All newcomers to the Valley must first complete the rite of battle.

You will receive:
Frostwolf Insignia Rank 1

This quest is given by Warmaster Laggrond in the Alterac Mountains at 62,59. I would recommend a group of at least 3 for this quest to be completed effectively.

Once you enter Alterac Valley, the entrance to the Wildpaw Cavern is located at 52,89. Once there, you need to fight your way in to retrieve a Frostwolf Banner (https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=179025 https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=179025) for the quest.

The banner itself is located at 50,93, deep inside the cave. There are many mobs spaced closely together around the level of 52-56, so it is very possible that you will be pulling 3 at a go.

NOTE: Watch out for Alterac Yeti (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=13959 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=13959), a level 61 elite wandering the cave.

The reward from the quest, Frostwolf Insignia Rank 1 (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=17690 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=17690) allows you to port back to Frostwolf Keep once every 2 minutes.

This trinket is upgraded as you gain reputation with the Frostwolf Clan.

Neutral: Rank 1 (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=17690 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=17690)

The surrounding mobs are level 66-68 in the level 61-70 version of Alterac Valley, three is standing near the flag and you'll have to fight them at once. Bring a friend, or a potion, if you are playing a class that can't heal yourself. The wandering Yeti is level 71, he hits for ~1500 on leather, so keep your eyes open.

I just did this myself as a 70 holy priest. I wasn't able to work my way down to the flag before the BG ended, and the 3 pulls were a struggle for me. So, the next time my lengthy que came up, I ran down through the tunnel and into the flag room and died in a corner. There is no durability penalty, and when I rez'd I was able to pull the 3 around the flag one at a time.

To get to the flag room, you go straight into the cavern until it drops down. You then go to the right, and then another quick right. This passage goes straight back into the flag room.

even if you dont want the trinket, this rewards you a good amount of gold. having done this at 70, i got 7g 59s for the first turn in and because I was already exalted with frostwolf I was able to get the last one. in the end, it netted me 50-60g after the turnins

I tried as prot @ 51pre-lk, and got wasted pretty badly. Now that heirloom items and stuff are out, it's probably much easier now.

There's a pack of 5 level 58-59 mobs guarding the banner, and you can't take the banner while Bubbled (getting ""you can't do that while invulnerable"" )

You can't get weapon skill in the cave anymore, but you can get defense skill up, I went from 200 -> 250 pretty fast running in that cave.

Edited for corrections. I was also kinda mad when I wrote this so long ago :>

I just solo'd this quest as a 66 Affliction Warlock. Of course, everyone in the 61-70 bracket is too busy telling you how long ago they finished the quest to actually help you complete it. So, a few failed battlegrounds later, I finally mastered the art. I assume most classes with mass CC could use this method (i.e., Priests with Psychic Scream, potentially a Frost Mage's Frost Nova, etc.)

Basically, just zerg rush into the entrance of the cave. Rush straight between the two big groups on your left and right, fire off a Howl of Terror (if you have it on instant cast) once you've got a group behind you, fall off the ledge and head right. You'll come across a narrow passage with a couple decent-sized rocks against the right wall in the center of the passage; try to die as close to those rocks as you can. Once you're dead, release, and don't resurrect at the graveyard. Run back to your corpse in the cave, and try to resurrect by that rock, preferably closer to the entrance of the cave, and hug the wall. Check ahead of you to make sure you won't aggro the knoll that's standing farther back in the passage when you resurrect.

Now, there's a gnoll that patrols the ledge immediately above the rocks I'm speaking of. If you keep an eye on him, you can resurrect just as he's walking away and you'll have plenty of time for a Voidwalker before you make your second zerg rush. Not at all necessary to summon a Voidwalker here; I didn't use one for the entire run. Just make sure he's far enough down his partol that you don't aggro him when you resurrect, or it will screw up your second rushS bigtime.

Once you've resurrected, catch your breath and rush straight down the passage, and take a hard right. You'll see the banner in the back on the passage, on an island in the middle of a frozen pond. The gnolls will likely kill you before you get there, so just die close enough that you can resurrect on top of the banner. Die again, and make one last corpse run, making sure your mass CC is completely cooled down.

