Description

Travelers keep asking me about the Stonetalon Mountains. It seems to be a popular place for adventure--it doesn't matter if you're seeking wyvern, elementals, or you have business with the Venture Co.

Within the Charred Vale, deep in Stonetalon, there used to be a species of basilisks whose scales, when ground to dust, made a wonderful reagent for some spells I've created.

If those basilisks still live, I would love to have a few of their scales.

Take your time, it is no rush, but I can pay well.

loc 33.73... around Charred Vale.
Very poor drop rate, and a very frustrating quest.

Drops from all types of Basilisks... but drops are rare.

Just did this quest 04/25/2007 drops was about 1 in 3 and i did it in shimmering flats along with https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1175 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1175 youll have it done in no time.

I also found some in Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles. Kill the ""SaltStone Basilisk"". Average level is about 30. Drop rate is very good here. Location: 73. 57.

Very low drop rate still. Did it with another ch. Took over an hour going back and forth waiting for respawns.

I don't recommend trying to complete this quest for people that can't use the quest reward, unless you're trying to level. Very low drop rate, very tedious.

You can combine this quest with the basilisk killing quest in Thousand Needles. I finished off both quests in about 20 minutes.

Since this wand is attainable at level 17, it is a better twink wand than the more common https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=11288 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=11288. At least if you plan on doing damage with your wand. If you want stats, look elsewhere.

Frankly this quest sucks eggs. Just out of curiousity I decided to use the new timer to see how long it took me to gather 3 of the embers when I was after only them, having finished the other three quests I had in CV. It took me 18 minutes and 8 seconds to get three of them when I was targeting the mobs that dropped them. Drop rate stinks!

Terrible quest - really time consuming - but I guess... XP is XP.

I worked out a slow, yet effective method of picking these up in the end which although time consuming - kept me sane (just).

Starting from the signpost area in Stonetalon at 45, 41 and then working my down the path in Charred Vale up to point 34, 59 - I was able to pick up a scale per run (there and back). Plenty of Basilisks spawn while you're en-route but the drop rate is nasty. About 1 in 8 or 9 for me.

Don't bother going down into the Vale itself to look for these losers... you'll spend all your time fending off those screeching bitches with wings.

Dropped on my 2nd, 3rd ( at 33, 45 ), 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, .. you get the idea.

started at 43, 40 . Didn't have to go far in at all.

Although the drop rate is very low the very very low might i add..... the respawn rate seems to be very quick. Also just another hint if you read the quest properly it states and i quote "" If the basiliks are still alive"" so obviously there wouldnt have been many to start off with :P

As of the current patch. The drop rate seems to have been increased. I managed to collect all 8 in one run around in the Charred Vale without waiting for respawns.
