The Power of Pine

Use a Stink Bomb Cleaner to remove any Forsaken Stink Bomb that's been dropped on Southshore. Return to Sergeant Hartman in Southshore when you're done.
  •
Clean up a stink bomb that's been dropped on Southshore!
Provided Item:
Stink Bomb Cleaner

Description

The thing I hate the most about Hallow's End are the stink bombs the Forsaken use on Southshore. Who knew that celebrating liberation would have to involve such a smelly mess?

During Hallow's End, use this cleaner to remove any nasty stink bombs the Horde may drop here in the village. It uses the power of pine to fight funky smells.

Do your part to keep Southshore clean, and I'll give you some Hallow's End treats I'm sure you'll enjoy. We have a deal?

Completion

Ah, it almost smells better around here already. Almost.

Thanks to you, <name>, Southshore just might make it through another Hallow's End. Here's your treats, with my thanks! If you run out of candy, I think there's a gnome named Katrina Shimmerstar in Ironforge who can sell you more; she's only around during Hallow's End, I believe.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 315 experience (18 90 at max. level)

Only one person can get credit for cleaning up each stink bomb, so be quick!

Is there any quest at all similar to this for Horde players, that requires Alliance players to do something for the Horde to respond to? The most frustrating part of this quest is hoping some Horde will come along and throw stink bombs so Alliance can clean them up. I'm having a hard time of thinking of any quest that has quite the same dynamic for the Horde.

unless im mistaken, the horde get celebration while the alliance get to ride up and see a burning wickerman and clean up stinkbombs? seems a bit unfair to alliance.

My tip on how to do this quest:
- join the Worlddefense channel (/join Worlddefense)
- set your Hearthstone to Southshore
- go about your business (like doing the Tricks and Treats of Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor and Outland achievements which involve a lot of travel and time, but beats idling around in Southshore waiting for a random Horde)
- do pay attention to the Worlddefense channel and the second you see ""Southshore is under attack"" abandon everything and use your hs to get there as fast as possible.
- most likely a Horde guy is trying to do his version of the quest so as soon as you hit Southshore go look for a stink cloud and use the power of pine :-)

- The stink clouds nausea does not break prowl.
- The horde typically wreak havoc while they are there (PvP server), so if you're not with a group of 70's you'll probably die a few times trying to get this done.
- You smell Horrible!

ya a tad bit unfair to try and do this quest because alliance has to wait for the horde to initiate it. stupid move on blizzard's part.

I second doing it the earliest you can. I waited until 10/22 and I had to sit there for a 45 minutes before a horde came waltzing in to drop his stink bombs. I wasn't the only one there either...I was just the fastest for once. I was very lucky. Don't count on luck, just get it out of the way.

The quest can be completed by running your hordie up the the top of the inn and throwing it in the corner of the room with the two low level npc's in it, then quickly changing to your alliance character and cleaning it up. Fantastic for low population horde servers, or when everyone is out spreading zombie germs around and not interested in doing this quest.

idiotic for the alliance. Had to wait about 2h before a horde doing this showed up. And when the time came they were 3 and dropped loads of stink bombs -.-

Just camp there and watch some TV while you wait. Or use the World Defense channel tactics, can work but not very reliable, since southshore is near horde territory, therefore that messages maybe only a bunch of them pvping around and not doing the quest at all (as happened to me). So, as i said, the best option is to camp in the middle of southshore, turn on your TV (or get some other work done) while you wait.

Good Luck.

And blizzard SHOULD fix this to a more ""friendly"" way of completing it.

Does anyone know if this can be completed by a group or does everyone have to do it individually?

This quest has become more of a fight against your own faction. I don't think the horde have any issues doing their side of the event, perhaps maybe a bit of a fight to get to Southshore, but even then. On my server, there are at least 6 or 7 alliance standing around Southshore at any given time, waiting for a horde to walk by and bomb the place. Then it's all to who are fast enough with clicking a button. I've personally been sitting around for a good few hours. I leave for 10 seconds to get a drink, and I come back to WorldDefense spam, and 4 diffused bombs.

I'm getting tired of this.

The quest doesn't rely completely on Horde players anymore.
Every so often (I don't know the timer) an Innocuous Townsman spawns and throws some stink bombs.

Ok, I understand that this world event is essencially for Horde, seeing as it's the forsaken's celebration for being freed from the lich king and it's not really an alliance thing to celebrate it... but i really don't see how these quests ruin hallow's end for the horde, as the achievement says...

'oh noes, southshore doesn't stink anymore, oh there are some allys behind the bush looking at the wickerman!'

am i missing something here?
