Description

The machines made themselves known to us during our initial forays into the Searing Gorge. Upon further investigation we discovered that they were being imported from Burning Steppes, possibly Blackrock Depths. That is what we need you for, <name>.

Your first task is to venture to the Burning Steppes and recover elemental shards from the rock automatons and lesser rock creations of the region. Once you have collected a sufficient amount, return to me and I shall determine their source of origin.

Progress

Do not take this task lightly, <name>!

<Theodora lays the fragments out before her.>

<Theodora carefully examines the fragments with an enormous monocle.>

They can drop from the War Reavers or the Greater Rock Elems in the lava pits, seems to be about a 70% drop off of the reavers.

Just be wary of the little dwarves that are in the area. Sometimes you can't see their short statures behind the little stone walls and they aggro while you're fighting the elementals.

I just killed War Reavers (lvl 53-55) south of Flame Crest. Anyone in need of Runecloth should go ahead and kill the humanoids in the ruins as well as they drop Runecloth at a pretty decent drop rate. Took 26 War Reavers to drop 10.

This quest was a complete pain in the ass for a lvl 53 mutilate rogue. Drop rate is fine but the mobs in question are immune to gouge, poisons and blind and have huge armor. Also, about half of the war reavers patrol around so you have about 50% chance of having another join in your fight at any given time. Ended up dying about 10 times and taking 2hrs -_-. Make sure you have your fights planned out well if you're melee.

Reavers are much easier to find and always drop money but they're packed in with dwarves who also like to patrol around. Greater obisidian guys are a bit easier to take down and even offer 5 Hydraxian rep per kill and frequently drop essences of earth, although they just as often drop nothing at all. Unfortunately, they're spread all over the zone and share spawning places with groups of imps which you generally want to avoid. Pick your poison, but not literally &gt;.&gt;

I wanted to add that the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=8981"">Malfunctioning Reaver (rare spawn) also drops the Fractured Elemental Shards. I happened to find him earlier while on the quest and he dropped 5 of them! Lucky for me, that's exactly how many I needed to finish :).

Greater Obsidian Elemental has high ammount of chance to drop them, War Reaver instead drop rate is very low (for me) i suggest u to kill the Greater Obsidian Elemental instead to do War Reaver, u can found them in the lava pools

extremely easy as a 53 frost mage... It was like they wanted me to crit on them. I think I took about 100 dmg for the whole quest. Have fun.

I did this quest 16/06/08 and now the drop rates seem to be extremely increased, it must be atleast 70% on the reavers, and pretty much the same on the Greater Obsidian Elementals :p

These drop off from War Reavers - In Ruins of Thaurissan.
Demo Lock level 52 - 11 kills to complete this quest.
Those little bugger Dwarf Spies will come at you, just kill them off. Good money and loot.

Also, as a warlock to other warlocks - They are not drainlife'able. But they can be drain souled. Along with other mechanical type mobs.
