Mother's Milk

In the heart of Blackrock Spire you will find Mother Smolderweb. Engage her and get her to poison you. Chances are good that you will have to kill her as well. Return to Ragged John when you are poisoned so that he can 'milk' you.

Milked

Description

It's probably one of the most potent poisons in the world, <race>!

I've overheard the Blackrock speaking about its lethality in my jaunts into the Spire. They call it 'Mother's Milk', named after Mother Smolderweb, the big nasty spider in the Skitterweb cave.

Now here's what I need from you: A live sample of the Milk, flowing through YOUR veins. Just bringing me the gland won't be enough! Get her to poison you and come back to me!

Then... I get to milk ya!

<Rubs his hands together in anticipation.>

Reward

You will receive:
Ragged John's Neverending Cup
Also, you get: 1 80

Progress

<Ragged John pinches you.>

Completion

This is gonna make the best ale yet!

Eh, what did you think I was gonna use this for? Poison or something??

Crazy kids...

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
 • 995 experience (59 70 at max. level)

You *do* have to leave the instance to get the quest done. You would pretty much have to set up a group specifically for this quest. Have the mage make a portal to IF, then head to Burning Steppes and complete it. Otherwise, no one else is really going to want to hang around and wait while someone heads to Steppes unless everyone is there to do the quest. The little spiders also drop an item that clears the ""snare"" effect.

This quest is actually soloable as a Rogue - that's how I did it back in the day. The key is to get to a position where you *only* aggro Mother Smolderweb (as you're coming up the first ramp, the very far right corner should work I think), then have her attack and poison you. If you are lucky enough, you can do this before she kills you (evasion might help here, I assume you can't dodge the poison effect). Pop a vanish, get to safety, then hearth the heck out of there. (setting your hearthstone up near Burning Steppes helps)

A Druid can also probably do this if they can hibernate her after they get poisoned.

It's been a LONG time since I've done this (basically not long after the game came out), but I can't see how it wouldn't still be possible.

Yes, it is still possible to solo the quest as a rogue this way. I just did.

A good spot to aggro Mother Smolderweb and to hearth out afterwards was the far corner, I found.

One word of warning, though: I died once because I simply didn't notice that she had already poisoned me.
I had already come here to post a frustrated entry about how I had held out sooo long and still died unpoisoned before I thought to check my combat log, where - right before I used blinding powder, so I must have been fairly down but still in the first half of the fight - it actually said ""You are afflicted by Mother's Milk"". So there it was, and I hadn't seen it. - Quite apart from the fact that the poison shows as a bright green icon where all the poisons and spells you have on you are shown. Duh.

Anyway, in the next fight, I left my combat log on and kept a constant eye on it.

So, if you're as blind as me and tend to ignore your debuff icons, you might want to go into this fight with your combat log open, as well.

-----------

By the way, while you're stealthing through the Spire, this quest can easily be combined with the two pet quests given by https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=10260 Kibler: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4862 En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4729 Kibler's Exotic Pets.

Just make sure you complete the two pet quests first - I recommend to take all your clothes and weapons off while you do, since you need to stealth around a lot and might die a few times before you have all the eggs and the Worg carrier. THEN, when you're done with those, go back to Mother Smolderweb, put your clothes and weaponry back on, wait for your Vanish to cool down and engage her.

Few tips:
* The macro ""/s Don't cleanse me please"" seems to help
* Having you hearth in Shat can cause for long journeys
* Remember to loot her.
* Remember, pallys, that large cliff jumping + bubble (to avoid fall dmg), also results in cleansing your poison. (ahem).

Keep these and mind and you shouldn't have to do it more than once... unlike others >< .

Wow, this is a toughie! We solved it by taking turns hearthstoning OUT of the instance after being poisoned and completing the quest before being summoned back in. Our comrades continued killing spiders and worked up to the last phase of the spider section (where there were lots of eggs to be had for the returnees doing the egg quest).

