Forked Mudrock Tongue (8)

Description

I'm working on a dish I call "Mudrock Soup and Bugs." I still need the major ingredients, and... well, I don't think I'd last long trudging through Dustwallow Marsh!

So, <name>, can you do some hunting for me? First, I need the tongues of Mudrock turtles. You can find Mudrocks along the coast, mostly around the bay.

But I don't want just any tongues! I hear that the tongues of some Mudrocks are forked...

They say the forked tongues have a distinct flavor, and I want that flavor in my dish...

Progress

Did you get the forked tongues?

Completion

These will do fine! Thank you, <name>!

Now I'll try different cooking techniques on these tongues to find the best way to bring out their flavor.

Eventually I'll have a dish worthy of serving at the Blue Recluse in Stormwind!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 285 experience (17 10 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Stormwind

Head up and down the coast North of Theramore. The turtles are level 36-37, and the droprate is fairly low, so you'll be killing a lot of them.

They do drop the Thick Scaly Tails and Speckled Shell Fragments, though, so it's not all that bad of a grind. They're gray, but they sell for a decent amount to vendors.

Patience is the key to this easy quest. You can find the Mudrock Spikeshell along the coast East of Theramore. They go almost all the way up to the Barrens! Defias Rummagers and murlocs will probably get in your way, but being a druid, (DRUID POWER!!!) I could easily prowl around them. They dropped a Forked Mudrock Tongue about every 5-7 kills. Extremely easy at level 44. . . (LOL) The turtles are normally 35-36. I saw one 37. Again, patience is the key.

Painful quest since the drop rate is so low. When i did this quest, its about a 31% drop rate (8/26 Mobs), some of the mobs leave empty loots as well. Overall it took me about 30 mins+ to do this quest.

The drop rate for me was very low, took 2 hours to complete. ~10% chance to drop.

Turtles are lvl 35-36, so this quest is really easier than its level may suggest. You only shall care about Defias walking around (althought they're not a problem theirselves, it may be bad getting'em as adds). If you see a Defias, I suggest you killing it before of getting a turtle, or disguising it.

It may be only a coincidence, but I had 75% drop on lvl 36 ones, and 36% on lvl 35 ones. I also got 3 turtle meat, and some gray stuff. Not a bad quest, at all.

The droprate has NOT improved, you were very, very lucky. I've killed 36 now and I have 4. I'm not in a raid group or anything like that.

Horrible quest.

I didn't find the drop rate to be nearly as bad as some were saying. I killed maybe 20 and got all 8 tongues. Just be wary of the Bloodsails hanging out on the coast the further north on the beach you go. Higher levels won't have much trouble with them (they average level 36) but dealing with them and the turtles can be tricky if you're lower level.

Before you pick up this quest, Go see https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1141 Angus Stern in Stormwind City, for the quest called https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1260 ""Morgan Stern"". It is a prequest to this one.

Put me into the ""lousy drop rate"" camp. I probably had to kill 30 of them to get the 8 drops, and maybe a little more.

But I don't want just any tongues! I hear that the tongues of some Mudrocks are forked...See, this I like. A real REASON as to why I may end up having to slaughter 50 turtles for 8 tongues. I am always slightly annoyed with a quest that has me collect something like hooves or heads (that I can clearly SEE on the critter I'm killing) and yet the drop rate is dismal.

Just did this quest on a low level alt. haven't quested with an alt in Theramore since WOTLK was the newest expansion. This quest still has a pretty bad drop rate. I'd guess around 20%. I killed a lot of turtles. This is one of those quests that you remember doing before, years later. ""oh yeah...THIS quest....."".

On the positive side I got a lot of heavy leather and turtle scales to sell to leather workers on the AH, as well as turtle meat for leveling up cooking.

Still, spending 30 minutes on a low level quest is mildly annoying. My advice: well worth it if you are leveling up leather working and/or cooking and need turtle meat, otherwise skip it. There's plenty of other quests that won't take as long.
