Pristine Crawler Leg (12)

Description

Another component of my new recipe is the shelled leg of a giant crab. And the crabs they have in Dustwallow -- Muckshells they call them -- just won't do! I'm afraid the only suitable crabs live far away, in the Swamp of Sorrows.

The shell of the crab leg is a key element of the dish's presentation so I need pristine, unscarred legs. An adult crab might only have one or two such legs, and I need a lot in order to research my dish.

So, <name>... are you willing to travel?

Reward

You will receive:
Baroque Apron

Progress

My research with the Mudrock tongues is progressing nicely. I trust your crab hunt goes well?

Completion

These are wonderful specimens, <name>! The shells are in perfect condition, and the meat is pink and tender. The blood of a chef is in your veins, I'm sure of it!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 315 experience (18 90 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Stormwind

87,18 in swamp of sorrows is a nice spot... there are level 42 crocs around, be careful... getting to the strand is half the battle. the crawlers drop plenty of the legs, most drop 2 at a time.

Go to Darkshire in Duskwood, take the road East out of town.

That leads to Deadwind Pass.

East across this zone leads to the Swamp of Sorrows.

easy to have this done under 5 min!

You have to kill ""silt crawlers"" https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=922 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=922
or ""monsterous crawlers"" https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1088 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1088
located along the eastern coast of Swamp of Sorrows.
I found the most around 95, 48 but they can be found anywhere along the water, they have a good drop rate.

Nice, each Crawler I killed dropped 1 and some even dropped 2!

I found that the easiest place to farm these little sods was around 93,40.

There are no crocs around to pester you and the drop rate was just a good as any other location.

That said, if you are farming XP, then by all means go with the crocs.

They drop off Silt Crawlers (Level 40~ Beast) and Monstrous Crawler (Level 43~ Beast), they're located at the eastern coast of Swamp of Sorrows, along with some level 41~ Crocs.

Silt Crawlers drop Big-mouth Clams, which contains Zesty Clam Meat. 10 of those are needed for the Artisan Cooking quest: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6610 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6610
So it'd be a good idea to save those Zesty Clam Meats if you are leveling Cooking.

Another quest that takes action on the same coast is Driftwood: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1398 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1398

Easily collected from the Silt Crawlers along the North and South of the beach. They tended to often drop x2 of the legs, which made collecting them almost too easy.

An easy quest to finish... if you don't mind traveling to the other side of the world to get it done. Its quests like this that make leveling in Azeroth the pain that it is.

Whether it's easy to accomplish this quest, which as I remember from the last time one of my characters did it, involves gathering of the quest items on the east coast of the area and your recommendation is to come in from the west side of the area, depends entirely on one's level and abilities when attempting to navigate to the appropriate area to perform the requisite activities. If you are just finding out that you need to follow those directions to access the Swamp of Sorrows, you are probably unaware that Alliance players will almost immediately encounter https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=861 Stoneard Scouts and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=862 Stonard Explorers, marked PVP, patrolling the paths on the west side of the Swamp of Sorrows. If you don't want to be flagged for PVP for fighting them, they need to be avoided. And that's just the first of your worries for taking this path to the quest area. The path soon branches into paths leading southeasterly and northeasterly. The southeasterly path will take you smack dab into Stonard. If you get too near it one or more level 65 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=866 Stonard Grunt (Bosses) will come out and attack and you'll be quickly dead. Again if you attempt to fight them, you'll be flagged for PVP (and dead). As soon as you spy it, detour to the northeast. The northeastern path leads into Fallow Sanctuary. which you'll also want to avoid as you'll get mobbed on your way through. So in either case you will be traveling off of the pathways and across country and likely agroing one battle after another with https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=767 Swamp Jaguars, and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=858 Sorrow Spinners in the jungle, and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1082 Sawtooth Crocolisks, https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1087 Snappers, and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=766 Tangled Horrors in the waterways. You may encounter the Pool of Tears in east central Swamp of Sorrows, which is generally quite safe to swim across the top, skirting the Temple of Atal' Hakkar in the center of the water. Once you reach the Misty Reed Strand, which forms the northeastern coast of the Swamp of Sorrows, be careful of the level 43 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1088 Monstrous Crawlers if you decide to attack them, as they can be problematic for lower level characters on this quest. So bottom line is if the quest is red or orange to you, tread very carefully when going this way. If it's green or gray to you, then it should be relatively easy to get across the area (and you probably already have the map filled in for this area, having been there before...).

Be advised that this quest is not altogether easy. It appeared yellow to me at 38 - though I wouldn't reccomend doing it then, without some friends. There are murlocs along the coast and we know how social they are.

86.54,17.08 are the coords for the roundabout area to get the right mobs.

It also may take some maneuvering depending, to get past the Sunken Temple mobs (level 45-46 dragonkin.) I suggest swimming around the murloc villages if possible, because the crocolisks are much less of a pain to deal with.

rather hard to get to the place where the things are but pretty easy after that. Most drop 2 so it goes quick, just stay away from the lvl 40-41 croclisks and you should be good. Solo lvl 40 warrior,

Getting 1 to 2 drops per kill on these spider legs every time. It's a good thing too, because this place is way out of the way.

Best idea is to swim out pretty far off the land so that the Marsh Inkspewer etc don't come after you...does get irritating after a while

Here's a link to a map of the region. It helps me, sometimes, to have the big picture - especially if I'm traveling in unfamiliar territory.

If you are below lvl37 most of the crabs will be red to you and tough to kill... and if the CRABS are tough think of what fighting the numerous gators (and dragonkin if you're getting the legs up north) is like.
In other words wait till you're 37-38.

I just finished this quest without going any further than the outskirts of Theramore. I found plenty of the https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=44390 Spiny Rock Crab on the little bit of land around the stone walls of Theramore. That's a lot easier than travelling in my opinion...

The questgiver and the mobs you need to kill are (now) properly displayed on the map above on this page.

Mobs seems to have a 100% droprate for the questitem, and as the map shows, they are located by the seashore right outside the keep. Lots of mobs there, so you don't have to move much to complete this one.

I'm posting this as all other comments seem to be outdated.
