Provided Item:
Mudsnout Mixture

Description

A mudsnout composite? Absolutely brilliant! Why didn't I think of that?

Let me contribute my colloid of decay to this devilish brew.

In order to activate the contaminating agents in this mudsnout mixture, Lydon is going to need a strong troll's blood potion, as well as some daggerspine scales and torn fin eyes from the southern coast of Hillsbrad. He'll know what to do once you've gathered him all the reagents. And my, how anxious I am to hear how his experiment goes!

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
High Apothecary Cloak
Meditative Sash

Progress

So glad to see you back, <name>. I was growing so terribly bored here. Not a single entertaining thing to do besides poison and disease Umpi and reanimate her. . .over and over and over again.

How went the trip to the Undercity? Were you fortunate enough to slaughter any humans along the way?

Completion

The excitement of this experiment has me feeling giddy! You have been such a great help, <name>. Together we will spread death and disease to this land!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 305 experience (18 30 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Undercity

my advice is to do this quest with the fifth quest of ""battle for hillsbrad"" ( https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=539 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=539 ), as those torn fins as near the mine which you need to clear for battle for hillsbrad - you will be running around for battle of hillsbrad often enough, here you can save yourself one way.

I found everything at the locations posted above, and soloed it as a lvl 28 druid. I had to use guerilla tactics though and comb the coast in sea lion form and pick out the ""stranglers"". I terrorized the beach for over an hour because the drop rate was so low...

Make sure you attack the group dropping the torn fins eyes who are directly south of the fields. They're lower level and seem to have a slightly higher drop rate than the others around them. I went up and down the entire coast hunting everyone, and even though one group having a higher drop rate than another might not be possible, it sure seemed like it to me.

The first poster is right, just buy the troll's potion off the AH - you should be able to find the amount you need for under 1 gold.

According to Wowhead, Daggerspine Screamer (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2370 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2370 ) and Daggerspine Shorestalker (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2368 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2368 ) have almost twice the drop rate (13% compared to 8) of the other naga, and are in the 28-30 range. However, it's still aorund eight naga per scale, with the obvious degree of luck added in. Roughly, my drops were as follows: 10 mobs, 1 mob, 1 mob, 10 mobs, 2 mobs. Now to the murlocs!

I just swam down river from Tarren Mill to avoid all the annoying teddybears, creepers and cats and as soon as I got to the ocean I found Daggerspine Shorehunters and Sirens (67% and 23% drop). Then just headed over the Southshore harbour and found Torn Fin Oracles and Tidehunters (great droprate, 100% for the Oracles and 75% for the Tidehunters). Then up the river again and I was home - quick and easy!

I have no idea if the drop rate here was changed, or if I was just extremely lucky. I stuck to the Naga and the Murlocs that are very close to Southshore. I had no problem at all with the drop rates. I barely got around the initial curve on the shore and I had finished gathering the Daggerspine Scales. The murlocs are a bit annoying, but that's their nature :) Got them quickly, as well.
I'm hoping for everyone's sake that they improved the drop rate. If not, I'm certainly pleased that they dropped so quickly for me.

Happy Hunting!

i found the troll's blood is really difficult to get. it's really expensive in AH, and I couldn't find an alchemist that sells it. i killed so many of the naga and the murloc things, but none of them dropped it :( i took up alchemy as my second profession in hope i can make it :( :(

I can't seem to get the troll's blood anywhere... none of the vendors seem to have it, and nothing in AH either. QH says it's at 67.68, 39.21 in Undercity... but its not there... anyone have any hints?

As of today 28-8-2011, i came to find faranell to turn in the daily fishing quest and i find this one in the dialog window.
The word [DEPRECATED] surprised me, because i thought that it was unobtainable quest as wowhead says but it seems that this is not the case for me.
I accepted it normally as any other quest but i didn't go to hillsbrad foothills to see if i am able to complete it.
