Kurzen's Mystery

Find the 4 tablets and bring their legends back to Brother Nimetz.
The First Troll Legend
The Second Troll Legend
The Third Troll Legend
The Fourth Troll Legend

Description

Colonel Kurzen was once a great, noble man - I must find what caused his fall into depravity! He may be under the sway of troll magic. To confirm this, I must study some of their legends.

There are 4 tablets hidden within the troll ruins of Stranglethorn. I must see what is written on these tablets! Transcribe their markings and bring the transcriptions back to me.

The first tablet is in the Bal'lal Ruins, the second is in the Vile Reef, and the third and fourth are in the Ruins of Zul'Kunda.

Progress

<name>! Do you have the troll legends? I must know their secrets!

Completion

Thank you, <name>. I will study these legends to see if there is some link between the trolls and the evil that has possessed Colonel Kurzen.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 355 experience (21 30 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Stormwind

You can solo all of these if you're careful. I did it on my lvl 37 warrior.

The first two are easily done. With some thought you won't have any trouble at all.

The third one is the hardest to solo in my opinion. There are a lot of closely packed mobs around it (it's at the soutwest corner of the Zul'Kunda ruins, btw). Approaching from the south I was able to clear a path to the legend with some delicate pulls. Just take your time and don't be afraid to run off if you aggro too many mobs.

#4 can be gotten pretty easily if you know where to sneak. As you go into the Zul'kunda ruins from the east, go up the big hill to the right of the main entrance. Follow that hill north until it gets close enough to let you jump onto (not over) the outer wall. Hop on that wall and follow it all the way north. Then follow the wall west to the upper level of the waterfall. To your left you should see the legend. Pull the mobs closest to it carefull and you'll get it no problem.

The first troll legend can be picked through the wall, so you don't have to clear all those trolls.

For Fourth Legend - 24, 8 go in front of the main entrace, you will see a big wall on the right...go near it and walk all the wait (from the outside) till you reach the mountains, using them jump up the wall, then continue to walk onto a small ledge and u reach a pool...on your left you can see the stone and only one 1 mob needed to be killed with this way!

3rd is the hardest by far as a solo, easy to clear the area around the stone, but the 3 guarding it (mystic lvl35+ and 2 hunters lv35+) are a pain as they agro together, Also clear outside the walls of the compound, once you agro the group of 3, any patrollers outside fire in *through* the walls, nasty.

When your clearing the area around number three, it helps to keep in mind that they Casters don't seem to need to be in Line of Site to hit you. I some were shooting through the walls. Nuking you through the hill side isn't past them either.

Any priest who tries to solo this is suicidal. Yes, you can use Psychic Scream, but that only fears a certain number of enemies, and especially to get the 3rd tablet, it is almost impossible without dying a handful of times first. Bring a friend!

If you don't have addons like me, finding the second tablet is hard unless you know where to look. Its right next to the alter for The Curse of The Tides quest. You can easily swim down from behind the wall and get the mystery without aggroing a single murloc.

I just did this quest with my lvl 37 draenei shadowpriest. The first and second tablets are easy as hell. Just a few mobs to take care of, and in the second you don't have to fight at all.

At the third tablet there were lvl 33-35 mobs guarding, I used mind control to great success, mind control a caster and let him be beat to death, then taking on 2 melee mobs at a time is not hard.

The fourth tablet is more complicated. I brought a 33 shammy from my guild and we actually wiped once because adds ran up from the lower level. Anyways, the 37 mobs were no prob 2 at a time, just Vampiric Embrace, shield and Facemelt ;)

You do have to fight to get the fourth tablet, it is guarded by 4-5 mobs.

This quest is actually soloable but as a under geared priest I found it faster to get help :) good luck, and stuff ^^

Hey all, I just ran this with a 41 Pally. I found a neat trick. You go tothe NE side of the ruins, outside the ruins, near the miners on the hill. from here, you can jump onto the wall, then run west on a little ledge and access the 4th tablet by crossing the water. Your little ledge has run out by this time anyway. I had to kill one troll for this. Then, run along the southern edge of the pool unitl you get even wth the troll king fellow. Watch for the patrols and you can cross over (continuing west) to the next wall, then run south along it. Note: There was a spawn of purple lotus in this area that I was able to grab as well. When the wall ends, jump down to the ledge then run back east. there will be patrols going east/west below you. Time it right, then jump down, run across the top of one wall then around the corner of the next and you will be just east of the area where the 3rd tablet is. I had to kill 4 here. Pretty nifty. Good luck.