The side effect of being webbed is abated when you are mounted on your ride or in flight.. I also don't recall being webbed while on board a ship (we didn't think to reset our stones to a more convenient escape point)- but it made up for that once I landed.. I think I go webbed six times in rapid succession!

I was the lowest level char in our group and had never been to BRS.. the others were impressed that I was able to noodle (or is that doodle?) a solution.

Fight well!

If you're thinking of soloing this quest at level 80 for loremaster you might want to think again. I tried a couple times just sitting there and letting her wail on me. Every time she cast the poison I resisted it. After about 50-60 casts of the spell I finally just gave up and abandoned the quest.

Seems being mounted prevents the net from being cast. Too bad we can't mount inside the dungeon...

Be warned: if you're doing this quest with other people in your group, the random web explosions can get to be VERY annoying. The snare lasts 10s and you might go close to 30s just standing around while 3 or more people's debuff procs.

For Death Knights if you don't mind going and making a sandwich it's fairly simple to use your Death Gate. It's highly unlikely that any DK has bothered to learn an anti-venom high enough to ""help"" you, and it's a direct flight. It just takes a long, long time...

The dungeon finder system added in patch 3.3 has made this quest extremely easy. Just go to Ragged John at Flame Watch, get the quest, join the queue for LBRS, and start the dungeon. After your group kills Mother Smolderweb, hit the ""Teleport out of dungeon"" button. Talk to John, have him ""milk"" you to complete the quest, and teleport back to the dungeon. Two minutes, tops.

Obviously, this only works if you're doing the quest at the appropriate level. And if queue times are long on your server, you might not want to sit in one place and wait for the LBRS queue to let you in, especially if you're dps. But if you want to get this quest done and waiting isn't a problem (if you're a tank or healer, or if you have a bunch of quests to do in the Burning Steppes while you wait, or if you just don't mind) then this quest is now much easier than it ever was.

Still struggling to complete this quest. I am an 80 undead rogue and I have let me hit her for a good 30 minutes. No poison yet.

For what it's worth, I am facing away from her so every attack hits me, however the poison still does not proc.

After about 20-25min of no luck getting poisoned i looked at my talents and since the mother's milk poison is a spell I changed spec to combat since my assassination spec had heightened senses that gives spell a 4% added miss rate. After i changed to combat I got poisoned after about 1min.(probably a bit of luck to, but at least i could finish this quest now)

I just did this quest for Loremaster as lvl 80 Ret Pally. I had to strip down to no weapon and down to about 10k hp (which might have been 3 pieces) and just punched the spider til I got the poison. Prior to trying that I just stood there and kept resisting. Also, if you're a lvl 80 pally trying this for Loremaster or w/e make sure that you dont have your ret aura on (you could eventually kill the boss without even attacking her).

Finally got this!

Not sure if I just got 'lucky' or if this really did do it, but a user above mentioned not having heightened senses activated, so I went to my PvE spec, but I noticed 'master poisoner' had a 50% reduction of poison length. I went and just removed all of my talent points and went back to her, literally within 10 seconds of the encounter I was poisoned.

Level 80 rouge in full season 8 PvP gear.

Hope this helps another rogue!

For me, as a level 80 rogue, switching to combat spec AND taking off most of my gear finally did the trick! She poisoned me within the first 15 seconds of the encounter :D
After I killed her I stealthed out of the instance and was only webbed twice. Once you're mounted you won't get webbed anymore but you'll get the occasional ""You are mounted"" appear on your screen. Good luck everyone!

For low-level characters (Or rather, level-appropriate characters :p), you can easily complete this quest if you want to, without much inconvenience to your party. However, it takes some planning. Because you can teleport to and out of a dungeon in progress from the dungeon finder, and it returns you to your location when the run started, you can queue for LBRS and exit the dungeon when you get the debuff, if you queue at Flame's Crest. Then you can quickly turn it in and jump back into the dungeon, in less than a minute or two.
