camp to the top and killed the mage without any intereference from others.

Soloed as a Level 30 Night Elf Druid.

If you start in Astranaar, head east on the main road. Toward WSG. Head down that road toward the entrance to the barrens. As you pass down the road you will come to a gate with Horde guards. At this point just swing over to the left of the gate with the Horde Guards, and you'll see the hole that you can waltz right in.

Getting to the top of the mountain you'll need to make your way up the southwest side. Take a close look, and you'll see what appear to be ridges covered with little patches of grass. You'll shimmy up between those and the lighter gray embankments along the sides of the mountain.

Keep making your way to the top and you'll come across a bunch of lvl 11-13 horde acolytes. Try and pull them one by one and they'll go down quick. Make your way to the top and you'll find the guy in possession of the head you need. Trap him if you can. If not, you're gonna be chasing him all around. His little minions can get you if you don't take him down fast.

When you arrive at the peak, stay to the edge and take out the Bruisers and Acolytes before you take on Foulborne; when he starts to run around, they'll be a pain.

As a Paladin, I suggest throwing down Consecration and keeping your melee strikes focused on Sarilus; even 64 damage is enough to take out his Level 1 Elemental servants.

I did not turn in the quest until I was a level 34 and I only got 500 xp and my reputation with Darnassus only went up 150. Moral: Turn in your quests right away even if it is a long trip.

2550 xp at level 28, easy solo as Sarilus Foulborne is level 25. BTW, the quest reward (Light of Elune) is a single potion, so be sure to save it for when you're in a pinch.

Solo'd this as a 22 Demo Lock. This was not an easy fight - as it wouldn't be seeing as how he's level 25. It is doable though.

Located him at the very peak of the mountain, about where you'll see a green dot/pool on the map. Or if you're using a coord mod, 48,19 as onegirlarmy pointed out.

As Childermass stated before - this guys runs around *alot* ... and if you can't trap him or slow him down, he's bound to run into alot of the other mobs. It's a good idea to clear the top of the platform of Acolytes/etc where he is first, and than the ones right below him (or vise versa).

Another thing, he summons water minions. They're only level one, but he can summon up to 3-4 of them. Also, I may be wrong about this, but I *think* if you don't kill them quick enough - they heal him. Couldn't scroll up far enough in the combat log after to check this.

Was able to do this using a Voidwalker as the tank. Just have him chase him around. Dot up Sarilus as much as possible in the beginning (Curses, Corruption, Immolate, etc...). Have to wand the Water Elementals and cast shadowbolts, searing pain, etc... whenever you can.
It requires alot of multitasking (but as a lock you should be use to that by now), but it is possible - at 9% HP, I just shadowbolted him down.

2550 xp @ level 22, 350 Rep with Darnassus

Goodluck. :)

Another way to get to Ratchet: Go to the gate as described above and try to walk as far in as you can. Horde-guys will follow and kill you but you will find yourself in a graveyard in The Barrens! Revive, and from there it's an easy walk to Ratchet, just keep running south-east. You will encounter only lvl 11 or 12 animals, no problem! Once there don't forget to pay the flightmaster a visit.

Just go to the Barrens and start climbing at 48,13. That way you avoid all other monsters on the mountain.

start climb mountain rib at 48,13
and after go to 48,18;instead of run into and spend time cleaning mods, you walk around under the peak, stop at 48,19

now you must be behind Sarilus Foulborne and very close to him.

then locate him by TAB key. When you aim at him, fire and turn back to run but not too far ,make sure he run after you.
Then you can solo him without cleaning any mobs on the peak.

Sarilus Foulborne sits atop Dreadmist Peak in the Barrens. That is, if you go south from the Mor'shan Rampart, it's the first mountain you'll come to. For those who have co-ordinates, it's 48.22, 19.03. Getting through the Rampart is easy - if you go east a little from the main gate there is a burned section that has no guards. Stick to the road after this. Foulborne himself is a level 25 non-elite, kneeling before a cauldron at the top of the mountain. He's an easy enough fight, even easier if you have any sort of interrupt. Casters may have problems with this, I'm not sure (writing as a level 27 Feral Druid).

