Fey Dragon Scale

Description

So excited I am!

Three little cages for three little elves! But what shall we do with our lovely tree-hugging friends? Why, let's give them a taste of... what do they call it... forest magic!

I'll need a good mess of Stonetalon sap. From those horrid felines, bring me some twilight whiskers. This calls for plenty of courser eyes, of course -- can never have enough eyes. Oh, and lest we forget, a precious scale from a fey dragon.

Hurry to Stonetalon Peak, <name>, so I can brew some forest magic!

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Voodoo Mantle
Hexed Bracers

Progress

Look at our poor little elf friends. All caged up with no forest to frolic in!

Now were you able to find me some sap? How about the whiskers from the twilight runners? Don't suppose you have that fey dragon scale on you?

And eyes! I'll need so many eyes! You just can't mix up a fierce forest magic brew without a good helping of eyes!

Completion

Oh how happy these little woodland nymphs shall be! We'll make them feel right at home with this special concoction!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:

Get ready for low-drop rate madness. The first two items Jin'Zil asks for have a pretty low drop rate. For the sap, kill the various Sap Beasts in the area. There are some north of the lake as well as a lot more in the northwestern part of Stonetalon Peak. However, the mobs in the Stonetalon Peak area tend to be higher level, including Corrosive Sap Beasts.

For the twilight whiskers, kill the Twilight Runners. These are only found in Stonetalon Peak, in the northeast part of that area. Be careful not to run near the Alliance area while hunting Runners.

The courser eyes drop off any courser in Stonetalon Peak, around the lake, or in the valley connecting the two. Thankfully, the drop rate on eyes is 100% and you get two eyes for every kill.

The fey dragon scale drops off any fey dragon, all found in the Stonetalon Peak area. Drop rate is 100% and you only need one.

Two dangers to be aware of. First, there is an elite night elf that patrols down from The Den in the west-northwest. Be alert when fighting those sap beasts and twilight runners. Second, there is a fey dragon that patrols the perimeter of Stonetalon Peak. This mob is level 27, making it the highest level creature next to the aforementioned night elf and the guys in the Alliance outpost. Since this quest is easily done at level 23-24, the level 27 fey dragon can likely kick your butt. Stay aware.

You can easily double this quest up with Cenarius' Legacy, as the mobs needed for that quest are in the same area.

As far as the twilight runners go, you don't want to look in the northeast, all of them are all huddled together in the northwest part of stonetalon peak.

Worst drop rate is from the twilight runners which seems to be around 25%. The others items are easy to get. Twilight runners are near the Stonetalon Den BUT be careful, there is an elite roaming there, i got own by her, it's a level 30ish druid npc that attack in cat form. Her name is Sentinel Amarassan.

The most logical quest in the game; two eyes drop every time.

I got all the items needed on Stonetalon Peak, on the north of Stonetalon Mountains. You'll find a lot of mobs that drop the eyes before you reach the peak. The droprate on the whiskers and the saps is kinda low, so prepare yourself for some killing!

Jin'zil does not give another quest after this one. Don't be confused after you turn it in and he starts RPing.

Confirm 32,10 for the cats, loads there with a reasonable drop rate for the whiskers.

And he just kills the elves... Seems odd you can't just stab them through the bars of the cage and claim the quest done rather than wandering about slaughtering arbitary critters.

I found the drop rate for the saps most annoying; but I found the best way to get everything is to work your way around the temple thing in the middle of the clearing. Just kill everything you see, except for the alliance guys by the moonpool and in the house(which you definitely want to avoid), and keep and eye out for https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4017 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4017 which will kick your butt if you're not careful. I was a 23 druid, and I had problems with it even.

A 'lock and I got all the stuff for the quest in around an hour and a half; it took longer because the sap's drop rate was suck.

I recommend NOT doing this quest as it's time consuming and probably not worth your time. Most efficient to just let it be and plow through the rest of the questlines in Stonetalon Mountains.

This is due to terrible droprates from the various mobs you have to kill to finish the quest. This is my conclusion after had levelled up several characters in this area through the years. Better do most other quests and just let this one be.

The only reason you'd wanna do this quest is if you need https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6664 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6664 which is nice since cloth shoulder armor can be a hassle obtaining through the early part of game. Also you can discuss whether it's worth lots of time for 2100 experience and 250 rep with the trolls.

the Corrosive Sap Beasts DO NOT DROP THE SAP! dont make the same mistake I did. I figured they were all the same some were just a lil higher lvl ....Ya right after killing 10 or so corrosive I realised they werent gunna drop em.
But the drop rate on the sap beasts sux badly your lucky to get 1 every 3 kills or so. The rest were easy enough to get when i wasnt after the lvl 27 rare elite that was just too tempting for me not to kill lol.
Good Luck!

I managed to get all the items needed to complete the quest; didn't even see the elite running around. Did this on my lvl 25 mage. Worst part was the tree guardians; they snuck up on me twice.
Too, it's a pain in the hind-end relocating Jin'Zil to turn in the quest. I've yet to do that; hopefully today.

Don't pass it by, it gives precious Darkspear Troll reputation, 250.

I'd suggest heading west (left) after entering the vale. The https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4020 sap beasts, https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4019 coursers and a https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4017 fey dragon are all right there. Continute around the circle in a northerly direction and eventually you'll run into the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4067 cats. Be aware of an https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=5916 elite rare druid that pats around there. She'll start off wrath'ing you and end up in cat from and, to make it just that much more fun of a battle, run away at low health.
