Ancient Equine Spirit

Acquire special horse feed used for feeding a spirit horse. Merideth Carlson in Southshore apparently is the source for such food.

Travel to the Dire Maul dungeon in Feralas and slay Tendris Warpwood. Doing so will free the Ancient Equine Spirit. Feed it the special horse feed, thereby soothing the spirit. Finally, give it the Arcanite Barding so it may bless it.
Arcanite Barding
Manna-Enriched Horse Feed
Provided Item:
Arcanite Barding

Description

Your barding needs a special form of blessing, one from an appropriate spirit. In Dire Maul is such a spirit, the Ancient Equine Spirit. It is currently held by a corrupt treant, Tendris Warpwood. Pass judgment upon this foul beast, <name>.

Know this - freedom alone is not enough. You must soothe the spirit before receiving its blessing. For that, special horse feed is needed. Travel to Southshore first and speak with Merideth Carlson on this... and prepare for more sacrifice.

Progress

The Ancient Equine Spirit looks at you expectantly, as though it wants something from you.

Completion

The Ancient Equine Spirit accepts the offering of the Manna-Enriched Horse Feed, nuzzling the container as it helps itself to the special oats and grains. After it has eaten a little, it looks at the barding you possess and positions itself as though it wants you to place it upon its back...

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 495 experience (29 70 at max. level)

Duo'd this with a 60 druid while a 60 Holy Paladin (37/14/0). Be sure to kill all of the patrols in the courtyard just before Tendris Warpwood's room so he will have no reinforcements when he calls for them. A challenging and long fight. Max hit on me with Devotion Aura up was around 900. Druid healed only when absolutely necessary and went bear form if she stole aggro until I could regain it. I had to shield twice during the fight to bandage.

To get the feed, you'll need to complete the Manna-Enriched Horse Feed quest first, given from Merideth Carlson (52,55) in SouthShore.

If you have a higher-level character and a friend who is willing to group with you (doesn't need to go with you), you can solo this quest by putting your Paladin just inside the door and clearing the patrols then Warpwood. The equine spirit will come out regardless of whether you're on the quest or not. Log off of the other character and switch to the Paladin and run in. The equine spirit will still be there.

Make sure you have about 50 gold and 20 Enriched Manna Biscuits from Chillwind Camp in order to get the Manna-Enriched Horse Feed. You'll get it from the stables in Southshore. The quest link for the feed is https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=7645 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=7645

I soloed this quest with my 64 prot pally last night. It was close, got down to 2% of health twice. I though I was dead, but two critical hits in a row saved me.

Solo'd it with 61 protection pally. If you don't have the key, just get inside Dire Maul west, die and enter Dire Maul East. Here's the map https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=2557 https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=2557
Kill all the patrolling Ironbark Protector's first. Try to pull 'em one by one, if possible.
Then head for the boss, he's not as hard as everybody says.

OK. Solo as 61 protection pally.

Yes, you must kill the patrols in the first room, but you do NOT need to kill the stationary mobs.

I used seal of light, blessing of wisdom, judgment of light, and righteous fury. be patient. keep hitting him and heal at 50% health... just in case you get interrupted when he tosses you in the air. I did not even need to bubble... but note that I was running low on mana at the end. Be careful not to use too many attack spells that are high in mana, or you could get in trouble. Other than that, this really isn't that difficult.

Lastly, you'll need the crescent key to get in. He's in dire maul west.

Ok , just solod this one as a 60 ret paladin.

1st kill all the patrolling guardians outside.
2nd make sure you have all cooldowns availible.
3rd pray for good luck!

My setup was BoK, Seal of Light and concentration aura (didnt do much use) and 35Ap buff and 12 dmg on wpn sharpening stone :D.
I had rage Rage reaver from outlands along with some other outlands gear. I had 4700 hp.

Tactics was to keep Hp up so spamming Judgement of light, Crusader strike and Divinestorm (for art of War)
was essential. I also tried to keep consecration up and exorcism as often I could. I never stopped and healed
so the concentration aura was to no use. I used lay on hands when low on hp and divine shield when low on hp to heal
up. I also popped one mana potion. I had 23% crit chance but still had a lot of luck with the crits for art of war , and make sure you use art of war as soon as possible though not when you've full hp. I managed to survive with about 7% hp spamming hammer of wrath, and all abilities at the end of the fight.
This was my second try and I would have given up if I had died but I barely made it so.. Its is possible.

Good luck with this one!

This quest chain, along with the Blood Elf equivalent and Warlock mount quest chains, have all been removed from the game as of patch 4.0.1. Sadly, even if you had the quest in your log as of the patch, it was deleted. The trainer is now your only option for earning your epic class mount.

Most likely this is due to the massive changes in the levels for the associated zones and dungeons in Cataclysm.
