Curing the Sick

Use the Curative Animal Salve on 10 Sickly Deer that are located throughout Darkshore; doing so should cure them. Sickly Deer have been reported starting south of the Cliffspring River to the north of Auberdine and extending all the way into southern Darkshore where the edge of Ashenvale begins.

Sickly Deer cured (10) [Apply Salve]
Provided Item:
Curative Animal Salve

Description

The amount of salve made out of the reagents you brought me is good enough for ten doses, <name>. While I work with the village to try and make some more salve, I'd like for you to help us get a head start. All around Darkshore are sickly deer; use the salve on them and cure their malaise.

Dendrite Starblaze in Moonglade will want to talk to you when you're done, I'm sure. Please extend Auberdine's thanks to the Cenarion Circle there... and let me say thanks to you directly for the help you've given!

Reward

You will receive:
Veildust Medicine Bag

Progress

Have you completed what was asked of you by Alanndarian Nightsong of Auberdine? Your work is not complete unless it is.

Completion

You have done well in tending to the sickly deer of Darkshore; they are unwitting victims of a greater taint and corruption that is spreading all throughout the land. There are those in Darnassus who choose to recognize this threat... and there are those who ignore the growing signs. I hope you will not be one to put blinders on about what facts stare you in the face, <name>.

Regardless, you've proven your worth as a friend of nature and the Circle - take this as a symbol of such.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:

Just walk up to a deer surrounded by a green cloud of ""sickness"", click on him, and then click on your salve icon which you should have dragged to your hotbar by now. The deer are pretty much scattered all along darkshore.

If you're even more morbid, or perhaps looking for an excuse for the blatant murdering of innocents, the cured and strangled carcasses are also skinnable. Your cursor doesn't change when you hover over them, but if you right-click they still get skinned. :)

If you are doing this the proper way - be warned. If the deer wanders out of range while you are casting a spell, it still uses a charge. Since there are only 10 charges on the salve, and you CAN'T get another one, even one muckup means you have to abandon the quest and start again.

Doing class quests that in the end reward a class ability or spell will result in exp gain that suits your current level while doing them.

Doing this as level 14 is not the same as doing this as higher levels, the quest level will always be your own level so the exp rewarded will be high, on 70 you will get around 12500 exp since thats the normal rate for level 70 quests. If you dont feel like doing the quest on your level, feel free to skip it (like me) but complete it later on for a little exp boost!

For this quest chain: on level 32 I got 2000 exp per quest and for the final quest I got 2700. (Reputation gained seems to remain the same since 2.3)

As of the 2:nd Dec 2009 this still works, missed one with second to last one, don't know why, but for the rest it worked, tangle and apply. What a time saver. Will edit about the patch number, for now i can't keep em all in my head.

Edit:Lol it says, 3.2.2

I dont mean to copy this but this is from mariosau and i would like to say that it still works in patch 3.30, thanks mate<div class=""quote"">A little disturbing, but you can do this to finish the quest faster:
-Cast entangling roots on the sickly animal
-Use the Curative Animal Salve before the damage from the roots kills it
-Wait for the animal to die, you'll get double credit

This way, you only have to look for 5 of them

All I want to say is that this is a stupid quest. Come on, of course I know the benefits of being able to cure poisons instantly! Not everyone has time to find a cure while you're fighting a boss 10x larger than you amirite?

Confirming this still works as of 3.3.3. You have to make sure to quickly root and heal because it seemed to not work if I was slow at using the salve after rooting the deers.

I was going to say you can cure a deer while in Travel Form, but after reading the above, I'll say instead that you should watch out for Thistle Bears if you alt-tab out to write a post on Wowhead.
