Collect 10 Shadowshard Fragments from Maraudon and return them to Archmage Tervosh in Theramore on the coast of Dustwallow Marsh.

Description

I've recently begun testing various crystals and their arcane properties. Lady Proudmoore has given me leave to ask travelers heading into Desolace to seek out a place called Maraudon. Within the ruined temple are great elementals composed of purplish stones I've named shadowshards.

If you decide to head that direction and find some of the crystals, I would be very thankful. I could even fashion you a trinket from them if you so desired.

Progress

Have you made the trip yet? I realize it'd be quite dangerous, but if you were successful, it would very much be worth it.

Completion

These are perfect, <name>. I actually had other adventurers return from there also and from them I was able to fashion these... please, feel free to take one for your hard work. And thank you again for more samples to study.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:

In other word, just kill the big rock guys before the instance portal.

Very easy to complete this one. Bottom line, if you're going to Maraudon, there's no reason not to pick up this one. You're going to HAVE to kill a few of those elementals anyhow. I got 3450 EXP at level 40: certainly nothing to complain about.

The droprate is 100% when you have the quest.
Each drop can be picked up by the entire party, you don't need to kill 10 per party member.

As of patch 2.3 you gain 7200 experience when turning quest this in.
As of patch 2.3 you gain 500 reputation with Stormwind when turning this quest in.

To get the shards ( which are 100% drop rate ) you need to kill the Rock elementals outside the Purple side entrance of Maraudon.
The purple side is the one on the left when you go down outside the instance

This quest counts toward Loremaster of Kalimdor

I think where some of the confusion is that there are two instance portals where you can enter the dungeon. People go the wrong way and do not realize it since they find an instance portal.

After entering the doors from outside you will go down a set of stairs, a set of ramps, and another set of stairs, turning right the whole time. When you get to the bottom of the second set of stairs, you can go right (orange crystals), straight (a couple of statues), or left (purple crystals). Left is the way to find the Shadowshard Rumblers. There are rock elementals to the right but they are a different name, very few in number, and do not drop the shards.

Since the dungeon finder tool ports you directly into the instance (not outside it where the fragments actually drop) you'll have to go to Desolace and run to the instance to complete this quest,
