Blue Pearl (9)

Description

The Badlands is a harsh place, filled with vicious predators and bold scavengers. Scary, especially for a short little goblin. To survive, I have to be tricky!

I know the recipe for flash bombs. I use those to scare away wildlife. But I'm running low on one of the ingredients: crushed blue pearl powder. Get me some and I'll make it worth your efforts.

Heh, and I hope you have good boots on. The Blue Pearls I need are found from clams at the Vile Reef.

Yep, the Vile Reef in Stranglethorn!

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Flash Rifle
Flash Wand
You will receive:
Flash Bomb

Progress

Did you get my pearls? I'm almost out of flash bombs!

Completion

These will work great! I just need to smash them into powder...then mix them with a little of this and a little of that.

Watch out, scavengers! Prepare to be flashed!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:

You can pick Blue Pearls (in Stranglethorn Vale [STV]), even if you don't have the quest. If you quest in Stranglethorn Vale, I suggest you to get the 9 of these Blue Pearls before leaving to Badlands.

Its at the Vile Reef and you find them in giant clams around 25:23. They are located in a large area and there are loads of Murlocsl. The murlocs are lvl35-36 elites and gives nice xp.

If you aren't an undead or a warlock, do yourself a favour and get an Elixir of (Greater) Water Breathing. This quest is annoying as hell without any form of underwater breathing :)

If you stick to the outer edges around the ""cliff"" you can avoid the Murloc's for the most part.

That's where I found mine (note: some are very close together therefore not allowing me to do a full nine loc's) and I only had to kill 2 Murloc's.

Here's a list of 9 locations in case you're having trouble finding them:

25, 24
25, 25
25, 26
26, 26
26, 27
23, 27
24, 28
26, 31
27, 29

Now, obviously there are other spawns. These are just the spawn locations I noted while gathering.
Be sure to look under environmental objects. For example, there's one that spawns up top toward the end of a bridge, but there's also one that spawns right under the bridge as well.
Most of these spots require no or minimal fighting.

Happy Pearl Diving!

One of the most boring quests >.<
If you don't have infinite breath / water breath / aquatic form , etc. it will be very annoying ! Lucky I was a shaman otherwise I would've quit..

If you have the gold to spare, make sure you check the AH before diving into this quest. The pearls go for around 1g on my server and that's a good time/money investment ratio for higher levels running around on an alt.

Just to vent as others dwowhead:1,id:

Have a 68 priest alt, 375 engineering and decided I should go get the schematics that I missed.

THANK GOD I had the reward from some earlier quest for underwater breathing for one hour..... I was down in the Vile Reef swimming about 50 minutes looking for these godforsaken clams! Check under EVERYTHING, and the clams are spawned at random locations, so don't depend too much on coords posted!

I ended up swimming up and down the side of the ""cliff"" to find the last 6 I needed (yes SIX) for my last 10 minutes. Worked out great.

There's a reason carbonite doesn't put a large splotch of color and uses just one dot for clam location: because the spawn is so random!

Just a note for those not interested in every spawn spot. Ya know the deep sea crevasse that runs through Vile Reef. Found 'em all right there, no coords, no carto, no prob!

I found the best way to complete this quest was to stay some distance from the rocks so that I could easily see underneith them. Clams were few and far between (maybe someone else had just been there and looted) and spawns were slow. I didn't kill any mobs, just picked off the clams that were closest to the surface.

And as others have mentioned, don't forget to breathe, not going up for air is bad for your health...

If you're following QuestHelper (like I was), you are collecting https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4611 pearls from the https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=2744 Giant Clams in the area, not from killing the murlocs.

When hunting the Giant Clams I found it easiest to stay high above the spawn area looking down at the sea floor. It also helps to drop ground clutter density to zero and view distance to high to make the Giant Clams more visible. Can find the 9 you need for the quest in under 10 minutes.
