Junkboxes Needed

Progress

My rogues need to hone their lockpicking skills, and I need locks of adequate difficulty -- the stuff Zan makes us is unfit for all but the lowliest neophytes.

Tell ya what, if you bring me 5 Heavy Junkboxes, I'll provide you with some of the finest throwing knives known to roguekind.

You can unlock the boxes and rifle through them, but you'll have to leave at least a few coins in them... even a rogue in training needs motivation.

When you are doing this quest, unlock the junkbox and loot the stuff but leave the cheapest loot behind. This way, you get some of the coin/loot, but you also have the junkbox to turn in.

Without any clue still as to the result of grinding out these for reputation to some unknown reward, it's nice to note a small and profitable shortcut for rogues when grinding out humanoids.
Pick the locks on the junkboxes, shift+click open the box so you don't loot it's entire contents. Remove all but 1 item(s) in the box. I usually leave the guaranteed rogue poison reagent, which sells for pennies. Turn in 5 of these 90% looted, unlocked boxes 75 rep and a throwing dagger that sells for 1g32s53c. (note, the throwing daggers are unique, and you must sell it before turning in again. There is a vendor in the basement to help with this, a small annoyance). You likely won't be turning in more than 20 boxes, so it's brief.

42,000/75=560
560*5= 2,800

Good luck, and happy lock picking ;)

I just finished Pick pocketing every mob in Tyr's hand , yes even the the ones wondering on the side of the mountains and in every building, I received 13 Heavy Lockboxes, this took about 15 minutes

The good news is, you don't have to be concerned with getting any other type of lockboxes like the Sturdy ones that drop from lvl 49-52 mobs in Winterspring.

As a level 58 rogue, I chose to do a run through Blackrock Depth's Ring of Law. I recommend this area for rogues at least 53. There are no guards on patrol (one Fireguard makes his way to the top of a ramp and turns around) and all the mobs stay still, lowering your chances of being detected (unless you jump blindly into one, like I did). Make a run through, find a safe place, pick the boxes (if it was a bad run go afk for a minute) and the mobs have refilled their pockets.

Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to how long this took. But I did 10 complete circles and one partial one. On 10 full circles, I acquired 49 junkboxes (hence why I did the partial - consisting of 9 mobs or so).

Junkboxes on each circle: 4, 7, 6, 10, 3, 7, 6, 1, 5
Average junkbox per circle: 4.9
Average Wealth per circle: 1g 20s 23.7c

Other good drops: 2 star rubies.

Including the partial run, I ended with 50 junkboxes, 12g 2s 37c gained in wealth, and 3 star rubies - not including, of course, all the Alterac Cheese, Homemade Cherry Pies, Hickory Pipes, Deep Fried Plantains, and Superior Healing Potions I passed up.

As an observation, my bad run for junkboxes were also bad runs for wealth, and I could tell I'd come up short on boxes when I got more than 3 mobs with just copper.

After accidentally destroying two junkboxes out of my first 30, first by having autoloot on by mistake, then reflexively clicking on the 2s inside a box with no other junk, I have decided I am too dumb to try opening any more boxes. On the bright side, I can now avoid using a glyph slot on pick lock, and some Ravenholdt trainee can have a fair chance to score his very own epic dagger.

This is my first post, and I'm glad it can be about something as trivial and elitist as a Feat of Strength. I've been working on this one for a while and reading as much as I could find, so you can rest assured that I have some idea of what I'm talking about.

On a whim, I decided to pickpocket the Greengill Slaves https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=25084#pickpocketing while doing some SSO dailies. I was pleased when Heavy Junkboxes began showing up in my bags! I was not looking forward to spending hours in LBRS or other such instances, not to mention the time involved getting to them. Whereas the Isle of Quel'Danas is relatively easy to get to by taking the portal from Shattrath City. Also, there is no need to lose time or money deleting things from your bags as you can just run over to any of the numerous NPC's at Sun's Reach and sell it. These little guys are neutral, even though they are surrounded by hostile mobs; this would seem to make them easier targets for rogues, as you don't aggro them accidentally while picking their pockets. If you are on the quest to free them, Disrupt the Greengill Coast https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=11541 , you can kill two birds with one stone. Pickpocket all the mobs, then use your orb to free them, they'll respawn shortly-rinse and repeat!

