Description

Who says that the undead don't know anything about cooking? Take my secret recipe for Turtle Bisque, for example. I've known folks that would come back from the dead just to enjoy a bowl! Heh, heh...

Speaking of which, I haven't been able to make any lately. I used to head over to Lake Lordamere myself to hunt snapjaws, the nasty things, but I can't pull myself away from my work here.

If you bring me some Turtle Meat from the snapjaws and soothing spices, I'll show you how it's done!

Progress

Any luck finding the ingredients? I'll tell you, the alliance maggots are far too numerous in this area now... In my opinion, they have come far too close already...

Completion

My soothing turtle bisque will keep you warm on a cold night... if you care about that kind of thing.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 250 experience (15 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Undercity

Once again Bliz has set up an easy quest... Just grind the turtles on the river to the east... if your really lazy take the Flight to Undercity and check the AH for the items this quest needs... I received the recipe and sold it on the AH for 2g.... You can get the Soothing Spices from the Trades Goods Seller.

This quest can take some serious time, as the Turtle meat likes to not drop alot. but sometimes there is a chance it will drop more then 1 at a time off the snapjaws up the river, so just be patient.

You can find the soothing spices from the Trade Goods merchant in the northern most building in Southshore.

I got the meat for this in Thousand Needles. At the north end of shimmering flats the turtles are in camps much closer together than in hillsbrad. They are yellow so they don't aggro, making this also a nice grinding spot.

Tauren Warrior - 35 @ the time of turn in.
Cooking skill @ 99/150

The Shimmering Flats is a great place to level 32-33. Accept all the quests at the race track then move counter clockwise from the quest givers in a full circle. Kill EVERYTHING you see. One of the side effects of this is an abundance of turtle meat. Finish there, then go to Arathi Highlands, pick up and turn in this quest along the way for an easy 2500 exp!

FYI (cause I haven't seen it listed) HORDE SIDE: Get the spices form the bloke who gives you the quest.

You just need to have cooking. Your skill does not mather.

I was standing in front of Christoph Jeffcoat and could not take the quest.

Went to Undercity and just learned the cooking skill, and then I was able to pick up the quest.

I did this quest on my lvl 80 warrio today, i started with lvl 171 cooking.

During the process of getting all the Turtle Meats, i also got a few Tangy Clam Meats from the thick shelled clams that drop, enough to get my cooking up to 175 with Goblin Deviled Clams so i could learn the Turtle Bisque recipe.

Easy drop rate, just run up and down the river killing them 1 at a time (in 1 hit if you can burst dps and are 80)

Soothing Spices aren't needed anymore for the quest, and neither for the recipe.

Managed to get the recipe today as a Level 25 Mage. =D Persuaded a level 80 DK to do it for me. Already had 90 Turtle Meat on me so it was just a matter of picking it up and handing it in. =) I had 255 Cooking when I picked it up so it didn't get me very far, but it's still quite a nice recipe to have. ^^

I would just like to confirm for anyone wondering that Death Knights ARE able to take and complete the quest and you only need to have level 1 cooking to do it. This is useful for anyone who wants to get it earlier than level 28 because there are hundreds of Death Knights who probably do not have this quest completed and are willing to help. Enjoy! =)

Couldn't get the quest even though my cooking is almost 200 on a level 67 character.
Just never appeared.

Pretty obvious, but does not count towards Loremaster.

Today when trying to do this quest the build-in Blizzard questhelper send me the wrong way towards the north-west. Be careful about this and don't blindly follow the questhelper.

Turtles are in the river along side Tarren Mill. Meats are 100% drop rate, sometimes 2 meat per turtle.

You must have cooking learned (skill level of 1 is fine) to obtain the quest. If you still can't get the quest, you did it before and probably sold or destroyed your recipe.

Just a heads-up for any mages wishing to do this quest or its alliance equivalent...these turtles seem to have a fairly high resistance to frost spells. Did this on a 30 frost mage and was having maybe 75% of my frostbolts/frost novas resisted. Still doable, but annoying as all get out.

However even tho this quest does not count towards Loremaster, it does count towards ""The Seeker"" achievement . :)

For the Turtle Meat you can get it while doing the quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1105 Hardened Shells.

As far as opening the quest, you need to be at least a Cooking Apprentice. Once you get that, it will open the quest. So, if you are in Tarren Mill and do not know cooking yet, fly to Undercity and the Cooking trainer is right in the middle near the Bank. Get cooking, then make Spiced bread with Mild Spices and Simple Flour all right at the Trainer. Learn apprentice then fly back to Tarren Mill. You may have to buy some meat from the AH to get you the 10 extra points.

If you are Alliance, fly to either Ironforge or Stormwind.

Hope it helps.
