Morganth

Defeat Morganth.

Bring his Pendant of Shadow to Theocritus at the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest.
Pendant of Shadow

Description

After much observation, I have discovered Morganth's plans.

He searches for the Scythe of Elune...and he may have found it! If he has, then the Redridge Mountains, and the kingdom of Stormwind, will soon feel his dark might.

I am not prepared to pit myself against Morganth, but I fear he must be dealt with now. So you must enter the Tower of Ilgalar and face Morganth.

Defeat him, and bring me his Pendant of Shadow. Do this, and the kingdom will owe you much.

Reward

You will receive:
Rose Mantle

Progress

Hurry, <name>, before my fears of Morganth spreading his power are made real!

Completion

You have done well, <name>. In defeating the warlock Morganth, Stormwind is saved from a grave peril.

I offer you this reward most humbly. And I would bid you peace, if these were peaceful times.

But instead, I will bid you luck with your trials, and victory in the conflicts ahead.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 275 experience (16 50 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Stormwind

Almost impossible to get a group for this one to do it at the proper level given the rarity of the glowing pendant drop and the lack of incentive to grind Shadowhide gnolls. He's got a succubus, a caster, and a melee fighter with him. Bring a high-level friend.

First of all, you don't have to get the Glowing Pendant to start the questline. You can start it at the Tower of Azora before hand.

Secondly, he also summons a level 30 Abomination (Undead). The summon has a cast time I noticed but I am not sure if it's interruptable or not. When I did it most recently, it was him, a succubus, and 2 Shadow Caster Gnolls.

We 2 manned him... Druid and Shaman. I (druid) tanked while the shaman healed, dropped totems, and auto-attacked my target.

This Quest actually begins at Theocritus at the tower of Azora, it is available from him after completing ""Looking Further"" https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=248 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=248

If you have difficulty soloing the quest the ""real"" way, you can easily solo it using 2 deaths &amp; corpse runs:
  1. Run into the tower, die.
  2. Run back, ress on the safe spot on the top floor. (There are 3 packs on the top floor, but you can safely spawn out of aggro range from all of them.)
  3. Kill Morganth. Ignore the adds, just kill him. Use cooldowns, burn your whole mana bar, whatever, just get him dead before his adds kill you. Loot the pendant, then die.
  4. You can now run back, ress on the top floor, and hearth out. Or, you can spirit ress and run west into Elwynn to turn the quest in.

This is a classical run-die-run-die-run Blizzard quest (damn sadists). If you know beforehand you can not handle 3 mobs of around level 25, then save yourself some time and proceed about it as intended (running and dieing), it will be faster in the end.

Hard even on 30, almost died but a 70 came from nowhere and saved me.

Had 20 health at the time.

Thank you lvl 70 :)

Solo'd on lvl 25 with a paladin. Burned him down as fast as possible and actually got away! Lifeblood is a big plus here, ignore the adds and go mad on him, loot and run/die.

This quest is similar to https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1143 The Tower of Athalaxx in Darkshore - identical towers, lots of dark magic and a boss to kill at the top.. and they're both pretty difficult to solo at the ""correct"" level.

Not a quest for shadowpriests. All of the mobs are pretty much shadow dmg resistance stacked. So your shadow spells does atleast half less even if not more.

Fun!

He has a Succubus, 4 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=819 Servant of Ilgalar and 4 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=429 Shadowhide Darkweaver spaced around the top floor.

I didn't know the capabilities of the Succubus, so I pulled the Servants and Drkweavers that were away from Morganth, then I took on Morganth's Succubus, then Morganth, then the other two Servants and Darkweavers. I didn't see the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2531 Minion of Morganth.

I did this with a level 25 Paladin that was pretty well geared, https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=2194 Diamond Hammer and https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4820 Guardian Buckler. I only popped a Greater Healing Potion about 2/3rds of the way into the fight.

Easy as a level 30 rogue. Sap 1 gnoll, cheap shot Morganth. He's dead before he casts anything and the rest is cake. Too bad the reward is useless.

Speaking as a lvl24 Rogue:

Making your way up to the top floor can be harder than Morganth and his friends. There is an assassin on the inside of the tower entrance to watch out for. On the way up some mobs are closer to others than you might think, it's easy to body-pull an extra one whilst clearing the way, Evasion was useful for me here. At the top clear some room, kill Morganth first then tidy up the adds before coming back to loot.

Once at the top this is how I did it:

1. Got rid of the 2 extra packs on the top floor (sap the Darkweaver, spank the Servants, spank the Darkweaver)

2. Morganth pack consisted of Morganth, his Succubus, and 2 Darkweavers. Sapped one Darkweaver.

3. Went all out on Morganth. Used Evasion at the start, didn't bother kicking his summon. Morganth dead.

4. Vanished. This despawned his Succubus and the summoned Minion of Morganth.

5. Sapped one Darkweaver, killed the other, killed the sapped one.

6. Looted. Hearthstoned out.

As of the new patch 4.0.3a - this npc does not spawn or can be located in the Tower of IIgalar. I spent 30+ minutes in the tower and npc didn't show. submitted a ticket to GMs.

I finally got a quest (about 36 quests in to my redridge achievement) called ""The Dark Tower"" it was deep into a quest chain where you save the 4 guys in Alpha Company. This allowed me to get the key of ilgalar and open the door to the tower.

having finally obtained the key I thought I would be able to complete ""Morganth"" ...

When I looted the key it completed the quest ""https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=26693 the dark tower"" and it started a quest called ""https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=26694 the grand magus doane"" At the top of the tower was Grand Magus Doane only

Morganth is no where to be found like the 2 previous posters mentioned. This quest appears broken at this time.
