Bring a pair of Perfect Courser Antlers to Ogtinc in Azshara. Ogtinc resides atop the cliffs northeast of the Ruins of Eldarath.

Perfect Courser Antler (2)

Description

The courser wears the mightiest antlers in the known lands. Such antlers are used to defend the courser, goring an attacker and often damaging the points. Perfect, natural antlers are the sign of an animal spirit with supreme confidence.

To hold such antlers will bestow the same confidence in you.

Hunt the mosshoof courser, find the perfect antlers and bring them to me.

The Mosshoof Coursers who drop these, are in the northern and southern region of Azshara. Basically just run north from where Ogtinc gives you the quest.

For this and the Wave Trasher quest after, go for the higher level mobs. In the case of these, the coursers, focus exclusively on the level 53 coursers. The levels of the coursers are not evenly dispersed. The stretch extending northwest from the blue dragons contains primarily level 52 coursers. You find more concentrated level 53 coursers by heading east or northeast, but watch out for the giants. It will still take a long time, but more like 30 minutes instead of two hours.

I killed 3 total...no joke. Got the drop on my 1st and 3rd kills. I guess I was just lucky. Good luck to the rest of you!

I recommend route between points (35,62) and (42,72). Until you make one run, you can turn back, as they have respawned

Also, be sure to have Beast Tracking up. With the 2.3 changes, they will now show as a yellow dot on your screen among the several red.

I had a horrible time trying to get the antlers to drop. I've killed 40 something of them so far and I still only have one. Horrid drop rate :/

I grinded over 24k of XP, not rested (at level 52), before the quest items dropped within 3 kills of each other. Horrible drop rate. :(

Worst...drop rate...ever. I was slaying these things for about half an hour with no luck. Finally got a drop at 35,65 , good luck!

id have to agree this takes a lot of patience... few coursers roam around they never drop those antlers, with you ending up with no more of these mobs to kill...

but then i found a better spot to hunt them. go to (36,69) of the map and you'll surely find more of em there. almost every corner. every kill i make, i can instantly start and transfer to a new target... this was where i acquired my perfect courser antlers in around 5-10mins... good compared to the no drop 30mins in other areas >_<

When I first started this quest at 50 I had a horrible time just finding Coursers let alone getting the antlers to drop. I would advise against going to the very northern area of Azshara because of the amount of elite giants in that area (called the Bitter Reaches for a good reason). Instead the Legashi area a bit west of that area is safer and has a good number of the mobs and is where I eventually completed the quest.

Got my antlers on the 4th and 5th drop at (51,26 ; 26,76) the thalassian base camp.
As a lvl 50 i had no problems with walking past the hyppogyphs.

This quest took no longer then 10 minutes for me. I only killed 4 Courser's and got my antlers on 3rd and 4th kill. I guess I am lucky since what I read about what other people have experienced in this quest, i thought it was going to take a long long time. But luckily for me, not londer then 10 mins and I hope any other hunters that do this quest have goodluck and dont spend hours searching for them.
If you spend more then 3 hours looking for these, forget about it. The rewards are gonna get replaced when you get into outlands, so dont bother if they arnt dropping for you.

Took me quite a while to finally obtain the two that the quest needed. Was fine for my skinning trade but was just repetitive in killing the same thing up towards 40 times before I finally got both to drop. I ran it with two other quests so I could bounce back and forth.

the Absolutly best place to get these is East Legash Enchampment (60,17) plus minus 10 to all sides(with the exception of north ofc ;))

it took about 20-30 mins to find both, found both in the north of the zone. fact is, you will encounter dozens of hippogryphs for every few courser. kill everyone you see and hope for good luck

Good directions - lots of 'em near 40, 72.

True - its a poor drop rate. I got mine on #15 [a lvl 52] and #24 [a lvl 53]. They do respawn quickly, though.
  • Watch out for dragonkin in the area - lvl 51-53 elites, etc.
    another nice quest for skinning...

I just finished this quest and it was horrible. It took me 3 hours to get antlers and I killed almost 150 Mosshoof Coursers. The drop is really rare.

i found about 8 or 9 at 60 16, with only a couple hippogryhs, only had to clear the area twice for the two drops as a lvl 53 nelf

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that while it takes FOREVER to get the first one, the second one drops not too long after. But in general, yeah, this is a pain. Like other people have said, look for them in the south near the dragon kin. It's a small mob, sure, but you don't have to search through mobs of hippogryphs to get to them. =P.

to make it faster use : track beasts. it will show them as yellow dots on map.