I've done this as a sham/warr/hunt and lvl36 priest. This quest is excellent for tailors (tons of silk) and players wanting to farm xp without feeling like grinders. Just a few things I wanted to add in response:
  1. [29,19] On pvp servers the 1st Legend can be hardest to solo. There are 4 horde quests that take place within sight of the ruins and at peak times I've seen 8+ 35-40 players there. The other Legends can be as bad, but the density of mobs makes it far more dangerous for anyone wanting to mess with you around the others.
  2. [25, 23] The 2nd Legend is no longer difficult. Pre-2.3 the murloc's guarding it were elites with an infamous ""Patroller"" who 3 shotted anyone with crappy luck. You don't go in there at all if you've read the notes above.
  3. [22, 13] Anyone with CC or a decent survivability ratio (Warrs/Shams/Pallies in particular) can solo the 3rd. Priests can solo this without any trouble even in lower greens. The 3 guards on the third tablet are a random combination (possibly changed in a late patch from the 1 caster/2 melee I remember) but MCSapSheepTrap is applicable to all. In fact, a word; CC away one of the casters first no matter what the combo. Their heals are 500+ and difficult to interrupt in a 3 on 1 especially if there are multiple casters. There is a patroller who wonders in there, more often than not a Scout.
  4. [24, 8] The 4th Legend is on the highest plateu of the temple (East from the inner road). People don't always get that from the coords. The 36-37 trolls have a pretty good loot table for humanoids, low-ish dps, great xp and respawn so quick you never run out. Good farming local if you've got no where special to be pre-40.

The basic idea of this quest is simple: Go to various ruins filled with baddies and interact with a stone tabled in each - usually surrounded by several mobs at once. Good things to have: Superior Healing Potion, Elixir of Water Breathing (superior or lesser- any will do).

1st Tablet - From Nessingwary's Expidition camp, head Southwest towards Kal'ai ruins. Bypass this on the right side by climbing over a few foothills. Continue going Southwest until you find Bal'lal Ruins. Inside the Ruins there is a campfire surrounded by 9-10 mobs. And in there is the stone tablet you have to interact with. Kill the mobs (expect to fight 2 at once) until they are dead and then click the tablet. This is pretty much waht you will be doing for the all the rest of the tablets you have to interact with.

2nd Tablet
- After you've gotten the first tablet, go immediately southwest from Bal'lal Ruins and into the sea. This one is a pain because the tablet is in ruins that are underwater - about midway between the island and the shoreline of the mainland. If you are a melee - that underwater breathing potion would come in handy here since the ruins are very deep. Once you get to the location, look down and see the ruins beneath you. They are inhabited by level 35-37 elite Murlocks. They are relatively close to the tablet so you may want to bring a friend for this. If you have a pet though, just send it in to draw aggro while you get to the tablet.

3rd Tablet - Go back to the Bal'lal Ruins and go past it on the north side via a narrow grassy path. At the first opportunity head north and up a plateau. You will see Raptors here. Head west until you find the Zal'kunda Ruins. Do not enter the ruins, but climb the rocky hills along its southern side and head west (staying on the hills). As you head west you will pass 2 enclosures of ruins on the right. The 3rd and last ruin enclosure you come to is where the 3rd tablet is - at the backside. Kill the mobs and get the tablet.

4th Tablet
- This is the hardest of all them because the mobs are 1-2 levels higher and the tablet is located at the top of the main Ruins. From 3rd tablet location, look for the north wall and follow it east. If you're below 40, expect to fight along the way. When you get to the end of the wall turn left and follow the paved road back west again - this time into the main ruins. Fight your way to the nearby ramp on the northside of the road. Climb the ramp and fight your way up. The tablet is surrounded again by many mobs. Kill them and you got the tablet.

And that's basically it, now return the quest at the camp.

Firstly i am a lvl 38 rouge sublety talent.
I found it easy as a rouge because rouges are designed for annoying mob quests like this one so what i did for tablet 3 was i got right behind the tablet stealthing ofcourse go as far back as the can against the wall behind you and click on the tablet this will make the guards run in but then you quikly select the scroll from the pop up box that comes up and then use vanish and stealth out of there easy!

I can't find the any of the tablets...I found ""where"" they ""are""...but the tablet isn't showing up. I've run around the outside &amp; inside. I have killed them all many times...where IS IT? I'm extremely frustrated because everyone else seems to be able to find it so easily. What am I missing? I also have gone to the one on the beach &amp; I cannot locate the tablet. I've been inside &amp; out of the ruins with absolutely nothing to find. PLEASES HELP ME as I'm about to abandon this quest forever because it's NOT worth ALL of the frustration!

Way to easy as a lvl 37 Elemental Shammy.

I was making my way to the 4th Tablet (on the side of the walls) When I suddenly got aggro from a few mobs down below that came after me. I had about 10 trolls on me and they kept coming. What you do is put down your totems (Stoneskin, Magma, Mana Spring &amp; Grounding Totem) when all mobs are near you do Fire Nova and put Water Shield (every time it wears off as well) on and start healing yourself, your Magma Totem will take care of the mobs for you so you don't need to run away from all the mobs. Also redo the Fire Nova a few times and reput your magma totem &amp; grounding totem otherwise you'll simply die. Also got the choice to do a chain lightning inbetween but it's tricky because your health will drain fast.

The tablets near trolls are best done like this, the second tablet near the murlocs is taken without a fight if you take the tablet that stands right outside of the ruins and not the one within the walls of the ruins since there are 2 (or more).
