Uncovering the Past

Prospector Whelgar wants you to scour the excavation site in search of the 4 missing tablet fragments: Ados, Modr, Golm and Neru.
Ados Fragment
Modr Fragment
Golm Fragment
Neru Fragment

Description

Just before the invasion I uncovered a large tablet called the Goaz Stone. The translated text breaks off in 4 places. The text speaks of a "divine plan" and a "doomed prophecy."

I fear we are running out of time. I am too old to go down and brave those beasts. But you are strong.

Scour the excavation site and uncover the 4 missing tablet fragments: Ados, Modr, Golm and Neru. Search for them in ancient artifacts or where the soil is loose. Bring them to me so I can begin unlocking the mystery!

Reward

You will receive:
Silk Mantle of Gamn
Also, you get: 25

Progress

Have you uncovered the four fragments yet, <name>? Ados, Modr, Golm and Neru...

Completion

Ah the Goaz Stone is complete! Fine work, <name>. Fine work indeed. Now I can continue with the delicate translation of this Titan script. I can make out new words already! Hmm. . .it says here, "Old Gods. . .Chained Beneath the Land." This is the beginning of something epic.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 230 experience (13 80 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Ironforge

The spawns for each relic are in random places around the excavation, sometimes being up a hill with some equipment. Each looks like something different: a tall and skinny vase, a stone chest, a short and wide vase, and a pile of loose dirt. Not positive which one is which.

Ados - Ancient Relic (Crypt)
Golm - Ancient Relic (Short Fat Vase)
Modr - Ancient Relic (Tall Skinny Vase)
Neru - Loose Soil

These are random spawns throughout the excavation site so it will take a while to find them all.

If you're having trouble finding an item or two, don't forget to look on the ledge where Sarltooth spawns -- often you'll find one just in front of him. Other easy to miss places are under the bridges that span the dig site and the area just behind the raptor eggs, where the purple raptors are (near the ramp that leads up to the quest NPCs).

Good quest to do along with Ormer's Revenge part two, where you need to kill the kind of raptors that are all over the site.

I found another spot. from the ledge the boss is on, jump down to another ledge to the east. you have to go past the boss. I'm not sure if this is the same ledge you see from the cave where the NPCs are, or if that's another ledge, and whether the relics might be able to appear on that one as well or not.
I wasted probably an hour trying to find that. and it rained at one point.

Paired it with Ormer's Revenge Part 2, finished this one before I'd finished killing all the Raptors. Pair it, you'll be glad you did. Even if you don't finish it before part 2, you can still work on it while you are trying to find and kill Sarltooth.

I found a really evil one. I had 2, the tall and the fat vases. Well, i found the crypt and looted. I was about to go, but i saw glimmer. THE LOOSE SOIL WAS INSIDE THE CRYPT!! Ah. By the way, their usual place (random):
Always check behind https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1353 Sarltooth ,
The great tree at the roads leg which leads to the dwarves,
The little house-wreck,
In the middle of the site.

""'Divine plan"" and a ""Doomed prophecy.'""
""'Old Gods. . .Chained Beneath the Land.'""

Theory

Divine Plan: Titans imprisoning the Old Gods beneath the land, so they do no more harm.

Doomed Prophecy: The Old Gods will eventually break free of their bonds and terrorize Azeroth once more.

Thanks for this incredible tip!

And to everyone else:<div class=""quote"">If you have looked behind the tree and not found anything...

Look again!

And you don't find anything then, you know what?

Keep looking! ...and look...and look...and look...I was sooo certain that I have looked there, so I ended up spending at least 20 minutes going over the excavation site and killing everything four times and looking every where at least ten times. Could not find the darn https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=2661 Neru Fragment in the https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=331 Loose Soil.

This can be a pretty horrible quest if you don't know the tricky places to look.

All the fragments are inside the excavation site so don't go looking for them elsewhere:
- Far north behind a tree next to one of the smaller raptors.
- Far east. If you're standing next to the quest-givers, just jump down facing west and there might be a relic hiding there. Be carefull not to fall all the way at once or you might just die.
- Far south, up the hill right next to Sarltooth.
- If you jump down to the plateau exactly east of Sarltooth, there may be a fragment hiding there.

These are the tricky places you wouldn't think to look, the fragments are normally out in the open, but there's usually always a single one hiding somewhere.

Most. Annoying. Quest. In. The. Game.

I had forgotton how freaking annoying this quest was. I gave up after an hour of searching for the non-existant Modr vase.

I've heard you have to get all the fragments in a certain order, is that true?

Here's one: I have done this quest many times and have seen the Ados fragment (the one in the very large flat cement looking chest) spawn in different places. After a half hour of frustration I gave up ready to call it a night and what do I spy at the bottom of the ramp from Ormer's cave, right by the raptor eggs? The Ados fragment. I've never seen it spawn there and so I never thought to look there myself.

The two most common areas that people will miss are at the bottom of the ramp leading up to the quest giver, and in the area where Sarltooth can spawn (up the ramp on the opposite side of the pit).

Unless they have recently made this quest easier, Im not sure what everyone had such an issue with. I completed the quest in less than 10 mins. I jsut kept a keen eye open for the sparkling that comes with things you gotta get. Killed the raptors, loot, and off we go. Easy as pie as a Lvl 25 warrior.