The elementals he summons are level 25s as well, and definitely not level 10
as suggested earlier. The mobs around him (Burning Blade xxx) shouldn't aggro, as they are level 10-11.

Hope this helped someone.

Freaking impossible as a warrior. For whatever reason, Charge followed by Hamstring never seems to work. Dude will keep running around, casting and summoning adds. I tried it at 25 and got promptly trounced. Came back at 30, same result. Eff this quest, the reward isn't half worth it. Easy as hell if you're ranged or a caster, though.

Level 26 Rogue, first couple of times I took a whack at him he proved to be annoying.
Just Ambush or Garrote him at first, your pick, and then Gouge him to interrupt his Elemental summon. Then just backstab him. If he gets you with the frostbolt and slows you, Toss a Deadly Axe at him. If you're lucky, the axe will have killed him. :P

Though this saves no time, if you aggro him until he summons his elementals, then leave the fight/lose aggro, the elementals will start to kill the lvl 11-12 that are near him. Once they've cleared the 5 or so up there, they'll despawn after a few minutes. It's easier to clear the area yourself as none of them are within aggro range of the lvl 25 Mage dude.

In any case, as a 24 nelf feral druid, I got my ass handed to me twice by the elementals - they are lvl 25, NOT lvl 1. He's not terribly difficult since he has the elementals rape you. Anyways, I went into cat form, activated Tigers Fury, and spammed Claw until I had enough points for Rip (4 or so). He ran around and slowed me down but I just kept spamming Claw. Was down to about 1/3 when I downed him, I Shadowmelded and promptly left.

My advice would be to focus solely on the mage and either ignore the elementals or have a way to keep them occupied (minion, pet) or try and keep them from moving/attacking. Good luck!

For a non elite, this guy sure does get a lot of minions. I do recommend attempting this with another player, as it can be tough to solo for some classes.

I did this as a 23 draenei Shaman, took me 3 tries.

Tips for the shamans:

~Your searing totem wont be of great use here, as he likes to run for some distance to cast, when he does, place it close to him (nearly next to him so it doesnt target his water elementals) and it will land a few hits,
~Re-summon your totems close to him every time he moves (including stoneclaw if you can),
~If he summons his water elementals, use your stoneclaw totem to attract, and stun them,
~keep using your earth shock to disrupt his spell casting when he is not summoning more elementals (you can tell by the summoning circle under his feet, he is calling more elementals),
~hit him with flame shock whenever you can,
~If you're a Draenei, use your Gift of the Naaru when ur at about half health.

That's all it took for me to take him down. Hope this helps some people.

this must have been nerfed... just took him down as a 26 paladin. he didnt do 1 dmg on me and didnt get the time to summon.
i started out with hand of reconing and judgement, stunned on first summon attempt, laied out a consecration and he started running around, stunned him once with seal of justice, and finaly killed him with exorsism. 0 dmg taken.

This quest seems soooooo much harder than it actually is due to the fact that he spawns up 15 water elemental's all at lvl 25, and to make matters worse he runs off, but i found after dying twice at lvl 31 druid, all you have to do is chase him, the elemental's are really slow so you should have plenty of time to kill him :)

I solo'd this guy, on my first try, as a level 24 shaman and it was super easy, I used one healing spell after I killed him so that his minions wouldn't kill me but I'd say that the whole fight took about a minute.

This place is kinda hard to find for those who don't have Coordinates. I had to run south from Ashenvale, Go until you reach the Forgotten Pools, stay close to the mountains on the left side because if you do you'll see a path lighted with torches as you keep traveling south. Go up the path and you'll see level 10-12 burning blade Orcs, the sky will also turn a musky dark red. You'll see a small cave but he is on top of it.My level 33 warrior easily killed him. He only summoned two elemental's for me. A lot of quest mobs are easy to kill now. I think they are making it easier and easier to level as each new expansion comes out. Blizzard wants players to reach the maximum level before a new expansion is released.
