Troll Temper (20)

Description

The Sandfury trolls of Zul'Farrak make a tempering agent from sandstones, and I can use that to temper the goods I craft, yes I can! It is highly prized by connoisseurs, so if you bring me a good supply of the temper, then I'll reward you well.

Pick up the other quests for Zul'Farrak and do this one on the side. The drop rate is so-so, especially in a party. It took me two full runs through ZF to collect all 20 and at my level, the XP was only 2850. The other quests have much better XP (and other) rewards.

Take friends. This is rated as a level 45 quest, but the mobs are almost all level 45+ elites. Even with a couple 50+ characters, this one is a challenge as most fights involve at least 3 mobs and often more. Great experience though even at level 50+.

Took me only 1 run to get all 20, Some bosses drop 5 Tempers inplace of 1, that makes it easier to get them all

I found that doing this quest solo with a pet is significantly easier than without, or even in a party. I preferred staying mostly in the front area of the instance, that entry room before the first hall which opens to the big one with the monolith in the middle. I can barely handle one or two at a time, much less three, so obviously it was difficult when most mobs were at max 3 (if they didn't run and attract more).

Sending my Void to tank, I'd focus all my energy on killing the Witch Doctor in the group first, being they can Flash Heal or summon a Healing Ward, then, I'd run out of the instance. Don't worry about your tanking pet, they'll be right next to you outside the instance. Afterwards I'd run back in and finish the other two much more easily, or if you can't handle that just do one by one, running in and out. It's not as tedious as it sounds. I prefer killing in this order: Witch Doctor, Blood Drinker, Shadowcaster. Shadowcasters die very easily and don't have a very high DPS, while Blood Drinkers have a higher defense and DPS. It all depends on your priority, and what you can handle.

There's one patroller, that goes halfway into the front room you'll be in and then patrols back. Be sure to time attacks just right, and minimize fearing with maximized DPS. Concussive Shot will really help you out when they start to run, or if you're a Lock cast Curse of Recklessness right before their health gets seriously low. Chances are your pet may die, so don't forget to bring a ton of inexpensive mana regening items, and don't be afraid to Drain Soul whenever you can. Sacrifice can be a massively fantastic friend. If you want to go beyond that room, into the hall, or further, be aware that the mobs can get bigger, especially if one runs. Otherwise when that first room is clear (and the hall if you want), run out, reset, and repeat.

I'd also like to add that running out of the instance instantly regens your Demon to full mana/hp. I don't know if it's the same for hunter pets. Resetting the instance also changes the spawn of each mob, varying each one or making them all one type. I like resetting them all to Shadowcasters or Blood Drinkers, Witch Doctors just annoy me. But don't do it too much, I mean, there is a limit on instance entering.

This quest counts towards the Loremaster of Kalimidor achievement. Alone at level 80, I killed around 60 mobs to get 20 tempers, a 33% drop rate.
