Provided Item:
Demon Summoning Torch

Description

<name>, thanks to you we have devised a way to summon forth the root of all evil for the Winterfall tribe - the corrupting demon that dominates them!

Take this torch to the mouth of High Chief Winterfall's personal cave and plant it there. Doing so will force the demon to reveal itself and investigate. This is when you and your allies must strike it down! Only the essence of the fallen demon will begin the lengthy healing process of the Winterfall tribe... and the salvation of Timbermaw Hold.

Reward

You will receive:
Defender of the Timbermaw

Progress

You have returned to us, <name>... does this mean that the demon has been slain?

Completion

You've... you've saved us! Your defeat of the demon Xandivious has ensured the safety of Timbermaw Hold for years to come. You are truly a hero amongst our kind.

Please, accept this with our blessing. Though the healing process will be slow amongst the furbolgs - and the conflict will still go on - you have given the Winterfall something they never had before this day.

They have a chance at survival.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 660 experience (39 60 at max. level)
  • 500 Reputation with Timbermaw Hold

I did this quest the other day. You will recieve the quest from Gore One Eye in the crossroad section of Timbermaw Hold. He will send you to Winterspring where you will have to go to the Wintermaw village to the east of Everlook. You will have to go to the top of the path where the Chief usually is. Clear the area of Wintermaw, especially in the lower section so you can have room to fight with out interference. You will have to place the torch in the cave entrance, and the demon will spawn down the hill from where you are standing. He is a 62 Elite, and can see through stealth and emits a poison cloud that does 200-300 damage. He is nearly impossible to solo mostly because his range attack will get you over time. He can be stunned and rooted and has alot of hitpoints. Did this with 2 rouges, 1 stunned and the other did most of the damage and switched agro so we could utilize evasion. Good news is anyone can loot him once he is dead because he drops a chest similar to Araj that is lootable by everyone on the quest, whether they are in the group or not.

Completing this quest gives Timbermaw Hold reputation. I'm not sure what the exact amount is, but it's enough to take you to 999/1000 exalted.

Am I right in guessing that this would be one of the better trinkets for the 49 battlegrounds?

I guess it would be pretty good, though I don't know how easy it would be to get this trinket at level 49. The killing and looting of something like 2500 level 47+ mobs needed to get to Exalted rep would need to be started really early.

Probably most practical with two accounts with your very low level guy following your main so you can grab the rep when you'd find it difficult to kill the Furbolgs on your own.

You need to hand in the torch when you deliver it. So no, you can't keep it.

As far as I can tell, this will actually max out your Timbermaw reputation (i.e., it doesn't just give 500 reputation). IIRC i was around 200-something into exalted before I turned it in, and was instantly raised to 999/1000 when I did.

Gained 602 reputation after comleting this quest, filling my rep bar up to 999/1000, so guessing this quest now gives you 1000 rep, instead of the 500 written here on wowhead.

The guardian summoned looks awesome, to bad we can't transform to a furbolg anywhere anymore. :)

Yes! Alliance get this quest, but the next part sends you to Ironforge instead of Org.

I started grinding rep with Timbermaw Hold when I was level 46. When I finally managed to get exalted, I was level 51. Remember you don't only get reputation, but also exp for killing mobs ^^ If you are low level, it doesn't take very long for a level, if you can kill them fast enough. Good to know, though, is that you don't get more exp for an enemy 6 levels higher than you, compared to one that's 5 levels higher.

Anyway, I don't think it's anything you would want to get for a 49 twink, thinking of the amount of time needed to get it. If you are two, helping eachother, it's probably not impossible, though.

Make sure you don't kill him too quickly, he has to say his ""dying breath"" line, at I believe 10% or else the box won't drop, and you'll have to wait 10 minutes.

And by the way, there's a Dream Theatre song called The Root of All Evil, it's a really good one. I don't think it's a reference, though.

Killed 7 Alliance players by summoning him. I summoned him as a lvl 60 Orc Hunter, ran for my life, came back when the alliance players were all dead and just knocked off his final 2000 health. Then waited for the CD to finish before summoning him again and leaving. I'm so nice.

What nobody really mentioned here is that if you destroy the item to summon him, you cannot turn in the quest. I just did that and am having to do the quest all over again. Thanks Blizzard. =(

(I know it was my own stupidity, but my bags were full and Everlook hates me)

You must be at the entrance of the cave and not in the cave for the torch to work.

Solo'd on my 60 arcane mage. Pop Mirror Image and win. Never went below 85% and fight only took 10 seconds.

Glad to see not all the old epic quest were taken out

For some reason he did not drop the quest item required, for me. Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT/ It was the chest that did not appear last time, so I waited the hour and tried again this time not downing him in two shots and just letting auto attack do the work, seemed to work.

Soloed as 57 Shadow Priest.

He hits like a tree, so here is what i dwowhead:1,id:

Pop all three dots on him and keep them up.

Shield yourself as soon as you can whenever you can.

Keep renew up and spam flash heal. He will be hitting you for &lt;10% of your hp hits so you mana regen will be bottomless.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Solo'd as a 54 Prot War. Was very close, but doable.

Advice for anyone soloing: get a https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=13458"">(Item #13458) and pop it just before dropping the torch. With this his Nature damage pulse is nullified for the duration of the fight.

LOOK BEHIND YOU!
That one piece of advice could have saved me a lot of grief!
The demon spawns way down the hill behind you - he will not come right up to the cave, so don't hang about there waiting for him!

Ok, this quest confused me....drop the torch at about 69,50 -- at the MOUTH of the cave...if you go too far in it won't work. Then, turn around and you will see the demon and another bad guy...kill them. The essence of Xandivious was not on the body when I looted it, but next to it. Good luck.

Hey heres a helpful tip for any low levels trying to do this one.

Because the item that you need isn't looted off the corpse you can log onto a main and kill xandivious and let the basket drop, then quickly swap to the other character with the quest and walk over and pick up the basket. Simple.

Thats how i did it at least, hope this helps someone.

Also done on MoP.