As soon as you resurrect, gather up the five gnolls in the area of the banner (1 on the island, and 4 around it), try to get these as close to the center island as you can, and fire your CC. At my level, Howl of Terror lasts for 8 seconds; I was able to loot the banner in what appeared to be 6 seconds. So, I had about enough time to fire the CC, jump on the island and loot. So, even with lower-rank Howl of Terror, you should be able to take the banner with just barely enough time to spare. Just be careful not to do this too close to any of the groups beyond the icy pond, or you risk grabbing an add and spoiling the attempt.

So, assuming you don't mess up, you can easily get this banner in 3 deaths, assuming you let the gnolls kill you the last time rather than escaping. Try to do this as early and as quickly as you can; if you Allies capture your graveyards in the south and your team is already up north, you could end up running the length of the instance back to your corpse in the cave. I attempted this a few times and didn't even have a change to finish my attempt simply due to the fact that the game ended too quickly. It may take a few instances before you get the cave down, but once you do, you should have no trouble.

Good luck getting your Insignia!

He is right they did move everything around a couple patchs ago. The new cave is around 52,89. No not the entrence cave for the horde but it's a bit south of it. Almost could pass as a waterfall but it's not it can be kinda tricky to get there but once you find the place you'll slap yourself in the head cuz it's that easy.

It wasn't that hard. I did as a 60 BM hunter. You just have to skulk off and hit the cave. The mobs don't hit too hard and you should be able to get in pretty easily. Also instead of fighting my way back out, I just let myself get killed and rezed in the gy. All in all a pretty straight forward quest.

Just completed this quest today as a 70 MM hunter. This quest is worth the little bit of time it takes, as it rewards a significant amount of gold and rep with Orgrimmar. Like others have said, I was 999/1000 Exalted with frostwolf before even picking up the quest. After you do this quest, A new quest opens up at each reputation level. (instantly if you are maxed exalted)
1st Quest - Rank1 Insignia, 7g59s, 250 Org Rep
2nd Quest - Rank2 Insignia, 7g59s, 250 Org Rep
3rd Quest - Rank3 Insignia, 7g59s, 250 Org Rep
4th Quest - Rank4 insignia, 9g48s, 350 Org Rep
5th Quest - Rank5 Insignia, 11g40s, 500 Org Rep
6th Quest - Rank6 Insignia, 11g40s, 500 Org Rep

Total Rewards at 70 from first quest to last.
55g5s
2100 Org Rep.
Not bad for 15 mins of work.

As an aspiring priest working my way though the world I had a horrid flash back of when I had to do this on my paladin. Not all the bubbles and Lay on Hands could have helped me then. So I was surprised how easy it was on my poor cloth wearing self when all it truly takes is a few things.
 • Two runs of Dying and running back, rezzing as far from ones body is possible.
 • In the Chamber there is an Evade bug spot behind the small pillar in the far left side, going behind there will usually cause the gnolls to evade bug
 • Any form of shield will do, pop it and start grabbing the flag as long as you do not take damage you will loot it fine.
So for priests use PW:Shield, Mages can use Mana Shield, and I'm sure Warlocks could use Sacrifice Voidwalker.

So even clothies have hope at early levels.
TL;DR: Doable as a lv 51 Priest

One of several ""scaling"" quests which grants more exp as you level up, instead of less.

For example, most quests are red at one point, turn orange, yellow, green and then eventually gray as you outlevel it, and slowly decreasing the amount of exp you earn. This quest starts out yellow, and remains that color no matter what level you are. As such, it grants a gradually increasing amount of exp depending on what level you turn it in which is seemingly based on the amount of exp a ""typical"" yellow quest at that level would give.

8460 exp @ level 51 with the 20% heirloom exp bonus
8820 exp @ level 52
9120 exp @ level 53

For those without coords, Wildpaw Cavern is the cave located on your minimap to the immediate southwest of the cave you enter the battle in. Quest was easy to complete as a lvl 84 hunter, or at least would have been if I hadn't bumped in to a certain elite yeti on my way out.
