Target: Writhing Haunt

Go to the Writhing Haunt in Western Plaguelands to locate and defeat the Cauldron Lord present there, and use its key to gain access to the cauldron. You must have the Empty Writhing Haunt Bottle with you to secure a sample of the poisons used inside the cauldron.
Writhing Haunt Cauldron Key
Empty Writhing Haunt Bottle
Provided Item:
Empty Writhing Haunt Bottle

Description

Two cauldrons have been successfully opened; while you will be able to access them indefinitely, we still want to open up the other two that remain. This will provide all of us with more options to introduce the counter agent!

This time, you'll be hitting the Writhing Haunt's cauldron. It is almost due east of Andorhal, relatively close to the ruined city walls; again, eliminate the cauldron lord present there for its key. Use this bottle to obtain the sample from the cauldron.

Good hunting, <name>!

Progress

An access panel to the cauldron remains securely fastened. In order to open it, you will need to find the key.

Completion

The cauldron lord's key unlocks the access panel to this cauldron and then disappears, much like the other keys have for the previous ones you've dealt of. A putrid smelling substance churns violently beneath the platform of the cauldron.

There is a small spigot that the bottle fits well enough under, allowing you to draw a sample for Shadow Priestess Vandis back at the Bulwark.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 565 experience (33 90 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Argent Dawn
  • 250 Reputation with Alliance

These quests can be dreaful. The respawn rates on the Cauldron Lords sometimes gets so high that you don't have time to loot the Lord, kill the adds, and complete the quest. Be careful and don't waste time.

Other than that, it isn't hard. As a hunter, it's extremely easy. Go over to 53,66 and kill the Lord, deal with the adds quickly, and then loot the Cauldron.

Best way to approach the Cauldron is from west. I had to kill 2 skelies and Lord Razarch to finish this quest.

Some of these mobs have a -10% Hitchance disease for 10min which is a pain in the ass for a Warrior since they can't dispell the disease and I couldn't kill the big ""boss"" with this disease on me so I had to wait for 10min. Then all the mobs had respawned and I had to start over again. This forced me to press ESC -&gt; Quit for tonight...

As a 52 level protection paladin, this might get a bit tricky.

The Freezing Ghouls are nightmare for a 52-prottie. They hit hard, are considerably higher level than you, thus meaning missing and resisting alot and not blocking that much. Also, taking down two or more at a time is impossible due to the fact that they use 3-seconds freezing spell which disables you fully, unallowing block-procs or anything. Even 2 of them are able to nearly stunlock you.

The Cauldron Lord himself was not much of a trouble, just toss in your prottadin shield and pull back carefully, and when he gets close enough, just finish him off, he is rather weak, even for a prottadin.

I did this as a 55 Demon Warlock with my Felguard and he tanked and we killed him in under a min. He looks invisable but when you get near him and pull agro he pops up so watch out. He summons a skeleton and you pull agro off of another ghoul. When ever I got the key I went to the thing and did not pull any agro!
