The core frament is a rock at the end of the cave on the Molten Bridge (at the entrance to the Molten Core).

After completing the https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=169243 7 dwarves, take the path which leads Southeast. On the other sie of the bridge you will see the core fragment.

Counts towards Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms!

Quest still exists and is needed (to use the portal) after Cataclysm's launch.

I did this 5 years ago on my druid and I'm still attuned in Cata, so if you did the quest it's still good.

Directions on getting there (without swimming through the Lava, I always got lost doing that).

Enter BRD. Go left through the wrought-iron door which is now permanently unlocked. Open another wrought-iron door to your right. Then open another steel door in the wall, just ahead. This should take you into the Garrison.

Operate a big mechanism in the garrison room that you're in. Then go up the flight of stairs, hang a left, and follow that passage until you come to the Manufactory. There is only one way out of the manufactory, and it leads to the Grim Guzzler.

In the Grim Guzzler, buy Dark Iron Ale from Plugger and turn all of it in to Private Rocknot. Then go stand by Phalanx, a small event happens and Phalanx opens the door. Exit the door that he just opened and go left, and left again. Pass ambassador flamelash in the Chamber of Enchantment to the left. This should take you into the Mold Foundry, a big place with forges and golems.

There's only one way out of here, and it leads to the Chamber of the Seven. Talk to the ghost, defeat 7 ghosts, and exit the chamber through the door that just opened. The next passage will have a right turn almost immediately; it's easy to miss, but leads to a molten bridge with sets of 3 fire elementals. (If you reach the lyceaum you went the wrong way. ) Past the fire elementals you'll see a large green raid instance portal, and the Core Fragment should be in a glowing rock just next to it. If you're in a raid group, you won't be able to see or pick up the fragment.

I hope that helps. Though it would have been more pertinent 5 years ago, maybe now that I've typed it and passed it on, I can get the useless information out of my brain!

HOW DO I GET INTO BRD?: Get the quest from Lothos Riftweaver and enter the instance. BRD is a little hard to find but if you really don't know where it is, it's the doorway next to Lothos's tiny room. Enter that doorway and go right and you should see some stairs into a zone with Dark Iron Dwarves working called ""The Grinding Quarry."" I usually look for a large nut/bolt looking rock on the right, and turn right between the large nut/bolt rock and a flat table looking rock down a hallway. This will be ""The Masonary."" At the end of that hallway I go right into the instance.

NOW I'M IN BRD, HOW DO I GET TO THE CORE FRAGMENT QUICKLY BY SWIMMING?:

EDITED FOR 4.0: The mole machine has been added. Click ""just past the Grim Guzzler."" You will be transported to a half circular balcony above a bridge with some rooms up ramps behind you. On the bridge, you see Lord Incendius. Jump down onto the bridge, kill him, and then jump into the lava WEST of him. Swim NORTH to the first island (there will be fire elementals on that island). Swim to the second island (same thing, fire elementals on it). Keep swimming North, and swim under the bridge which is like a metal grate with fire elementals roaming around.

IS THERE AN ALTERNATE WAY TO REACH LORD INCENDIUS? If you a different route, use the ""Dark Iron Highway"" (which is accessed via the gate on the left, straight ahead, and when you see some Dark Iron pats and a fire elemental, you will go to the right. You don't need to pull any of the little mobs if you are careful. So if you look up at the end of this large hallway, you will notice the rock walls pictured are the same as the loading screen. Past the gap in the rock walls you enter ""Shadowforge City."" You will see a bridge and fire elemental guards. Keep walking down that bridge until you see the boss Lord Incendius (who is standing by something called The Black Anvil). Then, kill him, jump to the left side (West, if that is easier for you) where you came in, swim to the edge of the lava pool and you'll see an island you can stand on (no need to pull aggro), then swim to the next island which is very close. Looking north, you should see the bridge, fire elementals and a ramp under the bridge.

I SEE THE MOLTEN BRIDGE, WHERE DO I GO? When you see the bridge, you will see one or more rock ramps. This zone is called ""The Molten Bridge"". The quickest way up is right under the bridge but don't panic if you went around. The Dark Forge, where you smelt Dark Iron, is located on the bridge metal framework and you'll see a fire elemental by it. Anyway, you are going to go up and around until you turn left and you see 3 fire elementals. Kill them. Past them there are 3 more fire elementals but you can just zerg the core fragment with a quick cog click (no cast to interrupt) and jump through the Molten Core whirly entrance. You should be notified you are in Molten Core at this point (may need a raid to jump thru the portal). If you simply exit the way you entered, you'll be right at Lothos. TURN IN or you may forget you have it.

HAIRBAND, YOU TALK TOO FAST, COULD YOU BREAK IT DOWN A LITTLE?

