Description

See Larion over there? It's HIS fault we're here!

I told him we were going the wrong way, but would he listen? And would you believe that he's the one that won't speak to me? Well, until he changes his mind, let's have a bit of fun with him.

Have you noticed the strange plant-like creatures around here? They're nothing but trouble, really, but I think if trained properly, I could get them to obey commands.

First thing though, I'll need some samples to study. Do you think you could collect some?

Progress

Larion's got something coming, that's for sure!

Completion

I hope they didn't give you too much trouble, <name>. I try to steer clear of them -- they're wild!

I tried jumping over one... I was attacked! Plants just shouldn't be acting that way!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 510 experience (30 60 at max. level)

Tedious with a capital ""T""! I slugged away at this quest off-and-on for over a week. The only critters that I found much success with were the Bloodpetal Lashers. They had about a 25% drop rate and that was the best I could find. I found a good supply of them in the Northeast section (1:00 to 2:00 position on the map) or around 68,22.

This quest will take forever. If you dont have someone running you around killing these thing at record pace it may take you and hour or two. As a 50 rogue the poisen wasnt helping either.

Pretty low drop rate for me, around 15%. As a caster, the poison made an already tedious quest even more tedious, one of the worst in Un'Goro.

Found a nice little cove along the mountain side at the far North East corner of the map (71,21) full with the lowest Lv mobs for this item ""Bloodpetal Lasher"" Lv 48 &amp; 49 (South East of Fungal Rock for those without coords)

I am still working on this quest, the drop rate is awful and the poison damage will hinder your pace more than anything else. 5100 xp can very well be gained in just a few minutes by quest-grinding other mobs in the zone. If you really want to do this questline then do it at levels 52-53 and kill the level 48 mobs.

Took me over an hour to get these as lvl 51 combat rogue.

These Bloodpetal mobs have have annoying abilities such as https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=14110 Bloodpetal Poison and https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=25852 Lash.

I found it easiest to simply do this while doing the other quests and just kill whatever Bloodpetals you find along the way rather then sit there and hunt them until finished... helps with the tedium :P

Yiano has the right idea.

You spend a decent amount of time in Un'Goro Crater and there are Bloodpetal mobs across the entire zone spanning 48-53. Instead of just zerging through the quest for 15 in one sitting, pace it and kill them between other quests and the poor drop rate won't seem so noticeable.

I found the drop rate to be about even between the lashers and threshers in the NE corner (beware the great white devilsaur). However, I think it is worth noting that Lashers have a few special moves that make killing them a little slower for melee classes. The two I disliked was their Lash (knocks you down, stuns a few seconds) and their disarm.

Threshers only poison and were therefore a faster kill for me than the Lashers.

The poison is a pain, and if you can dispel it you should as quickly as possible as it also drains mana.

As some have mentioned above, stick to Thrashers and Lashers and try to do this quest en route to others. It took me about an hour doing it this way.

I noticed one thing though to make a little easier, there are two quests to collect a total of 29 samples of Un'Goro soil. All of these Bloodpetal creatures drop both items and if you notice 33-40 percent of the time you will get one of two items or both.

Save yourself some time through avoiding this quest, unless you like me are stubborn as hell and decide to do all possible quests at once.

Or you can waste some time reading a desperate player's experiences with this quest:
I was running around doing quests such as killing dinosaurs and looting their scales. I killed some of those darn flowers and got about 4 quest items pretty fast. Therefor I decided to continue on it. Running to get the camp supply crate or whatever I found alot of those flower and killed some of them just to not get a single drop in about 20-30 kills and ending up with a elite dinosaur eating me alive. In my desperation I tried to fear and hamstring it but those bastards just won't stop following you.

Having died once and killed some more flowers which actually finally dropped some quest items, I decided tog on wowhead and see what people thinks about it, just to tab back and find myself being eaten by the dinosaur once more.

You do well skipping this quest, saves you time, tears and sweat, really.
BTW, the dropchance is bugged as wowhead dosn't count empty corpses.

It seems the drop rate for the items required to complete this quest has been raised. Or I'm just getting extremely lucky!

Agreed, the drop rate could DEFINATELY be better. But as a 54 hunter, just send your pet in, and you avoid most of the effects from the lashers. Happy Questing!

Blizzard must have increased the drop rate for the bloodpetals because I didn't have a problem at all. I would think the rate must be 15% for the threshers and a good 30% for the Lashers. I would encourage everyone to try this quest again because I was done in 15 minutes.

Okay, Wowhead says this is no longe ravailable. I turned this one in this morning. Now there were other quests that followed this one, including one where you take on Larion but the rewards were rather crap. As for the drop rate, the best thing to do is get all of the ""hop and pop"" quests all at once so all you need to do is head into Un'Goro and just kill everything. I even took on one of the roaming devilsaurs 9lvl 54 elite) and took him down with over fully 1/3 of my health intact, no buffs and in nothing but greens ( lvl 56-57 weap spec warrior/casual player.) I had all the gathering quests completed within a couple of hours with all of the trashy drop rates and vented a LOT of frustration on the targets critters. Main thing is to have patience and start a'slaughterin'.

Anyone up for buffalo pterrorax wings and bloodthrasher salads?
