Ulag the Cleaver

Kill Ulag the Cleaver, then speak with Deathguard Dillinger.
  •
Ulag the Cleaver slain

Description

When the Scourge swept through Tirisfal Glades, we captured one to study. He had a free mind, and called himself Ulag the Cleaver. But, although his will was free, he was still enthralled by the Lich King.

We hoped to find a way to break the king's control over Ulag, but we failed. Now, finally, it is time to free him.

Free him, and kill him.

Activate the skull stone trigger near the mausoleum to the north. This will lift the magical seal that binds him.

Then... be ready, <name>.

Reward

The following spell will be cast on you:
Path of Defense

Progress

Your task is yet undone, <name>. It is not wise for a <class> to show fear...

Completion

Well done, <name>. Ulag was no minor agent of the Scourge. You have shown the Deathguards, and hence the Dark Lady, that you are a <class> of skill and resolve, and are worthy of further instruction.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 850 experience (5 10 at max. level)

To complete this quest you first need to go up to the graveyard just north of https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1496 Deathguard Dillinger. There you will find a mausoleum and the skull stone trigger is just next to the road on the left side, leading to the mausoleum.
When the skull stone trigger has been activated https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=6390 Ulag the Cleaver will open the mausoleum doors and come out. Slay https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=6390 Ulag the Cleaver and then return to https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1496 Deathguard Dillinger to complete the quest.
Once completed you will gain https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=71 Defensive stance, https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=7386 Sunder Armor (Rank 1) and https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=355 Taunt.

I've tried to kill this guy three times and haven't been able to do it because a level 65 elite guard keep running up and one shotting him before I can do enough damage to get credit for the kill. The guard patrols in front of the mausoleum and never goes far enough away for me to be able to kill Ulag without him running in.

Too right Emiline! What's up Blizzard - this quest now seems to be undoable! Although... on the 4th try, the guard stayed away for long enuff for me to credit for the kill - yay!

I had the same problem, but after looking around on the internet I found a couple of options to get to Ulag without the guard coming to 'help' you.

First: you can run right up to the doors and get inside with Ulag when they open, trying to shut the guard out. That hasn't worked for me yet.

Second: You can open the doors yourself, so after activating the stone key, run op to the doors, open them and then run left down a path through the graveyard. Ulag will follow, but the guard will eventually fall back. Haven't tried it yet though.

Third: Activate the stone key and wait there. Ulag will come running for you and the guard will stop giving chase, so you can get to Ulag undisturbed. Again, haven't tried it yet.

Hope these will help though, I'm going to try the second and third method tonight, see what happens.

Edit:

I tried the third method just now and that worked for me. You just have to take one step forward to make Ulag come at you, but after that he's fairly easy to defeat. Never once saw the guard.

I've been trying to do the same thing! He's impossible to kill inside &amp; outside with that guard wondering around. I've done this now 8 times..geez hope I can finally get Ulag out enough to defeat him without the guard interrupting!

Okay the best method I used was to make a group..one of us lured him out while the others attacked. Worked great!

I had the same issue with the elite Deathguard. Trying to draw Ulag away from the 65 elite while he was still pathing right in front of the tomb was impossible, and even when I successfully trapped myself inside the closed tomb, the Deathguard killed Ulag through the door and I still got no credit.

What finally worked for me was to wait about five minutes and the guard finally despawned. When he did, I hit the keystone and headed to the left, towards the path where the apothecary NPC is pathing. Ulag came out of the crypt and down the few stairs and did nothing. I then could charge in and fight him as normal right at the foot of the stairs, no Deathguard spawned at all.

As an 80 Troll warrior who just transferred from alliance, I saw a quest in brill I could do, and it was this one, and for it I got as much as an 80 daily, it seems it scales with level, But it may have been a bug.

If anyone else can confirm this, It might make it worth waiting till 80 to do the other versions of the quest.

It is probably because I got Transferred and something Glitched.

It gave me 13g and and 23 Silver.

I just did this quest and had no trouble with any guard killing him before I could. The only little blip was when the doors shut on him which removed him from my LoS. All I had to do was stop and re-open them. =/

This quest is currently bugged in that it still gives you taunt and sunder armor, but you're not supposed to get them through a quest anymore, so you get them before you're actually supposed to have them. It will give them to you (place them on your bars), but if you look in the spellbook they're greyed out, and they become available through the trainer at later levels.
