Chest of Containment Coffers
Cantation of Manifestation

Description

A disturbance has been reported at the Blue Recluse tavern in the Mage Quarter. Strange, invisible creatures now wander the tavern, and I fear a mana rift has formed there.

I want you to investigate the tavern and capture those creatures. Use the cantation of manifestation in the tavern to make the creatures visible, subdue them then use a containment coffer to capture them. When you have enough, return to me with your filled coffers, your empty coffers and the cantation.

Progress

Have you captured the creatures, <name>? They must be studied in order to determine the reason behind their arrival.

Completion

Very well done! I will study these creatures and, with diligence and luck, determine how they slipped into our world.

Your value to the society of mages grows, <name>.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 115 experience (6 90 at max. level)

ok... if you stay on the main floor and use the cantation you're going to get Pwned. Deal with the first one alone.

Go to the basement and use the cantation which will only summon one. once you've done this, kill the sucker, use your chest of containment coffers and finally click on the filled containment coffer.

Go to the main floor and you should be able to handle the two remaining.

I went to the basement, and just 1 summoned, which was easy to kill and contain. Then I went to the main floor and summoned and 3 showed up, promptly kicking my butt. I rezzed and came back, went to the basement and summoned 1 again - no problem, got it. Then I went up on the top floor and tried summoning. Three showed up again! So, I ran and at least didn't die. Then I got the brilliant idea to log out and log back in. Went to the basement and just 1 summoned.

So, I think you can go to the basement, get 1, log out and back in, and go to the basement and get 1 again. Much easier to handle as a mage than having 3 on you at once.

spawn and kill one in the basement.

spawn and kill one upstairs, i went all the way into the farthest corner from the stairs just to make sure i didn't spawn any additional Rifts.

for the third Rift i went into the kitchen (with the fireplace and Connor Rivers Apprentice Chef in it). i used the Cantation next to the fireplace to spawn the Rift, and only one came out.

lvl 16 when i did it. do not use the Cantation in the main area as you will get rushed by 3 Rifts.

found out how to do this with single rift spawns every time....

use the cantantion in the basement, kill the spawn and trap him

go to the kitchen and stand in the fireplace use the cantantion again kill the spawn and trap him.

and finally go into the main room, and go under the stairs, use the cantantion again then kill the spawn and trap him,

very easy as a 16 mage

This comment may seem redundant, but I just wanted to clear up and verify the information from previous comments. I just followed these steps today (Aug 26, 2007). When I read all of the comments here, I got a little confused. Hopefully this will help. If not, feel free to rate it down.

Basically, as soon as you take the quest, grab one of the lunchbox-looking things (Chest of Containment Coffers) and one of the scrolls (Cantation of Manifestation) from the table next to Jennea Cannon.

Head to the Blue Recluse (approximately at 38,84). If you're entering the Mage Quarter from the Trade District and you take the southern path inside the quarter after the tunnel, it should be the first building on your left. But, you'll probably be heading there from the Mage's Tower, so as soon as you get outside, jump off the right side and you should see the building.

Then, follow the advice of adders666 (six posts above this one). I followed his instructions and it worked perfectly. To reiterate, summon the first one in the basement, then go up the stairs and summon from within the fireplace, then go into the main room and go under one of the staircases to summon. For each summon, once you've stunned the creature, use the Chest of Containment Coffers. This will throw a coffer onto the ground and the creature will become trapped in it. Pick up the coffer once it's filled. Do this for each creature. Once you have three of them, head back to Jennea.

Tried this quest a few times just summoning in the main room, quickly learned that was a mistake. So, I went down to the basement, summoned in the far back of the room, killed and contained with no problem. Went to kitchen stairs, summoned at the top of the stairs so as to not accidently spawn any in the main room (made that mistake too, summoning in the middle of the room), killed and contained again no problem. Went to the top floor, summoned near the back wall, killed again and contained. Once you figure out where to spawn like I did, this quest is actually pretty easy. Did at Level 16 with minimal effort after planning my summons better.

If you are having trouble, follow the instructions given by jiyongle, 2 comments above this one... but in addition:

Once inside the Blue Recluse, do the following to make things a little easier (I did this solo on a level 15 mage with the few quest greens I had received).
  1. Go to the very bottom basement level
  2. Move to the wall farthest from the stairs so anything you aggro from above won't make it to the stairs
  3. Use your scroll
  4. Kill the rift with a combination of your favorite damage spell and Frost Nova
  5. Use the coffer on the stunned rift
  6. Pick up the filled coffer
  7. Now, rather than heading back upstairs, use your scroll again right there
  8. Rinse and repeat until you have your other two
  9. Hang out for 2-3 minutes after your last rift, and the upstairs will despawn so you can exit safely.
I found this quicker than moving around the place.

