For me this quest was tougher that it first appeared. At level 40 you can probably solo your way close to Colonel Kurzen, but to take him down you will need to deal with the Colonel himself (40 elite) and his two body guards (38) at the same time. So either go in with a party or brush up on your crowd control!

I did this on my 38fire mage. Was kinda easy just poly 1add kill the other and u got boss alone. He does a stun and teleport spell thing which is kinda anoying but otherwise just keep dps up and u nuke him ;P

Soloed with lvl41 fury warrior.
He only has 1 add. The another was pullable separately. Just wait until the add steps a bit away from Kurzen, then pull. (It was a ranged add for me, I ran out of LOS, then intercepted back)
I had a subchief added to the boss, it was not easy but doable. I DPSed the boss, then the add when the boss vanished (like Moroes in Karazhan, funny). After the add is down, use the vanishes to bandage up, probably int shout mr Kurzen to win some more time.

Kurzen is no longer elite but you will probably have to pull him with one Subchief. Watch out for those guys because their Flame Shock debuff really hurts! I killed the Subchief first, then Kurzen was easy. Level 40 feral druid.

To find Colonel Kurzen, keep to the right in the cave. You'll eventually get to a section of the cave where it forks. Continue straight/right for Kurzen. If you see Sergeant Malthus you went to the left instead and went the wrong way.

Of course this is an homage to Apocalypse Now, which is an homage to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Nice to see that Blizz reads classic lit.

Very simple as a level 38 Combat Rogue. (Sephirogue)(BlackDragon Flight)
Stealth in until you reach the Elites.
Kill them.
Stealth to the Subchiefs.
Kill them. (Pain in the rear for me) Just un-auto attack when they cast their defense spell
Stealth to Kurzen and go BEHIND him.
Sap the shadowhunter (or whatever add is on his right [ when standing behind him ])
Attack the hell out of Kurzen. Loot him.
Vanish and get out.

Died once because I didn't know what to do with the subchiefs :)

Soloed as a lvl 40 Tankadin (Prot Spec-ed Pally)

I agree that this quest IS a royal pain in the butt, especially if you're soloing it. The mobs respawn quickly and you will find yourself being flanked at least 3 or 4 times. To make it go a little quicker and a little easier, bring a friend if you wish.

As a paladin, use Seal of Justice > Judgement to your advantage when their health gets low so they can't flee. They aggro from a pretty knarly distance even being 2 levels above the Subchiefs.

Once you get to Kurzen himself, hit him with all you got and loot him as soon as he falls. He will stealth and stun at about 30% health. Once he falls and you loot him, deal with the rest of the adds to your liking, and if you die, well, enjoy the quick way back to the cemetary without having to battle your way out. For the lucky ones, hearth unless you really have the patience to battle your way back out of that fricken cave...good luck!

I soloed as a lvl 37 Shaman, I pulled the far left guard first, killed him. Then I pulled Kurzen and his one guard, I dropped a Stoneclaw totem, Searing totem, and a Healing Stream totem. Killed Kurzen, then the guard. So completing the quest is not to hard, the hard part is getting in and out. The mobs respawn quick, you will kill a bunch getting to Kurzen, then kill a bunch to get out. You will be happy to see the light of day by the end of this quest.

Just did this last night in group of two, 33 druid and 40 mage. Trip down was easy and got Kurzen's head quickly. Then all hell broke loose as we tried to leave. Respawn was so fast and there were three times as many Kurzen as when we went down and they were all lvl38-39. We both died multiple times and almost gave up. our armour was shot by the time we finally crawled to the surface. Does this always happen to everyone?

Solo'd as a 35 BM Hunter with Gorilladin pet.

Got to him pretty quickly; just pulled everything in groups of 2-3 and nuked down asap.

Then moved onto kurzen fast, killed all but 2 of his guards, one archer one melee.

I proceded to use Aspect of the Hawk and Rapid Fire to down him asap.
Had to feign once and I used a Frost Trap to slow everything whilst using Disengage to keep myself safe. Once he was dead the other two were easy.

I didn't even try getting back out due to the fact that they had all respawned in under a minute.
I just hearthed.

Hope this helps somebody.

Gurnek.

Solo'ed as lvl 37 frost mage. I've always hated the Kurzen quests, and this one in peticular. Taken 8 toons through STV now, and only ever finished this questline on 2 or 3 of them.

MAKE SURE YOU DO THE QUEST ""Bookie Herod's Records"" at the same time, unless you enjoy kill all these guys so much you want to come back.

The first section with the rogues and headshrinkers is easy. Able to kill the rogues before they throw their smoke bomb, and the headshrinkers can be interrupted, and if they do throw their shrinking curse, then mages and druids can dispell it too.

