Target: Gahrron's Withering

Go to Gahrron's Withering in Western Plaguelands to locate and defeat the Cauldron Lord present there, and use its key to gain access to the cauldron. You must have the Empty Gahrron's Withering Bottle with you to secure a sample of the poisons used inside the cauldron.
Gahrron's Withering Cauldron Key
Empty Gahrron's Withering Bottle
Provided Item:
Empty Gahrron's Withering Bottle

Description

The last cauldron that remains is located on a farm now called Gahrron's Withering. It is guarded by some of the Scourge's tougher minions - specifically, wraiths and ghosts. They are not to be trifled with, <name>.

Gahrron's Withering is far to the east of the Bulwark, close to where the Eastern Plaguelands begin; again, eliminate the cauldron lord present there for its key. Here is your empty sample bottle; bring it to me filled. May the shadows cloak you in safety for this dangerous mission, <class>.

Progress

An access panel to the cauldron remains securely fastened. In order to open it, you will need to find the key.

Completion

Cauldron Lord Soulwrath's key disintegrates as it touches the lock on the access panel at the base of the cauldron's platform. A slight clanking noise is heard within, and the access panel swings open to reveal more viscous toxins within the cauldron's framework.

There is a small spigot that the bottle fits well enough under, allowing you to draw a sample for Shadow Priestess Vandis back at the Bulwark.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 620 experience (37 20 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Argent Dawn
  • 250 Reputation with Horde

This quest is not too hard, most are single pulls, you will have to watch out for the cauldron lord's cast. Also melee's might have some trouble with this. If you die, you will probably have respawns.

Just be careful as the respawn time for the mobs is very short

This quest gave me 250 reputation with the Undercity and 500 with the Argent Dawn at level 58 in patch 2.4.2 (I believe).

What a pain to solo as a paladin. Granted, I was only lvl 54 at the time, so most of the things at the farm were orange to me. I few words of advice,

clear the west side of the cauldron/farm and pull the cauldronlord however you can (I used linkens boomerang and/or mana tap on the add). Kill the add first (in my case it was a caster). this can prove a challenge because whenever you use a spell with a cast time the cauldron lord loves to silence you. the silence hurts and lasts for a brutal 5 seconds.
Do your best to kill the add and if you can still kill the cauldron lord consider yourself lucky. Between the level difference, miss/dodges, and the silence, I had to run back after a death and solo pull the keyholder, and even then I had to bubble once.

Overall, wait till you're yellow to these guys to save yourself the grief.

It is also worth mentioning, the ""fetid Zombies"" (which you can recognize by the green clouds surrounding them) Absorb most of your spells, or interrupt them somehow, So casters beware!

I was there as a lvl 55 mage and Even when Shielded with ice barrier (so I wasnt getting hit) I would only get halfway through any of my casts and it would suddenly finish and my combat text mod told me that the zombies had interrupted it. Combined with being frozen by some ghouls all the time there, this is a fuuuuun quest :p

Soloed as 53 rogue, mob was red (level 58) and had an add of level57 when I pulled. Survived with 20% and cooldowns used. Horde needs more WPL quests!

Tips for casters: there's a fallen tree log/branch near the northern side of the field which you can climb, and attack mobs from there. Since the other end of that branch doesn't touch the ground, those spirits will run all the way around to the opposite end, climb it and come to you, which saves quite some time. And if you slow them down enough, they might not reach you at all. Just don't come very close to the branch's tip, or you'll be attackable from ground.
This way you can clear pretty much the whole northern part of the field.

You want to make sure you're in the right area for this part of the quest. I spent quite a lot of time killing freezing ghouls and fetid zombies and such, and these mobs are in the Writhing Haunt. You need to go to the next area to the east where there are a bunch of ghosts. If you don't see wraith-like ghosts, you're in the wrong place!
