Darkshore Grouper (6)

Description

I love fishing. The Blump family is known for fishing. My name is Gubber Blump; I fish.

There's a kind of fish I like to catch around these parts called Darkshore grouper. I used to go out on a boat to fish for grouper, but no boats have been going out since them mean ol' murlocs moved in. I bet they been eating up all the grouper too.

Say, you wanna help me catch Darkshore grouper? I'd give you a bona fide Blump Family Fishing Pole if you did! It's a real good pole to catch fish with.

Reward

You will receive:
Blump Family Fishing Pole

Progress

There's plenty of good dishes you use Darkshore groupers for. They're good to eat, but I think it's more fun catching them.

You caught any Darkshore groupers yet?

Completion

Them's some real nice groupers, <name>! Thanks for helping me out!

You're at least as good of a fisherman as my cousin, Graun Blump. She also has a beard and she smells kinda funny, but that don't do nothing to stop her fishing. I reckon you have what it takes to use a Blump Family Fishing Pole.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 121.875 experience (5 85 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Ironforge

A very easy quest. Gubber Blump will even lend you a fishing pole for the task. You can start fishing directly next to Bubber Blump. The quest can easily be completed with a very low fishing skill.

There are a few fish that you can pull in. Oily Blackmouth can normally be sold in the auction house for quite a few silver each.

The quest should take less than fifteen minutes and will also raise you fishing skill while your doing it.

You could also buy the Darkshore groupers in the Auction House, if you want (not sure why'd you do it though, since you could raise your fishing skill here).

An interesting note is that after you complete this quest, you get a mail from Gubber Blump, thanking you once more and giving you a Shiny Bauble as an extra reward (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6529 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6529).

The name is probably a reference to a Peter Gabriel song called the family and the fishing net

Although the Quest-giver mentions that the murlocks have probably been eating the Grouper, they will not drop it. They must be fished with the Fishing Skill.

I did this quest days ago (maybe over a week? *shrug*), so was quite surprised when I got mail from Gubber! Thought it was quite a funny/nice little touch.

It is actually a reference to Bubba Gump. The fish company Lt. Dan and Forest Gump start up in the movie Forest Gump.

Did this today with my new toon.
Result: ( did 10 minutes, because otherwise i wasted my lure ;) )

8x Darkshore Grouper
10x Rainbow Fin Albacore
3x Oily Blackmouth
5x Slitherskin Makerel
1x Message in a bottle, which contained a Enchanting recipe for spirit +1

Wouldn't bother this quest if you don't plan on leveling Fishing, but my cat looooves fish, so i thought, why not level it.

As has already been said, this is a really easy quest. In about 5 minutes I caught the 6 Groupers AND 3 of the Gaffer Jacks. Fishing Buddy has a 37.5% catch rate for the Groupers, but, that can't be taken as gospel due to sample size.

Does it make any sense to go back and do at a high level? Not unless you're after rep or the LM achievements. The pole reward is dwarfed by the OL quest pole or the LK rep pole.

so where about is the groupers spot you know, where they ""group""? Pretty confusing if you ask me =(. Can you fish of the boardwalk? Or near Gubber Blump? Or at one of the stops where the boats are? But i know one thing, the fish can be sold at the Auction house in darkshore, but no pint wasting your money, you might as well fish for them...the longer it takes, the less time you need to learn...

I'm currently doing the quest, and my drop rate is about 5%.
Not very fun, but eh, free fishing training, skill, and pole.

Edit: Done with the quest now, 67 fishing skill. (earned https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=1557 the achievement along the way)

For the not so wealthy people with us, all the junk you catch at first gives you quite a good bit of money! I got 15 silver (without the quest reward) from it. earns me another 4/5 spell upgrades.

From a fishing skill of 1-50, I only fished up one grouper. Finally, I went to go do some other quests. When I came back, I picked up Gaffer Jacks quest and started fishing again. I got all 6 groupers and 8 jacks in a matter of 12 minutes. I have a fishing skill of 70 from those two quests alone! (:

I was probably extremely unlucky but I had gotten the 50 fish achievement before I had half the amount of groupers I needed. Managed to get to 63 fishing before catching the rest. Was much easier the first time I did it.
