The Stave of Equinex

Energize Troyas' Stave and find the Equinex Monolith.
Stave of Equinex
Provided Item:
Troyas' Stave

Description

This stave might be the Stave of Equinex! The Stave of Equinex is actually a key, used to unlock the Equinex Monolith in the Ruins of Ravenwind, on the mainland west of the Dream Bough.

Find the four flames that still burn in those ruins: Samha, Imbel, Byltan, and Lahassa. Retrieve their essence and then while standing by the Equinex Monolith, use the essences to energize the stave. If this is truly is the Stave of Equinex, you will be able to unlock the Monolith and gather a sacred artifact from it.

Reward

You will receive:
A Sparkling Stone

Progress

The Equinex Monolith stands silently among the ruins. What could it be holding?

Completion

Holding the energized stave is almost impossible. Its power rumbles through your body.

You reach out to the cold surface of the Equinex Monolith...

A small door opens, allowing you to reach in and take the artifact inside.

Beams of light fill the area around the Equinex Monolith.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 470 experience (28 20 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Darnassus

Flame of Imbel > 40,9
Flame of Lahassa > 38,12
Flame of Byltan > 38,16
Flame of Samha > 41,13

Equinex Monolith > 39,13

After you gather all 4 flames, make your way to the Equinex Monolith.

Then right-click the Troyas stave in your inventory. This will consume the Troyas stave and the 4 flames, turning them into the Stave of Equinex.

Then right-click on the Equinex Monolith itself. This will allow you to complete The Stave of Equinex quest and immediately gives you the follow-up quest, The Morrow Stone.

You should have the Stave of Equinex and A Sparkling Stone in your inventory. Check your quest log just in case (bec it's a long run back if you forgot something), and return to Troyas Moonbreeze in Feathermoon Stronghold to turn in.

After you pick up this quest, make sure you get https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2844 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2844 from the Rockbiter at 42,21. The quest item he wants is in the same area.

Word to the wise -- practice your jumping. I found Samha flame at 41,13 but you have to jump different parts of the ruins to get up there. It's a blue flame... we'll see about the others soon enough...

Tried this quest with a 45 warlock. Getting the 4 flames is no problem, the real pain is getting to Equinex Monolith. It's surrounded be loads of mobs ranging from 48-50. It's almost impossible only to pull one at the time, as many of them are casters and will stay where they are when you agro them, resulting in 2 or more passing by them. I recommend being atleast level 49-50 before doing this quest as Wowhead tells you to.

The Flame of Samha is indeed at 41,13. Start jumping the stones at 40,11 to get there.

The current coordinates are helpful in finding the area for the quest; however, the exact locations are slightly different.

Flame of Imbel > 39, 9
Flame of Lahassa > 37, 12
Flame of Byltan > 38, 15
Flame of Samha > 40, 12

Equinex Monolith > 38,13

Also, as stated you can easily become overwhelmed by the mobs. Be aware of them and clear to the locations of the flames instead running through the mobs to them.

Hope this helps.

The names of the four flames appear to be a reference to the names of the four http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-quarter_day cross-quarter days (days halfway between solstice and equinox) in pagan culture:
Samha = Samhain (early November)
Imbel = Imbolc (early February)
Byltan = Beltane (early May)
Lahassa = Lughnasadh (early August)
And ""Equinex"" sounds fairly similar to equinox.

Just solo'd with my 48 rogue. Stealth is your best friend on this one rogues. You can stealth to each fire and get the essence and very few mobs kills. Just Cheap Shot them and wack away.

When it comes to the monolith, take a minute to watch the patterns the mobs have. First pull might have to be a multiple pull, but if you get into a bind just Vanish. I had to Vanish once and I was able to single pull the rest from Stealth.

Good luck to all.

Just a thought on the jumping sequence needed for the Samha flame: I found jumping backwards was more accurate on the square block and the wall next to it.

Like Sierracake, did this with my lv48 rogue. Stealthed to get all flames, only aggroed one mob. Good tip: use Crippling poison on one of your weapons. The mobs here are indeed very cowardly and try to run for help from their plentiful girlfriends, but the poison made this impossible. I also used Deadly poison and built up like 3 or 4 combo points then used Rupture so when the mob tried to escape she only got 5 yards then collapsed hehe. At the monolith I cleared 2 mobs on the northern side (again no chance for them to escape), and was then easily able to complete.

I had no trouble finding the monolith and bother with the mobs there, found it first but the fires are a different mater. lvl50 hunter has no problems with mobs, but bring plenty of ammo.

If you don't already hate harpies, this quest will make you hate them.

This has to be one of the most densely packed areas I've experienced in the game. They practically fall from the sky onto your head. You'll more than likely get ambushed and pull unwanted mobs, there's pretty much no avoiding it. Even fighting one solo you'll probably have a second sneak up on you that you had no idea was there. To top it off, half of them are casters, they can lock you in place with a wind spell and they all flee when HP gets low.

Joy.

Yes there are quite a few harpies but if u start from the sides, killing those which wander out on their own the pack thins considerably, and you don't need to bother with those behind the altar, just make a ""corridor"" to go there and click safely.
The jump is a joke. Did it first time, just combined jumping mounted or not, depending on the space available and the height needed.

Broken for me. Only 4 fire on the map and all of them say I lack the Byltan essence. Joy.

As for the half-hearted Druidic reference, there are more Star Wars references.
