Description

I have been studying the dragonkin of the Burning Steppes for weeks, and I think I've finally had a breakthrough! I created a device--I call it the Draco Incarcinatrix 900. It can capture the essence of dragon whelp broodlings!

Or, at least I think it can.

Here, take the device and zap a broodling in the Burning Steppes with it. While it's under the device's effects, defeat the broodling and its essence should be released.

If it is, then splendid! Bring me back samples so I can study them!

Any of the small broodlings work for this quest. Fire the device at them, then kill them, and a crystal will spawn. Loot the crystal for the essence.

Also, be careful - the device has a *tiny* range.

This should be done at the same time as Dragonkin Menace (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4182 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4182), since you need to kill Broodlings for that quest as well.

For druids--Easiest way to do this is sleep the dragonkin, use item, kill and loot.

Whelps fire hits hard. They also easily agro nearby friends.

Similar to what someone else suggested, just run right up to the Broodlings and use the Draco Incarcinatrix 900 immediately, before they even react. From what I can tell, they always open with a Fireball, so this will provide you enough time to finish the cast.

If you are a Shaman and are worried about timing it right, drop a Grounding Totem at the start - that will afford you another second or two, since the Fireball will not hit you.

I don't see any comments giving correct coordinates for a good bunch of Broodlings.

I found a good spot of atleast 4 or 5. (83.9,61)

I'd also like to say that the Draco-Incarcinatrix 900 is a 2 second cast, while the Broodling Fireball is a 3 second cast.

EDIT: The whole east side of Burning Steppes has atleast 20 Broodlings. Go to the east and there are tons. Go up and down the side of the east mountains. =)

As a rogue i found the easiest method for this was to use stelth to get within range, use the incarcinatrix, this takes you out of stealth but gives enough time to cast and sometimes attack before the fireball is cast.

Not sure if it would work but you could also try to kick before before the fireball is cast.

is there any pre-quest, that need to be done, before obtaining this one? I wanted to start this chain on my alt, but I cant get any quests from this Lady.

If your going to do the Dragonkin Menace quest at the same time, make sure you're killing the right broodlings. Dragonkin Menace requires you to kill Black Broodlings... it'd be a bit irritating to think you're nearly finished with the broodlings then find out you're not... =D

quite easy soloable on a level 54 demonology lock.
i just send in the felguard and put on corruption and curse of agony. use the device and by then they only have about 600 life left. finish em off with a shadow bolt and loot the weird crystaly thingy. and just keep doing. easy peasy :)

Can anyone confirm that this quest provides rep with all the goblin towns but does NOT subtract rep with Bloodsail? I'm considering saving this quest and it's follow ups until after I go for the Bloodsail achievements as a way to save a little grinding, but given that the questgiver belongs to Booty Bay, I'm a little nervous. So can anyone confirm? No loss of Bloodsail rep?

(I'll be damned if I spend all that time grinding Bloodsail rep to just throw it away when I'm done =P)

I just did this quest, and did not lose any of my Bloodsail rep - increased all my steamweedle reputation by 250. Going to do these other quests here, believe they may be safe. Woohoo!

This quest starts a four-quest chain, two of which count toward https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=1680 Loremaster of Kalimdor rather than https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=1677 Eastern Kingdoms.

These two hidden ones along with a the Booty Bay / Thousand Needles quests were the last keeping me from the achievement!

This wasn't readily apparent to me, but only the whelps work for this quest. I tried the quest item on the larger dragonkins for about 10 minutes before realizing that I should be targeting the whelps for this quest.