OLD ROUTE:

1. Enter the instance. You will see some NPC's. Ignore them and go left to a gate. Open it.

2. Past that will be a large open hallway leading to another hallway. The zone here is ""Dentention Block"" but if you go straight, where you will see Dwarves on patrol,dogs patting, and on the right a brazier. This is called ""The Dark Iron Highway."" Go right. I usually jump around the brazier and just frogger my way past any mobs patrolling.

3. Looking up, you will see the ugly faces of the rock walls in the loading screen for BRD. The doors are open. Just walk on through and past the fire elementals standing on a bridge until you get to Lord Incendius. It is kind of a long bridge. Now you can kill him or just jump to the left.

4. After jumping, aim kind of to the edge and you will see the island on the left where there are some fire elementals is where you will swim to. Past that is another similar island. From that 2nd island you will see ""The Molten Bridge"" made out of stone, and below it, you will see a ramp.

5. Just swim to that ramp and walk under the bridge. Straight ahead is the Dark Forge if you need to smelt any Dark Iron and have the skill from Gloom'rel. Do a hairpin left to 3 elementals which you may kill, and at the end, kill 3 more. Or you can just zerg the core fragment which is left and is clickable, no time cast.

6. ONLY when you have the core fragment in hand, walk through the giant (and obvious) whirly gate and enter Molten Core. Now leave the whirly gate the same way you came in and you will be at Lothros Riftwalker to turn in your quest. Don't forget.

4.0 ROUTE:

1. Enter the instance.

2. Use the Mole Machine and hit ""Just Past the Grim Guzzler.""

3. Jump onto a balcony where Lord Incendius and The Dark Anvil is located. Kill or skip him, and jump WEST into the lava.

4. - 6. SEE ABOVE.

To make it as simple as possible:

1. Enter BRD
2. On your right, take the mole machine to ""just past the grim guzzler""
3. Jump down to the Black Anvil
4. Swim N/NW

The dungeon maps make finding the direction to swim completely trivial.

With the changes in Cata, it is even easier...

Take the mole machine just inside the entrance to the instance to the 'Just past the Grim Guzzler' location. As you exit, take the first hallway going down. You will be at the Chamber of Enchantment where you can easily avoid the boss. Just stick to the left wall and go down again, where you will find yourself at the Mold Foundry. Eliminate the trash here and exit to the Chamber of the Seven. You know the routine; Talk to the ghost, kill the 7 dwarfs he sends after you, kill the ghost, the door opens. Soon after you exit you will see a big door ahead, you want to make a right before that, where you will see the molten bridge. Go across the bridge killing all the elementals along the way. The core fragment will be just to the left of the raid instance entrance.

Follow your steps back to the mole machine and just have it send you to the instance entrance.

Exit the instance and return the core fragment to Lothos Riftwaker.

The 56 Mage I walked through received 12415 XP for the quest.

ok, easiest way to the core fragment/molten core; soon as you enter BRD take the mole machine on your left to ""just past the grim guzzler"", then jump over the side onto lord incendius' platform then jump off just to your right, keep swimming until you see a bridge with a few fireguard destroyers on it on the left hand side of the bridge there is a little ramp going up out of the lava , up the ramp and onto the bridge the core fragment/raid entrance is at the other side of the bridge. Also the black forge is on a little bridge leading off of the main one.

Note you will need a reasonable amount of health to get through the lava

I found the core fragment for the attunement quest without any problems (take your pick from the other comments on this page), but I dreaded running back through BRD to turn it in.

At least as of Mists of Pandaria, going through the Molten Core entrance doesn't port unattuned players anywhere. So I got naked and looked for the nearest place to die. At level 90, the lava didn't even do enough damage to get me below 100% health when I was naked. The Fireguard Destroyers on the bridge missed me too often to do any significant damage in a timely manner. So I went into the Lyceum next door and ran through as many mobs as I could. After I pulled about half the room, they killed me pretty fast and looks like it might be the most efficient place to die.

When I died, my spirit was immediately next to the BRD entrance so all I had to do was run in and run right back out to recover my corpse. Then I just had to run back through the Masonry and turn in the quest. After the quest turn in, Lothos Riftwaker ported me directly into Molten Core.

Swimming to MC revised.

1. Take the mole machine Past the Grim Guzzler,
2. Walk down the stairs to your right around (or through) https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=9156 Ambassador Flamelash. You can now see the Bridge to MC straight ahead from the back of the platform.
3. Swim just past the bridge and hop up on the rock by the fallen metal walkway.
4. Cross the bridge to your left.
5. Click the shiny rock on the left of the raid entrance.

(p.s. This is the swimming only method. If you want to know how to get out again see Necarie's post. Otherwise continuing down that hallway past Flamelash you can just kill the 7 dwarfs and be able to walk back out to take the portal back up to the entrance to turn in the quest.)
