You should be able to solo the quest without too much trouble. The hardest part is being able to get to a good place to find a doomguard captain alone.

They are to the south of where you get the quest. It would be a good idea to get a Voidwalker out now. If you have an epic mount you can just ride though all of the mobs without too much trouble. Be careful though, those guys hurt and can hit for over 1000 damage, and if you get dazed you are pretty much done for. Try to stay as far as way from them so you dont get hit as you pass them. Find a good place where you can just aggro one captain alone. Send your voidwalked in and just start using the item, your Voidwalker will probably die by the end, but by the time he does you should be done using the item.

Also after you finish using the Prison you need to pick up the item that is right next to corpse or else it won't give you credit for the quest.

You get the materials to make the ""prison"" that holds your Doomguard.

Completed the entire quest line solo at level 66. There's a Doomguard Commander near 34.0, 63.0 that stands surrounded by a wide circle of Felguard Elites, they stands far enough from each other that I aggroed none of them. Send in your most capable tank minion on the commander and wait a few seconds to build a bit of aggro. With a little luck, he will waste his warstomp on your minion, if he does, don't waste a second and start channeling the prison. He won't do enough damage to kill you and only his stomp can interrupt. If he casts his rain of fire, you're home free as it lasts long enough to guarantee he won't stomp you until you're done!

Keep in mind that none of the Felguard Elites around him can be enslaved - they are all immune, and it's a long corpse run to learn that lesson.

I remember doing this at level 60 before the expansion came out, was very easy with the old Spellstone, i was very surprised when i got the commander on the first try.

All you gotta do is summon a Void walker, sacrifice him, then summon a new one, then start channeling at max range, when the shield runs out, sacrifice again, and when he did Rain of Fire i just used the spellstone to dispell it.

And i was in blue dungeon gear, i actually even used the off hand for a while.

Is there a practical use for the doomguard - or is it just a toy for warlocks to unleash in capitol cities for fun and destruction?

This final part of the quest to get the Doomguard is a bit of a joke.

I went at level 68, with a 70 Rogue there to give me backup. We were worried I might need heals based on the quest text.

I brought out my Voidwalker and sent him in first. Once he had cast his first Torment I threw a Suffering on for good measure, then began channeling the item. To my surprise, it only had a 15 second channel time (I was expecting it to be much longer). The Doomguard Commander did not immediately switch targets to me, it took him several seconds. When he did, I sacraficed the Voidwalker to make sure I was protected when he came to me (since Sacrafice is a pet spell, it won't break the channeling). My Rogue friend then stunned him once, and when that wore off he walked towards me just after the channeling finished, and shrank into his captured form.

Very easy IMO. I could have soloed it with the Void shield I think, but my Rogue friend's stun was a great help.

I did this at roughly 36,68. If you go south by the 2 and climb to the top of the hill to your right, there will be one near the right side cliff that only has 2 dreadlords near it. If you send your walker in and run to the opposite side of him, away from the dreadlords, and start the channel it will not aggro any additional mobs.

Pain in the butt to solo at 71 as affliction. Voidwalker shield would make the quest pretty trivial, but even the two lone doomguards to the south will invariably aggro at least one other demon, and they won't stay banished for more than 10 seconds or so. Using VW sacrifice and taunts, I got the doomguard imprisoned with 200 health left, and ran back to the quest giver. Can't wait to try it out now.

Just soloed this as a level 80 warlock. The Doomguard himself is easy as hell. The Felguards however, do an INSANE amount of damage for their level. Seriously - it took me 3 goes as a level 80 just because of how hard they hit me. Crazy.

Why does everyone keep saying ""this quest was easy"" and ""this quest was a joke"" while trying to solo or duo it at 6-10 levels higher than the recommended level (with one exception)? That's not exactly the best way to gauge a quest's difficulty...

If you do it closer to intended level of 60, you'll realise that it's nigh un-soloable. This is because of the tremendous amount of threat that you'll put out just using the prison, which will immediately pull attention away from even a Voidwalker and straight to you.

You either need a tank with great threat generation or a healer if you want to do this at the lowest possible level. I soloed it at level 62 with some powerful buff food, though I suspect potions elixirs will be helpful as well. I dropped Fel Armor for https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=11735 the old-fashioned armour spell, and used my Voidwalker damage shield. I suspect Demonology with its defensive bonuses and Destruction with its built in damage reduction might have some minor advantage here, while I (as Affliction) used my Life Tap-boosted Corruption spell for minimal healing. Died just as the Doomguard Commander was taken.

By the end, I'd resurrected and re-tried it so many times that my armour broke once and after repairs, went mostly yellow.

EDIT: Up-rated the post below me... if only I had known about potions/healthstones not breaking the channelling, gah!

I was able to solo this quest in level 62. Needed a few tries though...
The trick is to find a place you can pull the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12396 Doomguard Commander alone, without puling the adds around him.

You can use the channeling effect from the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=18601 quest item to pull him.
Then you send your https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=697 Voidwalker at the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12396 Doomguard Commander, and use https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=19443 sacrifice.

You should notice that the use of Healthstone, and Healing Potions DON'T break the channeling! You should also use whatever food buffs and elixirs you have, as well as https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=11735 Demon Armor in order to increase your HP, HP regen and defense as much as possible, as all other stats is unimportant.

I just soloed this @ lvl 63.

A few things I did.
I switched specs to demo for this to make it a little easier. You should pick up these talents to help

Demonic embrace: For the extra stam

Fel vitality: For the extra stam

Demonic Brutality: Increases the effectiveness of your VW shield (You will need all the help you can get)

Demonic Aegis: To increase your armor and healing effects. I used demon armor to lessen the incoming damage from the attacks.

Soul link: To reduce damage another 20%

After you pick those up you can switch to which tree you like. I went with moten skin in the desto tree and then jumed over to afflic tree and picked up siphon life.

After all this head over to the area where the Doomguards hang out. I picked the first one I saw. I got to a decent spot between the Felguard elites and the Doomguards and summoned my VW. I mana'd up and made sure I had a pot and a Healthstone ready. Then I soul stoned myself. (make sure you cast soul link its not automatic.)

I sent in the VW and pop a life tap and corruption on him for a lil extra healing and waited until he casted rain of fire. Then I started channeling the spell to cap him. He (Should) finish casting RoF before coming to you giving you a lil bit of time. As soon as he aggro's you and hits you once pop your shield. once that is down pop a health pot if if you haven't capped him yet you should still have a healthstone.

Things to note.
A random Felhound came from nowhere and starting beating on the VW good thing he picked it up.
The elites around the Doomguard all aggro's at about 5 sec left into the spell. So I don't know if they do that or I was just unlucky. I died right after I cap the Doomguard so I waited for the Felguards to leave and the use the soul stone. click the lil crystal left behind and gratz you have a new play thing.

Hope this helps good luck.

Soloed as a level 65 Demo lock. The hardest part wasn't the actual channeling on the mob, but running off all the others I aggroed on the way south.

I summoned void, used shield, waited 10 seconds, then started channeling. They have may have nerfed this quest, I don't know, it just seemed so easy after reading all the problems people have had. That or I have extremely lucky.
