Hollow Vulture Bone (10)

Description

When it comes to racing, every bit counts! Whether it's a minor tweaking on the power output, a slight slackening on the tension coils, or lightening the weight of the frame, you have to take everything into account.

We use vulture bones for a lot of the minor structural tweaks we make to our racers, which offer the perfect balance of strength and weight. Even better, it's easy for us to get more, as the salt flats are littered with vultures.

Bring me some and I'll give you a good price on them.

Reward

Also, you get: 25

Progress

Do you have those bones for me? I was just about to start working on lightening the steering rig, but I don't want to open her up without all the parts I need.

Completion

Great! I can get the crew working on this right away. Thanks, <name>!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 185 experience (11 10 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Ratchet

Have to kill Salt Flats Scavengers. Good location is at 87,66 around a large skeleton in the sand. Soloed as a level 32 Dwarf Warrior easily.

100% drop rate confirmed, even tough this is a level 30 quest, the xp remains the same as of 2.3.

There are several places the vultures can be, but the respawn is ridiculously slow. Seems like 20min+ for some of them. If you find the main areas are clear you might as well go do something else while you wait.

this quest is pretty nuts. there's one good spawn around a pile of bones with 6 vultures on the east side of shimmering flats. other than that there are just single wanderers patrolling around that are pretty hard to find.

i found the group of them by the dead animal bones and after killing those 6 i ran around shimmering flats twice killing the singles that were patrolling. i'm at 9/10 now and there's not a single vulture in the entire zone. i circled another 2 times just to make sure.

sad part is the original group i killed 30 minutes ago has yet to spawn. it may have 100% drop but you'll be waiting a while to complete it.

Worst spawnrate ever.

Kill every single one you see.

If you're using the recruit-a-friend system, do yourself a favor and skip this quest. Finding 10 vultures is bad, but finding 20 is impossible.

I've been circling the zone for over an hour now and haven't seen a single respawn. I'm at 18/20 bones total and seriously considering abandoning this quest.

Maddo... you must be unlucky and bugged. I just did the quest, 100% drop rate, yeah they are a little scattered but I only needed to get 10. It's a fairly easy quest. Just do it while you do the other gathering ones.

If you, like me, picked this quest up last then Decrouxs comments are a slap in the face. I have done all the other gather qs and only need 1 more Vulture. The vultures at 87,65 have not respawned in over an hour! Also if you are using Questhelper then ignore it telling you to go to the pools in the south as there are NO vultures just a horde of Basilisks. Really annoying quest because of the insanely long respawn times.

I am doing this one on my mage alt, never done it in my main...

I like what the goblin says....

""Even better, it's easy for us to get more, as the salt flats are littered with vultures.""

Never trust a goblin....

EDITED

A couple of HOURS later I started to think that this was somehow related to the realm population... I expect for an entire elixir (And... man... Im Alchemy... 2 hours.. ok?) I played in Drakkari a real low population realm... I was the only person in all salt flats... and the respanw has gone way over the twenty minutes Stated above...

Then I think... ""Ok, lets start grinding some experience... I should have lvl up a couple hours ago...""

I killed a couple of mobs... run around a bit and surprise... there was one... since in that very same spot I killed two, a couple of hours earlier, I expect the other one to respawn at least... soon... WRONG!

The respawn has gone forever...

So, minutes later comes to my atention the name of the mob that should drop the quest item... Scavenger! a carrion eater....

Then I killed 5 others mobs... and VOILA! one of them appears to cross my path...

Can anybody else confirm this? if this is the mechanic of the quest some people would save a lot of time from now on!

It appears as the Expansion and patch came out the spawn rate of these or how many there are altogether in the Shimmering Flats has gone down exceptionally. Did it on my main a long time and the place was actually littered with them.

Now on my Rogue alt, I can hardly find at all.

Just did this bedamned quest to get started on getting the gloves... spaced off the shared spawn rate mechanic forever, finally had the guy i was running around with run off and decimate half the zone, *poof* birdies everywhere. Good luck and try not to tear out your hair.

It appears that their spawn is time-of-day related. On an early Sunday morn, there were none at all around the skeleton in the sand (87,66) until 8:00 am realm time, whereupon 5 of them showed up. Otherwise there were only 1 or 2 throughout the expanse of shimmering flats prior to 8. They also seemed to start showing up randomly around the rest of Shimmering Flats after 8:00 am.

Wow, quest seems broken. Level 32 and has to be the most time consuming quest so far. Went with the Swirling Vortex theory with some success. So I would try that if there isn't any birds.

Right now ive done this quest in approx. 15 minutes, just go to the skeleton at 88,66 and if no vulture is around, kill any mob you can see, and then check skeleton again, by doing this you can speed up respawn of vultures (they smell dead carcasses?) dunno, but it works.

A couple of things:

1. As of patch 3.0.8, the vultures around the skeleton spawned a few minutes after the first batch were killed.

2. It is possible to do this part with no experience for killing the vultures. Go with a mage or other aoe class, and die at the vulture area. Have the mage kill all the vultures, then release your spirit and come back to the area to loot.

I was about to suicide on this quest.

I started off going straight to the bones and clearing out the buzzards, I was partied with a friend so we only got a couple each so we went and did other quests, came back and someone else was there we managed another few before having to scour for the lonely ones that patrolled.

After reading through some comments, I sat and waited for near enough an hour. Nothing spawned. I went around and managed to kill a few more but still 2 away from 10 for both of us.

Now I went to test the Swirling Vortex theory, killed one and not long after met another Vulture. Killed some more but didn't find any. We went back to the bones to see if it worked, nothing again. So, after reading BeeBoo651 's comment We set about killing afew creatures near the skeleton, a basilisk, 2 turtles and a scorpion.

It was either good luck or a coincidence but behind us 3 Vultures spawned and we finally got the last few bones. So, if you can't find any try killing some mobs near by and see if that helps? I can't prove it but since then I have been typing this up only one buzzard from the 3 spawned remains. No more have appeared.

That's an hour wasted! XD Good luck.

hate this quest!

I had been running around across the zone for over an hour and found 4 birdys at random places, then I read more then the first 3 comments here hehe

the vortex theory didnt seem to spawn more birds for me, BUT, as Sartharion said above me, killing trash near the big bones DID spawn 5 birds. Killed scorpions and lizards around, about 10 of them. this was at 21:14 on eu realm

missing 16 qs for loremaster and counting ;)
