Dark Heart

Talo Thornhoof in Camp Mojache wants Edana Hatetalon's Dark Heart.
Edana's Dark Heart

Description

Edana Hatetalon is the queen of the Northspring harpies that reside in the ruins to the west. She is pure evil; I have heard that her heart is one of crystal. She is void of any emotion aside from the hate she feels towards all others. You must face Edana and bring me back her dark heart.

I have heard of a horn that harpies carry -- blowing it by the Hatetalon stones, in the northern part of the ruins, will summon the queen.

Imagine her surprise when it is not her kin calling her, but her death.

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Wingcrest Gloves
Stronghorn Girdle

Progress

The hate that Edana spreads across the land must be stopped.

Completion

Now I know that Edana is truly dead. This heart; I will keep it in memory of what did here for me, <name>. Thank you.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 590 experience (35 40 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Thunder Bluff

The Hatetalon Stones are at 41,8. I spent like 20 minutes looking for it. If you go all the way to the north of the ruins you'll see two large stones and a smaller stone just north of them with a hole in the middle. You can use the horn there.

The horn is a drop off of any of the Hatetalons around the area, often times it will take awhile for it to drop.

Also complete this quest with Vengeance on the Northspring (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3063 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3063)

The elite mob is easy to solo. Very low HP and armour. Taking the enemy as soon as possible is the best strategy, so make sure you use all you burst DPS abilites quickly. Also wait for your cooldown abilities to be available to you.

However, the most difficult part of the quest isn't killing Edana, but finding the Horn of Hatetalon. You normally get a drop after killing about 200 harpies. It is a good grinding spot though.

If you die, you're in for a LONG walk. There's a path up at 46,37. I hurried back and she was still spawned, so I didn't have to farm another horn.

Stay around the outer edges of the area. The paths are very tight, and the respawn is pretty fast so when they 'run' at the end you may aggro 2-3 more. Plus with all the pillars you lose sight of where they are. At 47 lock w/succubus the most I can handle is 2 at a time, or 2 and then 1 add near the 1st death so like 2.5/time. Good luck!

To easily locate the summoning place, find a path that begins at 41.9. It is lined by glowing lanterns. Follow that path to the large twin rocks, just a short distance, and summon Edna there.

It was kind of easy with my lock lvl 50. My VW died, but also she did. The drop rate for the horn was really bad, after my 24th slay, some of them finally drop it.

Also got the horn after my first harpie, but YMMV.

I'd be willing to bet that the Horn was changed to a near 100% drop rate in 2.3. I've gotten it 5 times in a row (tested it by deleting the Horn, hoping to get another one). The quest has been made insanely easy, no one should have any problem doing it.

This is the only quest I've ever given up on. Drop rate sucks. I had https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3063 Vengeance on the Northspring long fininished and still no drop.

Working my way around near an Alliance player (I'm Horde) the harpies all spawned on me at once. I was killing so many the Alliance player was cheering me on! Still, there's a lot more quests avail to me at this lvl that I don't have to grind harpies all day.

Unless they fix the drop rate I don't advise doing this quest. https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=9530#comments Horn of Hatetalon

This spot is a godsend!!! I feel like its almost too good to be true. Seriously.

The harpies here are easy to die. They dont take that much to kill them. They also drop a bomb of mageweave &amp; to top it all off, if you are a herbalist/alchemist you get lots of purple lotus that keeps on growing and growing and growing.

Grind here for about an hour and ur bags will be very full. I don't like grinding so much but this is probs the best grind in the game. I'd say hunters grind here at around 48-52.

Comfirming what cheboy said, it's a great grind spot. The harpy's are around level 49-50 but they go down really easily.

As for Hatetalon, I didn't have a 100% drop rate as LilDorth said but I got if from my 2nd or 3rd kill. As a mage to take her out I just used Counter Spell &gt; Frost Nova &gt; Frost Bolt x3 and she was out. I didn't lose a single hit of health.

With the exception of the couple of times I accidentally drew a mob of harpies and died, i got through it alright with a level 47 lock.

Alls i had to do was keep drain tanking, and i was always at near full health and rarely without mana. As many harpies are in that place, you dont want to run out of either if you're going it alone.

Ridiculously easy now that she's non-elite. Also, if you blow the horn right by the stone with the swirly thing in it, she spawns with her back to you and doesn't aggro right away. So rogues and druids have plenty of time to stealth and then mess her up quick.

Note that getting the horn is not noted by quest tracking, so if you have autoloot on you might have it without realizing it.

Solo'd as a 45 warrior. I never, ever want to do that again as long as I live. If you're going to do it this early, make sure you have some damn good gear. You can kill the harpies as a warrior with lots of bleed effects, but don't count on white damage.

Edana is no more difficult than the other harpies, really.

This is an insanely easy quest and it is a great way to get some quick experience points if you do it with https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3063 Vengeance on the Northspring like recommended above. I soloed this on my level 48 Rogue and it was a snap.I highly recommend this quest for some quick loot and EXP.

Did it as a 47 rouge. the horn drops off the first harpy you kill. id do thisquest aong with Vengence on the Northspring to save you returning.
