I recently 2-manned this quest as a level 27 fury warrior working with a 28 feral druid. The druid started off in cat form, but found it was necessary to switch to bear form early on in the fight due to the amount of damage being dealt to us. He did need to switch to caster form to lay down a few heals during the battle, though if you have a group of 3 or more, healing probably isn't necessary for this fight.

After you place the banner, two Enraged Foulwealds (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12921 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12921) will spawn. If you're on the ""totem mound"" where you placed the banner they'll attack you, otherwise they'll attack the banner and eventually destroy it if not attacked. After a while (or once the first are dead, I'm not sure), another two will come. Expect a lot of angry bears and no chance to rest!

Eventually Chief Murgut (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12918 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12918) will spawn who, if you've survived so far, shouldn't give you any problems. Have fun :)

Just got done doing this quest as a 33 Undead Holy Priest, with fair gear and solo. I proceeded in a different light, knowing I would not be able to take on wave after wave of mobs, I took out mobs one at a time to make a path to the mound. Once on top, I took out as many mobs that I could before planting flag. After planting flag I started fight with first wave, killed a few and then used Psychic scream to shew off attackers. Ran up the path to regain health and out of danger, then came back to see the chief trying to take down my flag. Singled him out and fried his butt in the previuos cleared foreground area. Took my totem as the spawnees were coming back to life and ran!!! Mission accomplished.

Actually, Murgut spawns on a timer after you plant the banner. There will *always* be two furbolgs to fight.

My advice, don't kill any of them. If you can cc, do so. if not just bring them to near death and save your mana and use your cooldowns judiciously until Murgut spawns.

Then kill the two quickly, kill Murgut - profits!

A nice trick about this quest, the basket Murgut drops (which contains the totem) can be looted by anyone who has the quest, even if they were not in the group who killed Murgut.

I showed up once 3 or 4 min after some other group did the quest, the basket was still there so I simply looted it and was done :-)

Also confirming this; any class with a reappliable CC can solo this, and I'm sure others can too. I just did it solo as a 25 mage (the ""normal"" way, with a 28 rogue, ended in disaster after I ran OOM and his health ran low). I figure some simple strategies would be a nice addition.
I also noticed while doing this quest that, at the path just out of the area a few paces north there is a log, and if something goes wrong, you can go up the path and jump onto the log pretty easily - this will evade both mobs, and unless you can get back quickly and get them off the banner, it will die... but you won't!

When Murgut spawned, unsure that it was a consequence of the mob being at full health, but one of the two mobs I was fighting despawned.

Mage - this one's obvious, and it helps (a lot) if you're frost. The two mobs will spawn, sheep one of them, and kite the other. Rank 1 frostbolt is your friend; it slows, and can proc frostbite. Use debuff timers if you have them so you don't waste mana. I recommend bringing at least a lesser mana pot.

Warlock- this one's obvious too, just abuse fears. Make sure the local area is completely cleared or you're in for some bad news; keep out a voidwalker just in case, for the extra tank and for a sacrifice. I recommend fear juggling using rank 1; try not to spam it too much or you will run oom, but don't aggro extra adds! Alternatively, you can use your VW to tank both of them and just spam health funnel and bandage.

Rogue - trickier, but doable. I couldn't do this until 28 on my rogue, which lessened the mobs beating up on me (and also saved me on the boss.) Don't pop evasion until the boss spawns; if you can sap at the beginning, do it, and crippling kite the other. If you want, put crippling on both hands, but at least have it on your main hand. My suggestion would be to abuse the log at the top of the path; kite one down, evade it back, run to the totem and restart. You may need to blow sprint on that, but that's fine. With gouge and crippling, you shouldn't need it to escape.

Warrior - not sure if this is doable; bring a health pot. Try to keep hamstring up on both mobs, and when your health dips below half, use your fear and bandage. Worst case, you can run to the log, evade them, chase them back, charge one of them, then tab -> swing or thunderclap to get them off of the totem. It's not a problem here if you kill them as a side effect of the kiting, just don't drop too much health.

Hunter - incredibly simple, really. Try to keep one spam trapped, and have your pet on the other. Make sure that your pet has all of its non-growl spells OFF autocast, to keep the mobs alive. It would also help to have your pet have aggro on the trapped mob, so between casts you won't get hit, and you can continue spamming mend pet. Then you can distracting shot -> trap the add, and repeat.

Unfortunately, I'm in doubt that a priest, paladin, or shaman could solo this. A druid might be able to, but it would be very hard, and you wouldn't need a guide if you can pull that off.

Druid lvl 24 - easy going:

1) Don't use thorns
2) Kick in the flag and start pummeling one foe until he has like 10% of his HP left, then the other one.
3) Stay around the flag and heal yourself for the next 90-120 seconds, I think. Your mana should be fine
4) When you see the ""boss"" coming, use thorns and quickly finish off the 2 foes
5) Kill the lvl 26 noob and you're done, very easy :)

soloed as a 29 undead shadow priest

made sure touch of weakness was on both enraged furbolgs

mind blast and mind flay to get them both low on health

I then used psychic scream, when the furbolgs get back power word: shield.
By the time the shield was down psychic scream was ready again

Keep up inner fire and use renew as needed.

When boss gets there finish off the 2 near dead ones and kill the chief.

When I finished I had almost no mana left, you might wanna bring a pot.

Just solo'd as a 24 Enhancement Shaman, not brilliantly geared, no potions, no used items. I can confirm that the Chief is till on a timer of about 2.5 minutes, as my totems went down a little before he appeared. I went as follows:

1) Buff yourself up (You can use lightning shield, but don't renew it). Plant totems (I chose strength of earth, healing wave and searing to begin with, then used stoneclaw to allow me to focus on one mob at a time).

