Witherbark Medicine Pouch (4)
Shadow Hunter Knife

Description

Archmage Malin sent Skuerto and I here to collect reagents for him. I was at a loss as to how I was going to collect the items, but now that you're here, I think my problem's solved.

I need the following: Witherbark tusks, Witherbark medicine pouches and a shadow hunter knife.

Could you find those for me? The Witherbark live to the southeast of Arathi.

Reward

Also, you get: 75

Progress

Have you had any luck so far, <name>?

<Kryten makes some notes in his journal as he reads.>

If my research is correct, the tusks should come from any Witherbark troll. The medicine pouches come from the Witherbark witch doctors, and the strongest of the Witherbark shadow hunters should carry the special knife given to them after they've completed their rites of passage. There's no way to tell which shadow hunters will have the knife until you do battle.

Completion

Incredible! I can see why Malin asked you to come join us - very well done indeed!

At this rate, Skuerto and I will be headed back to Stormwind in no time at all.

I believe my dwarven companion is back from scouting Boulderfist Hall; go speak to him when you're ready.

It looked as though he might have had a bit of a scuffle with the ogres. Don't mention that to him, though; he's very sensitive about criticisms to his skills at scouting.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 350 experience (21 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Stormwind

The Tusks drop off of any of the NPC's around the lake , even the Witch Doctors.
Medicine Pouches drop from the Witch Doctors around the lake.
The knife drops off the Shadow Hunters in the cave at: https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2557 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2557
The map is for the NPC's but the location is the same.

All of these are 33-36 level and are fairly simple kills. for the amount of experience on this quest this is one you don't want to bypass. good for the grinding aspect and the quest exp.

4350 xp as from 2.3

Medecine pouches also from witch doctors in cave - which may be more efficient as you need to go there to get the dagger.

to find the cave, find the two stone Snake sculptures on the south shore, walk east about 20 yards past the next stone cube (there;s onlu one) and make a hard right, follow into the hills.

As said above, very profitable quest. Miners should try to go kill mobs that are the nearest of the moutains for iron, silver and tin veins. And maybe even gold.

I would advice not to finish this quest too fast nor optimize it if you're interested in Silk Cloth and/or ores. First get the tusks off the concerned mobs, then get the pouches, and finish by going into the cavern for the dagger. This way you'll spend more time doing the quest, for sure, but you'll kill more mobs and so get more cloth and with a bit of luck you'll encounter more mineral veins.

The tusks and pouches dropped fairly quickly for me, but I spent almost 2 hours killing shadow hunters with no knife drop. I dropped the quest and moved on. It may not be worth your time.

I would suggest not going too far into the cave as these mobs respawn pretty quickly and patrols are everywhere in there.

The knife dropped on the first shadow hunter I saw so that was easy. The tusks dropped off any mob, but the headhunters didn't drop quite as often as the trolls and axe throwers about 50% of the time. The medicine pouches was pretty hard. Pretty low drop rate. Good luck!

For a quick solution of this quest, immediately go inside the gave where you find https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5040 Shadow Hunter Knife. Inside the cave you will also find trolls that drop https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4503 Witherbark Tusk 20 and https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4522 Witherbark Medicine Pouch 4.

The cave entry is hidden between some small mountains, at first it might be hard to find but near the water is a trail that leads into the cave. The cave entry is confirmed at 68, 75.

In my opinion this quest is worth it. Enough XP and a nice XP bonus from the quest reward. Worth the time.

Solo'd this as a level 32 arcane mage with a few engineering toys... The cave part was hard. The shadow hunters pack a punch when you're 32, and the drop rate was quite low. I killed 14 before I got it... Whereas, the tusks dropped from just about every Witherbark Healer outside, and I got all 4 bags from killing 10 witch doctors.

Also, I received 350 reputation with Stormwind when I completed this quest.

solo'ed at level 34 rogue. No real threat as mobs are far enough apart not to aggro and if they do get close then you can sap and attack.

Only thing to watch out for is if one goes running when about to die and dies near others then it brings a swarm of them. Also they have an attack that blocks your stealth for 2 mins.

Not many chests from them and money in pockets ranged from 50c to 1s 10c.

Parts of this quest can be done just west of Refuge Pointe - handy if you've also go ogres on your shopping list. The tusks will drop from just about any troll you slay.

https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4503 Witherbark Tusk 20 and https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4522 Witherbark Medicine Pouch 4.

You probably won't get the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5040 knife here though. There just aren't that many shadow hunters about. To get it, head to the SE corner of the map. The cave you're after is just south of Witherbark Village, roughly <pre class=""code"">[68, 74]</pre>Not too taxing for characters of level 34 up, and a fine excuse to grind for silk just west of Refuge Pointe.

I never did mind fighting Ogres. I tend to know where they are. The smell usually gives them away before I see them!

Witherbark Village is a good place to grind if you need XP. The trolls aren't too hard to take down, the area isn't TOO crowded and the mobs drop plenty of silk. There's also lots of ore around since it's near a mountain and cave.

This quest was very easy and very enjoyable as a lvl 36 Rogue. Getting the tusks and medicine pouchs are easy. Just kill the mobs lurking all around the village. Then simply go into the cave, marked on your map as a small grayish blur , and get the shadow knife from one of the creatures inside. Remember if you're a Rogue to sap a lot of them and pickpocket them. They very frequentely drop chests with interesting stuff inside and you also get a fair amount of silver without doing any actual combat. :)
