Satyr Horns (16)

Description

Heya! I've been traveling through Ashenvale, heading towards Ratchet, and decided to make a stop here at Splintertree. I'm always looking for an opportunity, and it seems that satyr horns are in high demand in Ratchet these days.

After asking around here, it seems that the satyrs in Night Run, Satyrnaar, and Xavian all have the type of horns I am looking for. I'm no match for those satyrs... but you look like you might be!

Tell you what, you collect the horns for me and I'll make it worth your time.

Reward

Also, you get: 20

Progress

I hope you can be quick about getting those horns, <name>. I'm heading back to Ratchet soon!

Completion

These are perfect, <name>! Thanks for helping me out!

Oh, and this is for your time...

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 210 experience (12 60 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Ratchet

This is a great quest to do along side Warsong Supplies, as you have to kill Satyrs to get to the Warsong Oil

The satyrs casts a curse called ""Curse of the blackheart"" wich I think is a pain in the ass, because it's stuns you random times for 3 minutes :(

There are also Satyrs in Night Run, around 67,50. Not sure if they actually drop the horns or not since I found them after dying many times in Satyrnaar. The ones in Night Run around 25-27 level range, much closer to the level of the quest.

Yes, the droprate is low, the first 10 i killed in satyrnaar did not drop, but then got going about every 4 after that...good for grinding though, i ended up getting several thousand xp just staying there for an hour

Curse of the Bleakheart - Lasts 3 minutes

Causes a debuff ""Chest Pains"" which last for 5 seconds.

Chest Pains...

-causes 21 damage
-stuns you for 5 seconds
-has no internal cooldown or diminishing returns
-can chain proc back to back causing 10 seconds of stun, sometimes even 15 seconds of stun
-happens at the worst possible times

If you cannot remove curses, be prepared to be stunned right before a heal goes off that will save your life. Be prepared to be stunned while trying to open a chest, failing 5 times because it stuns you before you can finish opening. Be prepared to be ganked by an alliance and be pretty much helpless while the curse stun locks you from fighting back. Be prepared for mobs to run away from you at low health and you're stunned and helpless to stop them from getting friends.

Also to note while stunned, you cannot dodge/miss/parry/block so your health goes down a lot faster especially if you have multiple mobs on you.

It's an evil evil evil curse and blizzard is the devil for adding it to the game and making satyr horns drop 1 per 10 satyr :-/

My only advice is to try and singlepull, and if you get the curse on you just go hide somewhere for the duration. It's much faster than dying to multiple mobs.

This takes ages and as a Rogue, the curse which inflicts chest pains is well, a pain.

Good XP though, if you can get into a rhythm and not die too much.

Be careful as a mage. They have a magical-effect debuff that silences you, which they can apply as many times as they like given they live long enough to do so. As mage, if you see them begin to cast it (you will hear it actually, not see it, as there's no cast bar for it), Frost Nova and run back.

This has been one of those quests in the game that I have always hated doing. Today I finally found a way to make this quest as well as obtaining Warsong Oil. Today I stumbled upon an area I hadn't known about called Night Run, in Ashenvale. The Satyrs there are level 25/26, seem substantially easier and don't have the curse that stuns you (most annoying thing in the game). I recommend anyone pulling their hair out over this quest to try out Night Run, it made my questing experience stressless.

20% drop rate on level 25-26.

That's on average 80 mob kills to complete.

That's a lot.

Also, 80 mob kills for 175xp each (at level 25) means a total of 14000xp + 2100 from the quest.

That's more than half a level.

There are three locations of mobs you can kill for the quest. Either the stun curse, the full heal or the silence. Up to you to choose. The silence mobs are 25-27 and the easiest ones to kill, even though droprate is 20% instead of 30%.

Be warned...the drop rate (at least of the ones in Night Run) is atrocious. I had to kill at least 50 before I got the 16 horns.

OK, for this quest, there are 3 Satyr camps you can go to. Satrnaar, Xavian, and Night Run.

If you can dispel curses, like mages, go to Satyrnaar

If you don't use magic, like warriors and rouges, go to Night Run, because the special ability of the enemies there is a 6 second silence

Everyone else, go to Xavian. The enemies there have a full heal they cast at low health, but it is easy to either silence or out DPS their cast or stun them.

Reading all the comments above you may feel discouraged, BUT the quest can be done easily in Night Run if you're a melee class. In Night Run satyrs don't cast Curse of the Bleakheart, nor the annoying full heal. They just cast a silence spell, that can easily be interrupted if you have the ability to (or you can let them cast, since rogues and warriors won't be affected).
Yes, drop rate is lower, but it's all good xp. Finally, Night Run is hard to reach so you don't have to worry to be ganked on PvP servers.

If you're a melee class that doesn't rely on spells, I recommend going to Night run at 66,54. The mobs there DO NOT cast the curse that weakens your heart, they only give you a debuff that prevents spells. The pulls are easier, they aren't grouped together, and they still drop the horns.

MUCH easier than the other spots, if you're a melee class.

Keep in mind the drop rates are thrown off by people killing the satyrs when they don't have the quest. Satyrnaar and Night Run have much lower rates than Xavian; I've gone to Xavian every time and from my mob info data on several characters there that actually had the quest, 1/2 of the kills have dropped a horn.

Also, the heal they do is easy to handle; most classes have either some form of burst dps or an interrupt. No annoying silence or chest pains.

I cant really find out what you think is so hard about this quest - I soloed it as a 26 mage (frost) in less than 20 minutes, I was located at the Night Run spawn and ended up with like 60 wool cloth, 3 greens, 20 silk cloth and other things worth quite an effort. I recommend doing this quest if you're a frost mage.

A tip: When they try to use their silence, jump away (they are only able to use the silence at melee range, that means you kite them when they try to do the spell).

Hope thist post was to some help.

Seems like this quest is a whole lot easier after 3.0. Did it today and had 100% drop rate on the horns and did not get the old Curse of the Blackheart at all. That used to make this quest a royal pain for any melee types. Was a breeze this last time.

Absolutely horrible drop rate in Night Run, which is the level you're most likely going to be taking this around. If you can't handle a lot of mobs higher than you are, you're going to want to stick here--that is, if you even want to waste the time.

For completion's sake only. No worthy reward, no follow-up, and the drop rate is -horrid-. I've killed the entirety of Night Run's population twice and I have about nine so far. Utterly ridiculous.

Can't help but to not get the logic in quests like these. I mean, all satyrs have 2 horns. And this quest giver just asks for ""satyr horns"", not pristine ones, or only horns in ""splendar condition"", just horns. So why is the drop-rate so low?

Well, it's because Blizz want's you to kill y amount of mobs for x quest items. But just a simple swap in the quest text, and the quest item from ""satyr horn"" to ""pristine satyr horn"" would give it much more sense.

Killing Boars without livers, murlocs without heads, nightsabers without fangs, and owls without feathers is, to be frank, a bit lame.

Yes, i know i'm picky of small and unimportant things.

Just did this on an alt, and 1 of two things happened. Either I was extremely lucky, or blizz has upped the drop rate. I believe I got a 100% drop rate to get 1 from each satyr in Satyrnaar.