2) Plant Banner.

3) Bring the two enraged furbolgs to 10/5%, then cut your DPS. You may think ""Oh god! Now I'll die!"" but they can be successfuly kited around the mound using earthbind totem, allowing you to regen mana and use Lesser Healing Wave to top yourself up.

4) After 2/ 2.5 minutes of the banner, the Chief will spawn. Immediately drop the two furbolg and focus on him. While he doesn't hit that hard, you may be low on mana, so check yourself beforehand.

5) Profit. (Don't forget to loot the basket!)

What I dwowhead:1,id:

-Cleared immediate area. Don't have to clear people too far away from the mound.
-Had void out, feared adds for quite a while (just two of them).
-Fought them, got them down quite a bit of health (20-30%), feared them again
-Had void kill one, when he died Murgot showed up. Void died, sac'd him and killed Murgot and the remaining add while shielded.

If it's on a timer, just fear until Murgot shows up. Bring plenty of pots if you have lowish health or mana. I never had any trouble with my mana though.

Anyone with a range weapon can win this easy. Just wait till they attack the totem, range 1, then range the other. Run up the hill to the road and they will run back just before you reach it to attack the totem again. Make sure your paying attention and are right on their heals so when they start attacking again you can repeat. Then after about 2 minutes or so when the Boss comes they will dissapear if youve timed it right and they are full health & not in combat with you. Kill the boss, very easy by himself and take your loot.

just made it with my lvl 26 Rogue.
Crippling Poison on both weapons is essential. Plant the banner and stealth to sap one of the two mobs that spawn. Then hit the other one and kite him 'til sap breaks. Kiting two mobs is just a bit harder, depending on your poison proc rate. one sinister strike, then pop slice and dice up and try to apply the poison to both targets, then run around the hill. when both mobs are poisoned and your health is down, use bandages. Using sprint can help kiting or save you when your HP are low and one or both ob the mobs aren't poisoned. it's best to keep evasion for the boss and a healing potion at hand.

When trying this taktik, I missed my first sap target and aggro'd a pathfinder that forced me to use vanish - still had no problem doing it.

Easily soloable by most any class.
Taking the two initial mobs to low health causes them to run very slowly. You can kite them for the few minutes before the king spawns and then just finish the two off and restore your health and mana before attacking the king.

P.S. The king is also kitable to the road, so if you happen to agro unwanted mobs you can kill him anywhere and he'll still drop the totem.

This is easy for Warrior.
Here's what you do, and what I did;
I'm a level 27 Tauren Warrior and I did this alone.

Okey you start off by
 • Kill all the nearby Foulweads in the closest area to the totem
 • Plant the flag on the hill
 • Two Foulweads will come for you, make them go after and follow you, strike them
 • Don't kill them, then start running around the totem ground in a circle (passing the small fires, just outside of the totem)
 • Keep running without trying to hit anybody. The Foulweads will follow you, if they hit you, just use war stomp, wait, and then keep running around in a circle, waiting the Chief out
 • After about 3 minutes, the Chief will come, when he does, just start pounding away with everything you've got, retaliation on that chief, use a health potion at this time if you need to, Rend him and kill him, don't mind the two Foulweads beating you while you do it
 • When you've killed the Chief, it doesn't matter if the two others kill you, the lantern with the quest item will still be there when you resurrect
That is how you do this quest in an easy way, as a Warrior.

Just did it with a lvl 23 Enc ""Shaman"" , the trick is to have Water shield and Stoneskin totem up , and heal urself with Lesser healing wave while you wait for the chief. bring the adds down to 100 HP(using Auto attack , you need to save ur mana here) , then when chief comes , blow the adds with a FireNova totem. and then taking chief alone is rly easy.

This can be easily solo'd if you just mess with the 2 mobs at the start. Don't kill them yet. Just engage them so they're after you, run away until you're out of combat, run back and stop them from destroying the flag, repeat. After 3 minutes or so, the chief comes and just stands around. So take care of the 2 mobs, eat and drink, then kill the chief.

I planted the banner, immediately stealthed and headed to almost the bottom of the south side of the hill (i stepped back because of the aura? that these two have that can bring you out of stealth)... anyways stand near the bottom. When they get to the top of the hill sap one. you can only keep one sapped at a time but it seems that they just stand there for a few seconds after coming out of sap. So just alternate the sap between them until the boss appears. The two mobs dissapeared for me at this point, i down the boss in a few seconds and bam. hope it helps someone.

My tactic was:

1) I planted the banner.
2) I waited until the first two Foulwealds came, then I jumped onto the barrel.
3) The Foulwealds attacked the banner and then disappeared with the banner.
4) I repeated step 1 and 2.
5) I waited until the Foulwealds disappeared and then Murgut came.
6) I jumped down from the barrel and killed Murgut.I tried this a few times but it apperently didn't work, but I found out a much much easier way to do this.

1) Plant the banner on the top of the hill.
2) Jump up on the barrel thing to the east.
3) 2 mobs will spawn, they will go evade since they now can't attack you.
4) Wait. After 3 exact after you've planted the banner Murgut will spawn.
5) What will happend now is the hard part. The 2 mobs will despawn, and Murgut will start running away. What you need to do is to attack Murgut after the 2 mobs has despawned but before he has despawned himself.
6) Kill him. it's just one lvl 26 mob.
7) Loot the green glowing totem.
8) Turn in the quest.

Edit for clearify.
