Should you fail to capture a Rabid Thistle Bear and lose your trap, return to Tharnariun Treetender and request another trap.

Description

A sickness spreads across the Darkshore, gripping the minds and bodies of all it touches.

The Thistle Bears have been hit the hardest by this plague. The once noble beasts are now an instrument of destruction - rabid and frenzied. I may have a cure for this ailment.

Take this trap to the forest and lay it on the ground. Any Rabid Thistle Bear that crosses the light shall become docile for a short time. Once the bear is docile, it shall follow you. Lead it back here, <name>.

You can find Rabid Thistle Bears at 39,58.

The Rabid Thistle Bear will move faster than 100% run speed, however, a full length sprint (or other such speed ability) will cause the bear to disappear.

The quest reads, ""Should you fail to capture a Rabid Thistle Bear and lose your trap, return to Tharnariun Treetender and request another trap."", but I found that, in the reading, ""Should you fail to capture"" means that losing the bear once you have captured it will not fail your quest and you may turn it in without the presence of the bear.

I hope this will prevent someone who had planned on using their Hearthstone from running all the way back to town.

For those without coords, https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=2164 Rabid Thistle Bears are pretty much everywhere except the north tip, the south tip, and the middle area around Auberdine of the zone.

Err, okey ive seem to have come across a bug in this guest. I picked up the bear, then HS'ed back to Auberdine. I noticed that the bear wasnt with me, but i still could turn in the quest, so I did. Then after a min or so I saw the bear come running and started to follow me.. So even tho the quest was turned in and compleated, the bear kept on following.
I frapsed this, showing that the quest is turned in, rewarded and all, and Im clearly a rouge :P not a hunter.

edit: Sadly it despawned on me while writing this, so the ""trap"" thing is on a hidden timer i suppose

It is easy to lose this item in your packs. It's a bear trap but looks like a fish lure - a shiny pink ball.

I had the orb on my action bar. When I found a Rabid Thistle Bear I clicked on the orb and then clicked on the bear. That worked.

Sprint will not lose the bear...Also you shouldn't have to hearth, if you just run, you will be fine. (I don't believe in wasting hearths)

- NO TRAP - I have dropped and picked up this quest 4 times. Treetender never gives me a trap. Any ideas?

I have the same problems as wica93 and kolci. Theres no way, i cant complete this quest.

And I WAS TRYING TO CAPTURE A RABID THISTLE BEAR, no other kind.

You drop the trap, aggro the bear, and make it walk over it. There's two types of bears in the region, the gray one is the Rabid Thisle Bear, the Thistle Bear is brown.

Ok.. lets try to put everything into one happy post.

First of all, the quest is very easy. If you are failing at it, you are not doing something right.

When you take the qeust, you get the trap. Its a round pink ball. Next.. the bear you need to target is GREY. It says Rabid Thistle Bear. If you are trying to target a brown bear, you will fail.

Next, you don't need to do any damage to the bear at all. Once you see one, get close enough to the bear to aggro it. As it is running at you, use your trap. It puts a pinkish light on the ground. Make sure the bear goes into the light. Once it does, your qeust is complete, and the bear turns friendly; i.e. green.

At this point, I'm not sure about anything else, but hearthing back to Auberdine (its a long walk back, or you were targeting the wrong bear; if you were close to Auberdine, you were not in the right area to find the right bear) is just fine. As stated, the quest is complete.

Guys, I am so sorry to bother you, even after all of you posted such helpful comments. It's just, I tried every possible way to capture the Rabid Thistle Bear but none of them seem to work. I tried planting the trap and then aggravating the bear to walk over it and get trapped - but that didn't work. I tried letting the bear attack me and then place the trap on it while it was attacking me - but that didn't work too. I even tried making a few other Rabid Thistle Bears to run over and, hopefully, fall for my trap. But that didn't work either!

I really need to know what I'm doing wrong. I have Tharnariun's Hope, and I'm trying to capture the right bear (Rabid Thistle Bear - the grey one). I really want to complete this quest, but this unnecessary nuisance is causing me a great deal of trouble.