Here are more accurate coordinates to the doorway of the Tavern: 39.9, 85.3

This was frustrating. I tried everything that was 'easy' and it didn't work. After each death and subsequent run from the 'closest' graveyard, I went back to the basement every time for a solo engagement.

Hope this helps. (Probably not)

Went to the basement, found 1, contained him. Went into the kitchen, found 2, contained them. This was a easy quest once I realized to start at the bottom and eliminate 1 in order to handle the other two.

its really not as hard as everyone makes out... if you pull more than one, frost nova them in place, get to a distance where they cant hit , but your arcane explosoin will still effect them, and spam it, but try and just take them one at a time, it is easier that way

What bad quest design. That sawowhead:1,id:

You use the http://wotlk.aowow.org/https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=7308 Cantation of Manifestation to get the apparitions to appear, for anyone who is lost about how to actually spawn them.

Spawning anywhere on the base floor will get you 3 spawns. Whether you use the cantation in the kitchen or the main room.

The first time I used the Cantation in the basement a level 75 Stormwind guard spawned but didn't help me fight. There was only one to fight though.

Logging out and back in again no longer works

Strategy

I summoned the one in the basement. then killed him and got the quest item. I then spawned the 3 on the top floor, and ran out of the tavern and waited to be out of combat.

I then went back to the basement and re-summoned the single apparition.

Rinse and Repeat.

It is not that easy. I was level 19 and semi twinked as frost. a few well placed frost nova wont keep all 3 off. I suggest continuously killing the one in the basement.

I used the green post of adders666's to do this quest, but got caught at the third cantation. Dranei lvl 16 Frost spec.

The first one in the basement, and the second one in the kitchen worked great. But going to the main floor under the stairs, I got three of the things on me. I managed to kill one before I died, but when I got back and rezzed, there was nothing to trap. I went back down to the basement, and only one spawned when I tried the cantation. Maybe it's just better to stay off the main floor and do all in cantations in the basement?

Yes, a guard also spawned at all four cantations and yet didn't help a bit in each fight. That was..., strange.

There is 1 in the basement, one in the kitchen (stand in fireplace) and then finally stand under stairs or in main room (main room has 2 and stairs there is only 1) and kill of the last 1 or 2 of them and trap them. after you cast the incantation a friend can help you kill them if needed.

All the co-ords given above - e.g. 39 83 - are utterly wrong. It's surprising every comment I read directs one to the wrong place if you follow their co-ords. What could account for this?

Anyway - the correct co-ords for the entrance to The Blue Recluse are: Stormwind City: Mage Quarter (50, 90)

By 3Davideo on 08/19/2009 (Patch 3.1.3)
I'm surprised nobody knew this, but try it...

You do NOT have to use the incantation to make the spawns appear! AOE spells like Frost Nova and Arcane Explosion will aggro any that are in range-which is usually one. If you stand against the inside of the wall against the door you can AOE and get the one that wanders there, without aggroing the other 2. Then you can repeat upstairs, and by the bar.

its a Ghostbusters refrence as previous posters commented, basicly your scroll you get is your ""PKE Goggles and meter"" the containment coffers being your ""Traps"" your abilities your ""Proton Beam"".

Ray: ""Don't look directly at the trap""
Egon: ""I looked at the trap Ray!""

Venkman: ""We came we saw we kicked its @$$!""

Egon: ""Oh and don't cross the streams""
Venkman: ""Why?""
Egon: ""I'd be bad.""
Venkman: ""I'm fuzzy on the whole good bad thing what do you mean by bad?""
Egon: ""Well imagine the whole world stoping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.""
Ray: ""Total potonic reversal.""
Venkman: ""That would be bad, ok important safty tip, thanks Egon.""

All right here is how I did this - it seems to be a matter of trial and error, just don't try to do this in the main room.

- First, I did the spawn in the basement.
- Next I went up to the kitchen and stood near the entrance to the main room and used the incantation. One rift spawn appeared. I contained it.
- Next I tried logging out and going back down to the basement. No dice.
- But then, I went back up to the kitchen and stood by the fireplace and used the incantation again. One more spawned and I got it.

It may depend on where you stand in certain places, but I think if you stand far to either edge of the kitchen you can get away with spawning only one at a time.

So- kinda on accident I found this out. If you have a DK with you, or can con one into helping you for a minute- this is how to do it easy cheesy.

Have the DK cast death and decay. They all appear, and he tanks them. Within seconds, DnD has killed all three, and you collect your prizes.

gogogogog.

You Win.

I did it with a lvl 65 DK alt on a second machine, and my mage.

  1. Stand in corridor, near the entrance.
  2. Start AOE in front of you.
  3. You will damage hidden mob and it will appears.
