Unsigned Field Duty Papers

Description

Greetings, <name>. Before I assign you to more involved tasks in the war, you'll need to do your share of field duty.

You will find Captain Blackanvil's Ironforge Brigade outside Hive'Zora.

Report to him or his lieutenant, Janela Stouthammer and come back to me. I shall have a more advanced assignment for you ready.

Oh and please do us a favor and stay away from the Orgrimmar Legion. We've been forced to keep the two forces well apart from one another due to mutual animosity.

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Combat Assignment
Logistics Assignment
Tactical Assignment

Progress

You'll find Captain Blackanvil's force stationed outside Hive'Zora. Talk to his lieutenant, Janela Stouthammer, if you can't find him.

Completion

Very well, <name> I've prepared a set of tasks that should make optimal use of your skills.

With the continued efforts of you and people like you, our enemy will soon be vanquished once and for all!

Should you require a new mission briefing, return to Captain Blackanvil.

Gains

A big level 60 elite wasp spawns and approaches the camp. The captain and npc's will basically take the thing down. Just a few heals needed for the captain. The wasp had something like 220,000 hit points. You can almost just watch this event happen. I tried helping to kill the wasp and pulled agro, I do not recommend getting agro on this wasp heh. After the quest is done talk to the captain soon or it resets, he disappears, and you have to do it over again.

Since patch 2.3 this quest is more easier to solo. The wasp is still an elite bug, but it's easier to take down. About 2 times as fast as before.
This quest is repeatable, so you should be able to get all 3 rewards, and therefor all the quests related to them.

This quest gives 50 reputation, for what it's worth.

The wasp has around 100k hp now - the NPCs can handle it by themselves. Blackanvil barely goes below 50% for the whole event. Kind of depressing really - you actually had to help before.

Funnily enough, the riflemen are also bugged at the moment, and won't fire. I guess they caught on to the nerf too, and are just kicking back and chilling.

After you turn in the signed papers in the Cenarion hold you then choose either a combat, logistical or tactical task for the subsequent quest. There are multiple quests in each portfolio.

Be careful about abandoning the quests. After reading the porfolio you have chosen and chosing one or more quests, if you don't like the quests and abandon it, and throw away the papers, you will have to reaquire a signed field duty paper in order to choose another task. This obviously involves redoing the elite wasp. Its easy but takes time so chose carefully...

I discovered this bug workaround on the https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8731 Horde version of this quest and am cross-posting it here. Feel free to downrate if the bug is not present on the Alliance version.

The spawning event for this quest is moderately bugged; the silithid takes several minutes to spawn after talking to the NPC. However, if you start another event shortly after, there will be no delay. If you're planning to do several Assignments and will therefore be doing this quest several times, I recommend doing them all at once, thus avoiding the wait on all of them after the first one.

I'm not sure exactly how much time you have, but every time this worked for me the corpse of the previous kill was still present. It takes about 2 minutes to run back to Cenarion Hold and get a new quest, and https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=21143 Unsigned Field Duty Papers have a 3 minute cooldown; both of these are well within your window of opportunity.

Ok, don't be as stupid as me and wait for the damn thing to show up. I talked to everyone (I thought) and then waited for about 30 min. Then I finaly came across the NPC ""Janela Stouthammer"".

1. Run to the camp.
2. Sign the papers.
3. Talk to Janela Stouthammer.
4. Kill the elite.
5. Let her sign the papers.

Done.
