Bring 8 Smoldering Embers from any of the fire elementals in the Charred Vale to Kaela Shadowspear in Stonetalon.

Description

I'm unsure what the Venture Co. did to the Vale, but it's obvious they were overpowered by the creatures there.

They set the forest aflame, and used their inventions of destruction to decimate as much of the Vale as possible.

But in their ignorance they also released something else: burning spirits, elementals of flame, stone and rage.

The land has no chance to see Elune's smile while these creatures roam free.

Bring me their smoldering embers to show you've reduced their numbers.

The drop rate for the embers in this quest are stupidly rare... Be prepared to run around killing a bunch of fire elementals, which in themselves are a pain to kill due to being spread around with all the harpies :

Drop rate for me was about 25% but its a good grinding quest and the rep reward is nice

This quest becomes avaliable after completing the quests given by Gaxim Rustfizzle (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4077 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4077), ie.:
An Old Colleague (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1072 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1072) and Ineptitude + Chemicals = Fun;
and A Scroll from Mauren (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1075 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1075) and Devils in Westfall.
They are very quick to do. In the 1st you just need to buy 4 minor manas and 2 elixirs of minor fortitude (or make it), in the 2nd kill 1, maybe 2 Dust Devils in Wesfall.
Then you get the Covert Ops quests (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1079 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1079 and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1080 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1080 ); after completing them Gaxim tells you to talk to Kaela, which unlocks the quest.

The general notion that the drop rate on the Smoldering Embers is low is right on the mark; it's less than one in five kills (20%); but more ridiculous is the fact that there are very few fire elementals in the zone, most of them wandering along the periphery. It took me more than four full clearings to get my eight.

If you can get out of Stonetalon without doing this quest, you will be saved a headache. These mobs spawn around 1 out of every 20 surrounding mobs and the drop is only about 1 out of 4. Best of luck to you.

Kill all the mobs around. They are on the same respawn timer with the fire elementals.

Go along the southern perimeter, from to 2 for those so inclined, and kill every basilisk and earth elemental along with the Burning Destroyers. I doubt they share their cooldown timer with the harpies, so just skip them.
