The Spirits of Southwind

Free the spirits of 8 Tortured Druids and 8 Tortured Sentinels in Southwind Village, and then return to Layo Starstrike at the Valor's Rest graveyard of Silithus.
  •
Tortured Druid slain (8)
  •
Tortured Sentinel slain (8)

Description

To our southwest lies a tragic site - the ruins of Southwind Village. This is where our work should begin, <name>.

From what we've learned, this village was once a night elf base of operations for Silithus. It's long since overrun by the silithid hives that infest the wastes. I can only imagine the horror of the village's initial sundering...

The tortured spirits of fallen druids and sentinels wander the ruins aimlessly. Explore this locale, freeing the souls of these wretched beings as needed.

Progress

Alliance or Horde, it doesn't matter - no being deserves to be trapped on this world as a tortured spirit. The freeing of these souls will make things right, <name>.

Completion

I had thought that maybe the huge swirling hive near the ruins of the village had played a part in its demise. It would seem that your work has proven this to be correct; the proximity of the hive poses a threat to any future work we may do here.

I thank you for your benevolence in freeing the souls of the fallen; such work is never easy, I know. When you're ready, however, I'd like to ask for your assistance once more...

This quest has been nerfed, and thankfully so. It used to be that every single mob was guaranteed to spawn a bug, usually multiple bugs, and as many as three from what I can remember. I just did this with my most recent toon, and half of the mobs never even spawned a bug. I didn't complain!

Heheh what anyone failed to mention is that the both the druids and the sentinals have fast respawn rates. I died and everything was respawned by the time i ran back.

One of my least favorite quests ever.
I kept on aggroing 2 at a time and, with my bad luck, both would spawn a bug. Being a lvl 55 dealing with 2 lvl 56's and then 2 lvl 58's was hard... I couldnt even run from the bugs due to respawns blocking my path :*(

/me reccomends doing this at a high level

Both Tortured Druid's and Tortured Sentinels can spawn http://aowow.org/https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=13136 Hive'Ashi Drone's that are levels 56-58. My bug spawn was about 75%. I would recommend doing this quest at at least level 55 because of the bugs spawning after you killed the tortured guys, the bugs attacks will kill you off in about 10 seconds unless your class has some way of dealing with the threat (my rogue used ""Sprint"" and ""Vanish"" for it).

Hope this helps!

just did this. easy as a 57 feral druid, but a royal PITA. of the 16 i killed, 12 spawned the bugs, so 75%.

I soloed this quest as a level 54 Hunter.
This is how i did it:

As mentioned above, the respawn rate is very fast. At both sides of the entrance, there are some Tortured Druids and some Tortured Senitinels. I started on the right side of the entrance, killing one of the spirits. When the Hive Drone spawned, I let my pet take the first hit. In that way, the wasp will aggro on my pet, not me. Then I looted the corpse and ran away until i lost sight of my pet. (No pet-picture on the upper left part on my monitor) After a little ""healing-rest"", I called my pet and went to the left side of the entrance. On the right side, I could still see the Wasp fly around, so I did not want to go over there incase I would aggro it again. Anyway; killing a druid on the right side, made another Hive Drone spawn. I let the pet take care of it while I ran down the road again. Then I rested and called my pet. Scince the respawn rate on these spirits are so fast, you can finish this quest without actually going into the center. Neat?! :)
The Hive Drones die out automatically after 5-8 min.

NB: Running back and forth like this, will ALWAYS spawn a wasp. I guess this is because you never kill any of them.

PS: Use Viper Sting on the druids twice while the pet is active. In this way, the druids are more likely not to heal themselvs. Remeber; The Viper Sting drains mana ;)

Soloed as a 54 DPS warrior and it was a pain in the ass. I died five times trying to finish this quest up. Wait until you're about 55 or 56 to take this one on.

I just kept running after the bugs spawned and waited for them to die then collected loot. Bugs spawned 9 out of 10 times for me.

If you are not up to at least 2 lvl's above your target then you should lvl up first as every target you hit can call out a secondary target.

I am a blood elf and after turning in this quest I couldn't take the next one .
It wrote "" This quest is unavaible to your race "" or something like that .

Is there anyone with the same problem ?

Completed quest as a lvl 56 combat rogue, 13 out of 16 spawned a drone, the drone for me was always lvl 58. Completed it again with my lvl 70 mage for fun 14 out of 16 spawned a drone. That is a 84% spawn rate. So if you are starting the quest expect every mob to spawn a drone. Heal up after EVERY fight.
