i did it at just before going onto the docks, you you can still see the zzz for the rested xp indicator. so, while fishing, why not build up your time on the blue bars lol would submit screenshot but it's temporarily disabled? *sigh* you'll just have to try it out while in Auberdine. just stand on the corner of the inn's platform, right where it joins up with the dock to the boats.

What a grind! I don't think high fishing has any effect on the catch rate. I started with Fishing 204 and ended with 213. Used Gubber's lure, too, and it still took about 12 minutes and 49 casts, or just over 1 in 6 for Gaffer Jacks, spread pretty evenly throughout the entire time. Caught 17 Rainbow Albacore, 16 Darkshore Grouper, 12 Slitherskin Mackerel and 4 Oily Blackmouth. Bring a good book.

It says that the catch rate is only 5%, but I got them all in 15 minutes, about 30 casts. It's much easier than you may think.

I started this quest with the guffer blump family fishing pole and 3baubles i finished in about 13mins starting at 36 fishing and ending at 68fishing also getting the [25fish] achievment and the [50fish] achievement.. good fishing xp but a waste of time for XP

This quest took me about 10 minutes. I just stood right underneath the dock behind the inn, staying rested. When i started, my fishing was at 38, and when i finished, my fishing was at 74. I was using a shiny bauble and got a point for EACH CAST. I caught several fish, including rainbow fin albacore, darkshore grouper, oily blackmouth, and slitherskin mackaral. I even caught a dented crate once, containing two coarse blasting powder. The first 3 gaffer jacks came right in a row, after about 10 useless casts. Then several more uneventful casts, followed by 3 more jacks in a row, then about 5 more casts, then my 7th jack. The 8th one took about 15 casts to get. I did notice that claims from other posts about having a better chance once fishing is about 50 does seem to be true. I didn't even catch my first jack until i was almost 50.

Stand right beside the quest giver 36,44. Took me 83 cast and i had all the gaffer jacks that i needed and all the grouper for the quest the family and the fishing pole.

On average, every fifth cast I got a gaffer jack. Though I do have 446 fishing, I don't know if that really matters anymore. I fished where Gubber Blump is. According to the quest description, you could probably fish anywhere. :)

I fished with a skill of 485 near Gubber. It took 38 casts.

I managed to get mine in under 10 minutes at 34.0 and 42.4

4 boards and seperating those boards are lines ... 3 lines ... you want
to go to the middle line ... close to the edge ... 34.0 and 42.4

I placed myself next to the fat dwarf, threw the lure out 8 times, and got 8 fish + 8 gaffer jacks. With maxed fishing skill for the zone, it would seem like it is a 100% drop rate.

All I did was stand on the log next to Gubber Blump. Got all 8 on the first 8 tries.

You may know that i did this quest staying at 34,8 42,8 or you can simply understand 34,42 and throw the fishing line at the east and at any cast i threw i caught a gaffer jack. Quite easy quest.
I must remind that i had 44 fishing when i started it.

Realized this quest just after I turned in https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1141"">(Quest #1141) and, new fishing pole in hand and at fishing level 70, started casting off the dock near Blump.

Got all eight Gaffer Jacks in eight casts, as well as 2 Darkshore Grouper, 3 Oily Blackmouths, and 3 Raw Slitherskin Mackerals.

Very easy quest.

I can confirm, droprate has been increased to 100%, easy quest.

For those of you who are big on achievements and haven't taken the time to do the 1000 Fish achievement and whom haven't done this quest (a small number of people, but still...), every time you fish up a gaffer jack + whatever else (fish, junk, etc), it will count as 2 items on the achievement counter, thus taking half as much time to 1000 as it would have.

Did this on my NE priest, lv 12, and i have to say, incredibly easy, out of 9 fish attempts, i got the gaffer jacks i needed. Fishing=Skill lv 58, went to 66, used the Strong Fishing pole, +5 Fishing skill there, and then i used the +25 bauble, giving me a +30 bonus. Overall, incredibly easy quest, and incredibly easy xp. One more comment, took less than 30 seconds.

i fished right by Gubber Bump. Caught them in the first 25 trys :)

According to Fishing Buddy, I had a 50% drop rate for these.

I noticed that every time I caught an actual fish or white item I also got a Gaffer Jack. So I guess if you catch a white item or fish, there is a good chance you will get a Gaffer Jack.

First of all, wow, seriously? You guys are having trouble with this? I did this quest for the first time not long ago (like, an hour or two ago), and I got a Gaffer Jack every single time I fished for one, all eight times. I thought it was just normal, that it was 100% you got one each time. I then checked this page, and saw people spent ages getting them.

For the quest itself, I just went to the lake nearby and started fishing. Took about six or seven minutes, and I got all eight Gaffer Jacks in the first eight attempts, so no real problems should occur. Just make sure you clear your fishing spot of enemies, which include mainly of Pigmy Tide Crawlers, although, these are not hostile until you make the first move.

Fun fact, A Gaffer refers to an artist or more specifically a Soft glassblower, in which Jacks is a main tool.
