The Writhing Deep

Now that Raschal's last known whereabouts have been discovered, continue your search for him or his remains in the Writhing Deep. According to the note, it is located to the south of the Woodpaw gnoll camps.
Provided Item:
Undelivered Parcel

Description

Inside the backpacks are two items: the first is a parcel of goods that was bound for Thalanaar, and the second is a note hastily penned to an unknown reader.

The note tells of discovering insidious bug-like creatures south of the gnoll camps in a place called the Writhing Deep. The author felt the need to investigate it personally, as though it was a serious threat to all of Feralas. The note is signed, "Raschal of Feathermoon".

It would seem that you have located where Raschal ultimately went.

Completion

You have discovered a large pod of an alien nature. The texture of the pod appears mucous, though hardened protrusions stick out from random parts of it. The pod itself has the height and width to easily encompass a humanoid inside of it... and from the faint humanoid shape visible through the skin of the pod, you surmise that this is what it indeed encapsulates.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 305 experience (18 30 at max. level)
  • 150 Reputation with Darnassus

Spiral entrance is at 73, 63. Go to the bottom of the spiral, point yourself southwest and go in that cave. Stay to the right till you come to a room with 3 bugs and a Zukk'ash Pod in the middle. You'll have to attack the pod to set him free.

To help with picking the right cave, once you're at the bottom of the spiral, facing the opposite wall, you will have a cave on your right, and two caves (one on top of another) on your left. Take the left BOTTOM cave of course staying to your right as Nifty said. Don't go too fast, there are a couple mobs along the tunnel as you go. Don't run into the cave as soon as you see the pod, there is a bug on either side of the entrance. Move to one side and take that bug first, then go for the others one at a time. Done without heals on a 48 feral druid, I only killed the mobs on the way and the two on either side of the pod, I didn't have to go after the third. The mobs do dodge and parry a lot so it's best if you are at least level 46, in case the patrolling bug aggros. Don't worry about Raschal, once he is out of the pod he *stealths* on his own, stay next to him until you get the *complete* message on your screen. Then you can either stealth/prowl out or fight more insects if they've respawned.

Just a note: there are 2 different tunnels. Go to the top entrance in the western one. Luckily, it's the smaller of the 2. Go to the western room once in the tunnel.

If you're hearthing out, make sure you stick around long enough to complete the followup quest. I goofed on this one time and cost myself some exp.

The courier's position is displayed with a question mark post 2.3 and that helps a lot: keep circling until you see it.

Completed as a reasonably well-geared 43 affliction warlock with voidwalker. Biggest problem was aggroing 47 and 46 flying mobs at the same time, otherwise straightforward single-mob fights. Well worth it for the gloves at the very end of the chain.

I tried this quest as a 43 fire mage, fairly geared. I had been able to do several quests at this level, but this one was much tougher. The bugs patrol a LOT, and my spells seemed to do amazingly little damage. About 1/3 of my casts were resisted. I got a good ways in, when enemies started respawning behind me; they have a fast respawn. I gave up after a second death.

Also note that the bugs cannot be polymorphed, and they resisted at least 2/3 of my frost novas. Do these enemies have a high frost resistance?

I recommend you wait until at least 44 or 45, higher if possible.

I did this as a lv 42 rogue, average gear.

Be careful and fight one mob at a time and you should be OK. I had to blind/gouge to bandage at some point. I tried this at lv 41 also, but then it was too tough.

Don't forget about the item you get https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=11463 Undelivered Parcel from the quest before. I found this in my backpack as I was leaving the hive, didn't see that I had got the item as it wasn't a quest objective as such. This item starts the quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4281 Thalanaar Delivery which is a quick drop off in Eastern Feralas.

This quest (delivery) counts for Loremaster of Kalimdor.

I did this as a level 42 frost mage with 3k mana and 77 spell bonus damage and 23 spell hit. I don't know how it would go without the spell hit.

My first attempt failed because I wasn't killing faster than the respawn, but the second attempt worked. On that attempt, I used https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=11426 Ice Barrier and just kept casting Frostbolt. It was good to cast Ice Barrier a little before starting a fight so it could be ready again in the middle. I drank what I could conjure but used Evocation when it was available to speed up mana regen.

Never attack a level 46 without full mana because half of it goes flying past their heads in misses, and pull with extreme care because of all the patrols. Finally, while you can't normally hearth out while being attacked, you can if you have Ice Barrier up!

Odd, I just got and did this quest.
Upon completion I was told that I don't meet the requirements for that quest, obviously the follow-up.