Note these murlocs don't show up on the junkboxes' loot table, but Heavy Junkbox does show up in the slaves'. If it makes any difference, I'm on an RP server-Feathermoon. My links don't seem to be working, I'm sure it's due to my inexperience XD

I've farmed 500 junkboxes so far in LBRS including the first part of UBRS with my 74 rogue alt. I can pickpocket all human mobs in 20 minutes and end up with 30-35 junkboxes per run. Usually I do only one run at a time and log off near Wyrmthalak. Before continuing I log on to my retired hunter engineer who happily waits before the instance entrance and places Jeeves and MOL.E. So the rogue who will be placed right there can sell stuff and send the boxes to my main before I start the next run.

This way I can get almost 100 boxes per Hour and even if you hearth back to the next mailbox, you should get way more junkboxes than in Tyr's Hand.

For anyone manually pick pocketing the junkboxes themselves (and I was against this for the longest time, but employing a rogue to do my bidding turned out to be too hard in the end) I found the following macro posted by https://vanillawowdb.com/?user=semedori semedori, allowing you to pick pocket simply by mousing over the target and hitting the macro, simultaneously assigning a star above the head of the mob as you do it, so you can work through groups more efficiently:<div class=""quote"">/cleartarget

For the absolute fastest turn-in of your, no doubt, absurd amount of lockboxs', I found that the following process worked great. You'll need an engineer- so mass summon a friend if need be (You'll need to mass summon them outside of Ravenholdt)Create this Macro and place it in a keybound slot.
<pre class=""code"">/script SelectGossipAvailableQuest(1)
/script CompleteQuest()
/script GetQuestReward()</pre>
  1. Shift Click the icon for the mail containing your Lockboxs'. Place your cursor over https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=7323 Winstone Wolfe, right click and spam your macro keybind.
  2. Continue this process until the amount of https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=25878"">(Item #25878) becomes unsatisfactory. Then vendor them to https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=49040"">(Item #49040) or your other form of ""vendor-bot"".

I'm not sure why Wowhead still records this quest as ending with https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=6707 Fahrad, but I can assure you it does not.

The route through BRD is easy to learn:
1) Enter the East Garrison and activate the closing mechanism for the large dwarven gate (you know the one I mean). Don't Pick Pocket anything in the East Garrison, they'll only give you Sturdy Junkboxes. In fact, you might want to kill everything here just so you're not tempted to try them later on.

4) Move through the Grim Guzzler door and Pick Pocket the 3 groups on the upper semicircle of Shadowforge City.

This next section covers a huge section, a good part of it with very few things to Pick Pocket, but it does contain 2 sections with good Junkbox yields. You may choose to cut it in order to tighten your loop through the instance, but I got so many Heavy Junkboxes there that it's worth a mention.

-------

5) Move through the Chamber of Enchantment to the Mold Foundry. There's nothing in this Chamber but a boss you don't need to kill.

6) Pick Pocket your way through the Mold Foundry.

7) Kill the Seven in the Summoner's Tomb, light the fires in the Lyceum, and kill the big molten boss to open the doors to the Imperial Seat.

8) Pick Pocket your way through the Imperial Seat. It's best to take one side (don't forget the upper floor) until you get to Emperor Thaurissan and then do the other side on the way out. You don't have to kill the Emperor or the Priestess standing next to him. You can Pick Pocket both without trouble if you hop on one of the chairs directly in front of them.

9) Run back to Shadowforge City. Some of the mobs in Mold Foundry and that semicircle of Shadowforge City might be available to be Pick Pocketed again, but there's no guarantee.

-------

10) Jump down by the Mole Machine and Pick Pocket your way through the Hall of Crafting, the lower semicircle of Shadowforge City, the Vault area, and the Domicile.

11) Avoid the 2 Dwarf mobs between the Domicile and the Shrine of Thaurissan, they only give https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=16884"">(Item #16884)es. Feel free to murder the poor bumbling bastards.

12) Pick Pocket your way through the Shrine of Thaurissan and the Ring of the Law.

This will bring you back to the East Garrison where you can begin your run again. There is no need to leave the instance. By this time all the mobs you Pick Pocketed before should be available to be Pick Pocketed again. It's very possible to do this loop until you run out of bag space (a very long time indeed with https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=82446"">(Item #82446)s), at which time you pull out your handy https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=40768"">(Item #40768) to send them to an alt for turn-ins or safe keeping while you continue your Dark Iron Pick Pocket Adventure.

Does anyone know how long it takes for an NPC's pockets to refill after you pick them? I'm not sure if I'm better off killing them and forcing a respawn rather than just waiting.
