Ok, so I tried a little experiment to see if the Craftsman's Writ quests are worth repeating. I'm a L60 Warlock with 300 Tailoring/300 Skinning. The first quest I got was for tailoring (Brightcloth Pants) so that wasn't hard for me to complete and didn't cost me much to speak of. I'm sure my gains were whatever the typical first turn-ins are.

For accepting the 2nd crafting quest (therby consuming the valor token), I got +11 rep (I'm currently at honored). The second quest was for Rugged Armor Kits, which I can't make so I went off to the AH to check them out. About 1.18g on my server and I needed 25. For the sake of the experiment, I bought them, having 3 kits left over owing to the way stacks were offered at the time. I used the 3 extras on my non-enchanted items for +120 armor (not bad at all for a squishy warlock). When I turned in the quest (therby consuming the 25 kits and the writ itself), I received +55 rep (and I forgot whether or not I got any gold for the turn-in, even though in retrospect, that was a pretty important detail...doh). Anyway.

rep for accepting quest: +11
total cost of items: 33.04g
armor gained: 120
rep for completing quest: +55
gold received for completing quest: ? (if any)

So, for the sake of comparison, let's say I just used a Valor Token and bought 3 rugged armor kits...

rep for using a token: +27
total cost of items: 3.54g
armor gained: 120

The difference is
-29.5g
+39 rep
or .76g per rep point

Of course, all of these figures will vary depending on your current reputation level, market prices of items, and what crafting quest the guy gives you, but I'm putting this up as a ""for instance.""

Conclusion: In this experiment, I ended up paying .76g for each rep point I gained over and above what I would have gained by just using the Valor Token. Now, I prefer to run around and kill monsters and sell what they drop in order to make money rather than paying gold for rep points, but some players might be happy to do that. Decide for yourself whether or not it's worth repeating, but for my money and time, I'll just be using the tokens I get for now...

I also tried to do this. Something different besides the usual hack and slash rep. grinding.

I am a 300/300 Miner/BS, to start off with. The first Writ I got was ""Craftsman's Writ - Greater Arcane Protection Potion"". bad luck I guess. Can't do that one without the AH's help. The second was ""Craftsman's Writ - Flask of Petrification"". The third, and last, was ""Craftsman's Writ - Huge Thorium Battleaxe"". Great I thought. One I can actually do... then I realised that one Huge Thorium Battleaxe requres 2 stacks of Thorium Bar. I have plenty of other things to spend 120 Thorium Bar's on. Not a smart move here blizz...

What everyone here is glossing over is that not only do you get Argent Dawn rep (albeit a small amount), you also get your choice of insignia: https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=22524 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=22524 or https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=22523 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=22523 .

If you want to collect insignia for AD goodies, then some of these writs are definitely worth the effort, especially considering how long it takes to farm 30 bone fragments, or 30 dark iron scraps (or savage fronds, etc.).

I didn't have any trouble getting dark iron scraps just running brd ~twice (and people left about 2 hours in, pugs joy!). I can't really speak on bone fragments... but savage fronds aren't that hard... run mara a bunch or kill the flowers in un'goro.

Do not make the mistake of deleting the Craftsman's writ after accepting the quest. You need the writ as one of the quest objectives.

If you delete the writ, you've wasted the quest as there is no way to get another one other than by turning in more valor tokens, or the very unlikely chance you might find it on the AH.

I did this just to see what kind of rep reward came from the writ quest. +150 rep with Argent Dawn. Better, in my opinion, to kill skeletons for the bone frags. All the time I spent getting the mats for the four pairs of runic leather pants was not worth the time away from killing the undead.

Many complain about how arbitrary the writ rewards are. After all, most of the time you're not going to get a writ for something you can make yourself. Fortunately, you can buy and sell them on the AH. They do still sell, even today, though it sometimes takes awhile. If you're looking to buy one, you can usually get them on the cheap, usually a gold or two.

Whether or not they're worth the effort depends on your situation. The insignia items aren't worth much these days, but you still might want the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=22679"">(Item #22679) or reputation from first turn-ins. If you're leveling a profession, you may have to make some of these items anyway as part of the grind. In that case, writs may be more convenient.

heres the thing blizzard increased most of the rep gained by PRE-TBC factions this one is a classic example.

The writs quest gives you 20 rep for accepting quest and 150 if you complete the quest - 170 total rep

Just using the tokens for rep will get you 100rep. Ok 70 differance but its not that muhc of a differance if you relise how much time you waste on the writ quests IMO jsut use the tokens for rep dont do any more quests if u need more rep farm baron mount as well as AD rep keeping your commision on you all the time good rep and good rewards since blizzard increased the drop rate to 1/100.

The individual quests you get from the writ do not count toward the Loremaster achievement.
