Ironband's Compound

Bring a load of Umbral Ore to Tormus Deepforge in Ironforge.
Umbral Ore

Description

My mentor, Sturgy Ironband, had a compound south of Helm's Bed Lake in eastern Dun Morogh. There he taught blacksmithing and he was the best.

But one day, one of his students brought him a load of strange ore. Master Ironband called it umbral ore and was eager to work with it, but soon after it arrived... a band of Dark Iron dwarves attacked his compound. They killed everyone!

Enter Ironband's compound, <name>, and avenge my master's death. And bring me the load of umbral ore that caused it.

Progress

Have you entered Ironband's Compound? Did you find the umbral ore?

Completion

You found it! Well done!

I hope you killed a host of Dark Iron dwarves while searching. I fear that Ironband's compound won't be the last place we see them.

But thank you for the ore, <name>. I'm eager to work it and find its properties.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 325 experience (3 90 at max. level)

Just as the quest details, Ironband's Compound is just southwest of Helm's Bed Lake, which is on the Eastern side of Dun Morogh.

When you approach the compound, you'll notice a building on the south side. this is where the Umbral Ore is located. Dark Iron Spies are spaced wide enough apart that you can pull each one individually.

After making your way inside of the building, you'll find Captain Beld located in the basement. He is standing right next to a chest that contains the Umbral Ore. Beware, as soon as he sees you, he will charge you, so any rush attacks will have to be quick. Once Captain Beld is killed, simply open the chest and retreive the ore.

For those of you with Cosmos or Titan Panel add-ons, the coordinates are 77,62 for the chest.

Note: The quest ""The Public Servant"" pairs will with this quest, since Rockjaw Bonesnappers are also found in front of the compound. (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=433 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=433)

Finishing this quest will give you - Grey Iron Weapons https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1682 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1682  which gives you a decent choice for low level warrior weapons

Be careful leading up to the compound if you aren't a high level- the rockjaw bonesnappers are pretty dense leading up to it.

First of all, this quest is for level ten and above only. It follows the Vejrek quest- right after thats finished, go to the Great Forge in Ironforge. Right in the middle of the forge is the trusty yellow question mark- and thats how Ironbands compound quest gets started.

After receiving the quest, prepare for a long walk and then a lot of little battles. If able, equip a gun or bow with lots of ammo.

Now, leave Irongforge. Follow the path down until youre back in regular Dun Morogh. When the path reaches the bottom of the hill, take a left onto the path. Then take your first available right. Then STAY ON THE PATH for a very long walk. Youll get to a road sign that points to Gol Bolar Quarry. This is when you stray off the path- go towards GolBolar Quarry but stay on the outskirts of it. If you go around it, towards the mountains, youll reach Iraonbands Compound, directly in between Helms Bed Lake and Gol-Bolar Quarry.

Be careful on your approach- there are a ton Rockjaw Ambushers. Go slow and pick them off one by one. Lucky for you, most of the Ambushers can be looted for coins (I got decently rich off this quest, for a bit anyway). Once past them, youll get to the Dark Iron Spys. Be careful because those will gang up on you if they get the chance- if youre fighting two at once, try using Thunder Clap, which will deal damage to both enemies at the same time.

Once in the house, there are two Dark Iron Spys. After finishing them off, go down the stairs to the basement, where youll fight the big guy. He goes down pretty easy. In the corner of the basement there should be a shimmering box- open it up for your reward.

Once the umbral ore is obtained, high tail it back to the Great Forge. There, youll receive the weapon of your choice. Good job!

Does not count for Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms. (Should be obvious since it doesn't have a zone flag.)

Just completed this quest today on an alt -- not sure why it is marked obsolete.

It seems that most special class specific quests, unrelated to starting areas and dungeons, are obsolete. Warrior class is an exception, maybe Blizzard forgot to remove them...

For instance, I couldn't get ""Snatch and Grab"" rogue quest, and later rogue quest ""Make Contact with SI:7"" is bugged, and I couldn't turn it in...

Warriors can indeed still acquire, complete and turn in this quest, and it's follow up https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1682/grey-iron-weapons Grey Iron Weapons, which awards one of four Warrior only weapons. (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6978 Umbral Axe, https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6981 Umbral Dagger, https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6982 Umbral Mace, and https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6984 Umbral Sword)

If you log out before completing the quest, however, it disappears from your quest log, and you will have to pick it up again.

The Draenei Warrior quest Strength of One is also still acquirable. It still teaches Taunt, Sunder Armor and Defensive Stance (even though the level requirement for those spells changed with Cata). You will be able to place all of them on your action bar from your spellbook and use them. If you are of insufficient level to be able to learn any of those spells, they will be removed from your spell book upon log out