The next section is a bit tougher. The witch doctors put down searing totems, which kind of hurt, but back up enough and you can get out of range fairly easy, other than that they're no challenge. The Kurzen Elite do a whirlwind, for a frost mage it's mostly a matter of backing up. In the second section, there is one or two witch doctors that path through. At the bottom of the second section where the chest for the other quest is, there is a subchief that path through.

The third section has the subchiefs and shadow hunters. The subchiefs has incredible long aggro range (to the point where you want to take a couple of Blizz's programmers and throw them off a tall building), and at the beginning of their section there's 3 of them way too close together, as well as 2 pathing through. I have yet to do this quest and be able to get through that part without me or someone else dying atleast once.
Shadow hunters mainly stay at a distance and shoot you with bow and arrow, which is nice for casters. They have greatly reduced the amount of them that's in the room. There used to be 4-5-6 at times, now there's only 2.
The subchief will cast Flame Shock (like a shaman) which hurts a bit, but otherwise they hit like a girl. Only problem is when you get 3 at a time and they all cast flame shock, clothies run out of HP really fast.

Coming up to Kurzen, there's usually 2 subchiefs next to each other, and then one or two more before Kurzen himself. He normally has another subchief with him that cannot be seperated.

My trick to the whole run through the cave was basically sheep one, kill another, then kill the sheep. Then drink and eat and go for the next. I try to avoid using the mana shield because this place easily gets out of hand fast, and it's better to have mana left for frost nova and blink, rather than have the mana shield drain your mana when things go wrong, and you die because you can't escape. I still died twice getting into the third section, but like I said, I have never been with a level appropriate group where that don't happen.

At the end, I sheeped Kurzen's friend, and focused on getting Kurzen down first. He does a stun thing (variation of gouge) and vanishes like a rogue, but he doesn't walk very far away before the stun wears off, so it shouldn't be a problem for most. Once he's down the remaining add is easy.

Do note that throughout this entire cave you have to move as fast as entirely possible. This is NOT the place to go AFK. These mobs respawn very fast, typically by the time you get to the end of a section, the first ones you killed are already back up. Personally, once I got to the end and got Kurzen down, instead of going all the way back and kill everything again, I simply teleported to Stormwind and flew back to the rebel camp.

Make sure you follow the wall on the right all the way to the stacks of boxes. Behind the rocks at the end is the tough part, and just stay left there and you'll get to Kurzen. The very bottom section of the cave there is, AFAIK no quest for, but it does have some mining opportunities, and lots more mobs than the rest of the cave, usually.

i pulled things off with a lvl 38 hunter but i recruited the help of a paladin. Colonel Kurzen himself isnt hard to kill; his stats are more like lvl 37. its the gang-ups. the guys in the cave are really high density. multiple times i ended up fighting 3 of them at once. if your careful you could probably do it solo.

These would be my recomendations:
- RANGED ATTACKS!
- For hunters: put pets on passive until the guys are in melee combat with you
- make sure you have at least 2 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=1710 [Greater Healing Potion] or a good heal spell
- up-to-date weapons and armor

If Kurzen was so shrewd why didn't he march his 100+ man army (think about all the mobs in those caves and outside) and just slaughter the Rebel Camp?

I solo'd this on my lvl 36 shadow priest. The only way I survived was shielding myself, buffing myself a ton before hand, and only fighting the Colonel and his subchief (not the shadow hunter)

There IS a way to only have to combat Colonel Kurzen and ONE of his friends, not both of them. If you stand just inside the entrance to his room, and pull from a distance on the right side (furthest from Shadow Hunter) you won't aggro the shadow hunter, only Kurzen and his subchiefs.

Of course, you have to make sure you've picked off everyone else outside the entrance.

Also, Kurzen runs at low health (as does everyone else in the cave) so if you're a shadow priest, have plenty of dots on everyone and either mind flay or wand them to death when they run!

Just soloed it as a level 32 Prot Warrior ^^ Hella fun.

Had to use every cooldown (Shield Block, Shield Wall, Last Stand), and used Berserker Rage each time it was available. I'm pretty sure I also used a potion. After he died 2 Subchiefs spawned back and then a 3rd. Managed to stay alive using Intimidating Shout followed by a bandage, not to mention spamming Shield Block every 40 seconds.

Good luck ^^

As a 32 feral druid this was actually easy to solo, just pick the mobs with FF (they very rarely chain more mobs), move away from the subchiefts have their https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=3260 https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=3260 active.
For the boss, apply thorns, rejuv and start as cat burn him FAST pop everything, (he stunned me for 2 seconds, at that point the 2 mobs that were there got me to half hp, then you shift to bear and pray he dies before you do (he was red level for me, so you can imagine how many attacks got parried, dodged, etc) ; if you die, simple walk back to corpse the mobs have slow re-spawn
