The Hidden Niche

Take Alaric to the hidden alcove.
Alaric's Remains
Provided Item:
Alaric's Remains

Description

I know of a hidden niche within the keep that holds an item dear to Thule, and his old colleagues. It also holds something you might find useful. Take me there!

The alcove is in the southwestern tower of the keep, behind a dusty shelf.

Take my body, but leave my boots. They never fit me anyway...

Reward

Also, you get: 5

Progress

This is the spot! Bring me closer...

Completion

There we are, it's open. Leave me here. I spent the best days of my life in this keep, and the thought of resting within its walls gives me comfort.

Be sure to close the alcove tight - I don't want those Rot Hides to find me.

Oh, and take this. You've earned it.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 67.5 experience (4 5 at max. level)
  • 75 Reputation with Undercity

You'll need to enter the keep on Fenris Isle and get to the roof. Enter through the entrance and take the following path: left->right->right->go up the stairs->left->left->go up the stairs. If you die making your way up, head right to the roof before ressing and you can bypass the gnolls. Once you reach the roof, cross it and it's in the tower - hovering your mouse over the towers on the roof will light up ""Dusty Shelf"".

The bug i believe has been fixed you cant finish this quest from the out side. I recommend going to roof then find the SW tower clear the enemy inside then locate bookcase which is on the left side of entrance.

I did not find the above directions to be correct. You need the SW tower, not the SE one. From the entrance, turn right, left, left, right and go upstairs, right, right, upstairs, and cross the passage to the SW tower. The niche is in the bookshelf to the left of the entrance.

I seriously recommend running this with someone, the gnolls are EVERYWHERE, and lets just say they don't play fair...

I tailed more than three, more than once.

This is how I did it as a lvl 19 UD warlock. On the -east- side of the keep (the side closest towards Lordaeron, right by SE tower), there is a large crack in the wall. Approach the island to the east, you'll have to fight a murloc or two, then carefully go to the crack. On the other side of the wall are three gnolls, a 22, 19, and 18, under a tent. Sicced the voidy on them, dotted them up, and feared one. Those done, there was a chest under the tent to loot. There were a couple of 18 or 19 gnolls to beat down by the wall. Then I got next to the keep's wall, moving west until I was almost right under the yellow question mark. I dismissed the VW, took off all my armor, then CoA'ed a gnoll, who I let kill me.

From the Sepulcher's GY, I ran back, but this time thru the front gate, to the keep, and followed Halldorr's directions to get to the SW tower, above. I waited for a free moment from the wandering gnoll, rezzed, then beat him down (demon skin, dots + lots of shadow bolts, plus popping a healthstone and pot, he almost got me). After the gnoll was dead, I put my armor back on, summoned the voidy, and took care of the gnoll right in front of the dusty shelf inside the tower.

Instead of fighting my way down the tower, I went back out to the east side of the roof, jumped down to the wall below, then down to the ground. Fought a couple more murlocs, swam back to Silverpine shore, and turned in the quest. Not easy, but not too hard, the GY walk took the most time.

This quest is pretty easy, untill you reach the keep. Lots of patrols there. It's hard to heal through, if in any chance you're a healing class. Try to take them one on one. Don't die or everything will just respawn, or respawn when fighting a mob.
Exp wise this quest is a waste of time, the chance you die is very very high, even for experienced players.

If you do wanna complete this chain, I recommend being level 20, so you have a couple of more upgraded skills.
A warlock or Hunter shouldn't have much problems with this quest anyway.

If you're not bothered about grinding the mobs in the keep and want to get back to the sep try dieing just under the corner of the keep. Next spirit run up to the roof and res in the middle away from the battlements, kill about 2 mobs and your done. Handy if your multiboxing and get more xp from quests than grinding.

It gives me boredom when I put my self in that speaking head's position. You will forever be in that dark hidden place without someone to talk to. Forever... Only hearing the surrending Gnoll's snorts and praying for not to be seen or else you will be a tool again until another advanturer finds you. :s
