Description

Alas, the time to attack Andorhal and drive out the lich that controls it is upon us!

Inside the ruins of the city is where the lich - Araj the Summoner - holds dominion. He is guarded by numerous Scourge surrounding the remains of city's center, and his personal retinue of guardians attached to him directly is formidable. You will need numerous allies to even stand a chance of facing him successfully.

Destroy Araj, <name>, and bring me a shard from his phylactery as proof!

Your task has been given to you, <name>. Do you have a shard from the lich's phylactery as proof of the task being accomplished?

Completion

You've done it! Araj... the lich is finally defeated!

Somehow if you pull him from behind you can avoid pulling the mob of four infront of him. Maybe it was just luck though. Ended up focus firing Araj, dying to the mobs, and then SSing to loot while a friend trained. Since his body changes when he dies, you can't expect a quick loot-- Be prepared to be interrupted if all the mobs aren't taken care of in some way or another.

Good to pair this quest with last quest in chain for Key to Scholomance (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=838 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=838). so you wont need to kill Araj twice.

Ya, just to clarify. when you kill him he doesnt drop it on his corpse, an object appears to click and you loot it from the object. So get a 70 char to run in and clear, then take ur alt in and grab it, quest complete.

To get the item from Araj, you basically need to:
  1. Kill him (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1852 Araj the Summoner).
  2. Loot the object (https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=177241 Araj's Phylactery) he spawns on his death.
  3. You are done!
Quick info
Now to do this might be a little tricky if you are alone, now he is supposed to be a 2 man (or higher) ""boss"". Luckly you can solo him as a ranged class! With some DPS and smart use of enviroment you can solo him without a problem (at least no problem for a Frost Mage, probably Fire too :P)

I made a small video (50 seconds) how you can pull him and then kill him without any adds interrupting you! ;)

Even though I'm exalted with all Horde factions, to my surprise this quest awarded me some according to my chatbox.

""Reputation with Horde increased by 350.""
I've never seen this phrasing on any quest before. But, no, it didn't actually give me any rep for anything.

Had a lot of respect, but he is just very easy. Just AE the adds, these are onehit.

Solo'd as a 57 Holy Priest without any problems. You just have to clear some of the mobs front of him and watch out for the elite abominations.

Solo'd as a 57 prot pally. If you're careful you can pull the non elite mobs near him without aggroing the boss; once most of the mobs are cleared, taking him out isn't too much of a problem. Be sure to keep an eye on your mana pool and make smart use of your potions and abilities.

soloed as 54surv hunter with bear pet. Just kill mobs near him and send pet on boss. mend pet, rapid fire and his down easily :)

Not exactly easy, but soloable for a 56 elemental shaman. Be careful with clearing the adds. Araj himself doesn't seem to hit too hard, pretty easy to heal through. I even accidentally pulled the abomination patting around, just focused Araj down, healed up, and killed it too.
